  1. jar jar is the one who should be disappointed!
  2. I like ERA's in even numbers, decimal points frighten me. A thought just occurred to me! If you moved him from Cleveland to Toronto, would his ERA go up or down? I think in Toronto the stats are metric!
  3. . Which begs me to ask, just exactly how much influence does the manager get on the 25 man roster? I thought it was time for Gardy to change teams, but I am pretty sure that the last few years of this fiasco was not all his fault. I hope Molitor has enough influence to push for rapid replacements in the event they are needed.
  4. There are an awful lot of "ifs", instead of "shoulds" involved for the Twins to not finish last. But if you put both words in the same sentence it could be this: IF the Twins players who had career years have another career year, the team SHOULD finish above last place. While that sentence can be picked apart, or perish the thought even critiscised, the following cannot. It saddens me to see that the criteria for a successful Twins season has been reduced to finishing anywhere out of last place!
  5. I have found most of the discourse on TD civil as a rule. To see negative and disrespect, Dante is right, you have to visit the comments section of the Trib. As for the somewhat repetitive bashing of the FO, I think most of that comes from a combination of frustration with the 4 previous years, and the apparent bright future just over the horizon. Baseball is no different than any other topic that is openly discussed in the 24 hr media. It's just so much easier to say, "I would not have done that" than it is to present a cohesive idea that takes into account all the little irritating and mitigating factors that are so easy to ignore. Add hindsight to that, and what do you get? The perfect FO!
  6. . On second thought, that would not be fair. You have to give the Twins a chance!
  7. I would never be so rude as to question your projection! Whoops, there I go again, yet another non question!
  8. Think of the pressure of being the opposing pitcher who started game 162 against theTwins? What an atmosphere. The stands packed, Dick and Bert explaining that it's just a matter of time until the boys break out of their slump. And of course the requisite questions about whether Molly will return, the assurances that the Pohlads have pledged to spend whatever is necessary to improve the team next year, and the belief that if anyone can do it, it's the Twins FO! Sids column will bemoan the fact that the team suffered from a lot of bad luck this year, up to and including not one game rained out and not rescheduled. While the teams ERA stands at a league low of 6.14, we will be assured that these are veteran pitchers who know what it will take in the off season to get things back on track! While there were still some random murmurs amongst fans wondering if and when the team was going to promote Buxton, Sano, Meyer, Berrios, and May, most fans stood firmly by the team, confident that with a few more years experience the current roster would make a playoff run in the very near future!
  9. . Is Minour League Hockey only played in Quebec? :).
  10. . No bashing, no defending, and no specific opinion stated here, but I have noticed that the FO and its decisions this year seem to bring about vigorous and "impassioned" discussion!
  11. Sox fans thinking we are the worst?? What about Twins fans?
  12. . My wife did that also! She sent me an email that said, "you are so stupid". I replied, "HUH"? And she told me she was thinking "sweet" and typed "stupid" by mistake! . .
  13. Yet another sign that ST games do really count!
  14. . Believe me I thought about that, or this! An All Star team off of the above two rosters vs the team going north.
  15. I never had much luck with filling inside straights, but let's say you are right. If the Twins get on a roll and a pace for 85 wins, several things will happen. The normal glacial pace of change by the FO will slow even more. Not wanting to disrupt a new winning atmosphere the roster will stay as is. The story line will be all about the race for the wild card, or so the story will go. And the Twins would/could/maybe/might end up in third place? Is that what is best for the orginisation going forward? This roster will struggle to make .500. If it doesn't and gets blown up it still won't make .500. But it will be laying the groundwork for the future. And there should not be one decision that this team makes, that does not look to that future!
  16. So what would happen if you took the pitching staff from Rochester, and the position players from Chatanooga, and played the Twins best of 5 straight up?
  17. To me, your last sentence sums up my frustration and aggravation with the Twins decision makers. Potential upside does not appear to be a factor in their thinking at all.
  18. Crunching numbers aside, the Twins made it clear that the 5th spot was an open competition. They made that point publicly right up until the bitter end. And there has been nothing said or hinted that the players were told something else. Frankly I would have moved Pelf to the pen right away. But they did not. And they did not take the best of the bunch north as the 5th guy either. Maybe Milone will pitch well enough to be traded, and Pelfrey will be a success in the pen, and May and Meyer will marinate some more in Rochester. But if you are going to sell these guys on a straight competition, then don't expect smiley faces when you change the rules at the end of the game!
  19. Thats just not true! Let's see, we have a different SS, and we made a major improvement in RF, and we added a veteran hurler, and we, and we, uh, well let me see? We ah, er, ah! Ok, enough sarcasm. In reality we have basically 7 of the 8 position players from last years underwhelming team, and if you count Milone pitching last year, 4 of the 5 starters from last years bottom of the league staff. What could possibly go wrong. What's that sayimg? "Stupidity is doing the same thing over And over and expecting different results"
  20. . This kind of make you wonder whether there was a battle for the 5th spot? It seems that May and Milone were both about even going into the last game, and both were less than impressive. So as per usual we go with the less talented player, with the least upside? Nothing like matching an extremely low strikeout pitcher, with one of the worst outfields in the game.
  21. Nice article. It's good to read about guys who play just for the fun of it. True they get paid, but it normally would not be enough to make up for the travel and uncertainties. It's the game itself that is the real compensation. I would guarantee that Brock is a guy who will not look back on his life when he gets older and regret his decisions. Did he mention any thoughts on later baseball activities such as coaching, scouting, or heaven forbid umpiring?
  22. . You forgot to mention that detective has alcohol and other issues, and still would not be interested in that trade.
  23. Fangled! Tangled is what happens when I try to play g in my IPad.
  24. . This bursts my bubble Chief! I thought you were conversing via very fast Pony Express riders, or maybe even that new tangled teleegraph!
  25. . I was not at all excited to see the Twins are looking to the waiver wire, and trade wire for bullpen staff. I don't see anything that is good coming from that idea. As for trades, who would we trade? A Jake Reed for a nice 32 year old who regularly gets it up to 91?
