  1. Poe took English, I am not sure I can say that about Sid!
  2. We did the same thing, saw that sign that said 3 miles, and could not resist. I thought the one building was a bar, or a barn, in Texas it's hard to tell the difference. Without going to the Google, it seems to me that it was near the LBJ ranch? Btw, I did not see Waylon, Willy, or even any boys!
  3. The Santana/Escobar debate rages on! I think it boils down to a relatively simple decision. Do you want to win a couple more games, maybe, this year? Or take a chance on being better in the future? Escobar likely gives you a win or two this year, but will eventually impede your upside. Santana gives you a chance for that upside. A chance, not a guarantee. I don't care if the Twins win 71 games, or 73 games. I just want to see something looking forward. One of the few forward thinking decisions the team has made this year is to play Santana and see what they have, or do not have. I think that's a wise choice.
  4. You might have spoken a tad too soon! http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_28038242/torii-hunters-twitter-defense-floyd-mayweather-draws-fire?source=hottopics
  5. Suzuki was described in the Trib, by I think LE3 as the Twins emotional leader, or something to that extent after he got whacked by Oswaldos foul ball. Now a snarky commentator would mention that he thought that position was Torii's, but since I am not snarky I would never do that. Kurt sees to be viewed as having a value behind the plate above and beyond his numbers. Combine that with their well earned reputation of not sitting a veteran without his permission, means Pinto would have to be the second coming of a younger Mauer to move him out of there this year, or sadly next year also.
  6. The second part of your post might touch on one of the reasons the Hunter signing is disliked by many. He is the (current) poster child for TR's habitual signing of over the hill former Twins. And frankly, it does not help that he is being force fed to us by the broadcasters, who fawn over him like he's going to lead the Twins to the promised land. Well maybe the promised land, but doubtfully the playoffs.
  7. I too concur to your concur. He can be a decent 1 or 2 hitter. But to do that I do think he needs to change his approach. He's really not a natural power guy.
  8. His hitting will ebb and flow depending on pitchers trying to sneak pitches past him inside, or making a mistake there. He sells out totally to pull for power. It was a disservice to put him in the 4 hole. It reinforced his thinking that he is a power guy. I'm not saying he can't or won't adjust his approach, but until he does, what you see, is what you get.
  9. So is everyone, but between injuries, and front office bungling, that's what we are doing. KC struggled more than just one or two years to get going. Guys like Morneau, Plouffe, and even the venerated Hunter took more than 4 weeks to get to where they are. Hunter and Cuddyer never really did overcome a fondness for outside sliders in high leverage AB's. Stocking stuffers like Boyer, Stauffer, Duensing, Nolasco, Thielbar, ad nauseu will guan aged mediocrity far past this year. The Twins bring up prospects at a glacial pace. As long as TR keeps rolling with the safe choice veterans, everyone better relax, it's gonna be awhile.
  10. Escobar at short is like Santana in CF. Neither are the future at those positions. Santana will not be an elite defender in CF with or without Buxton. But "could" be at SS. That doesn't mean he will be. Escobar is a decent fielder but doesn't have elite tools, in either the IF or OF. This is the time to roll the dice on Santana. Putting Escobar back ther is short sighted, and falls into the delusional contender trap. A side note on errors. Santana got an error the other night on a difficult shot to his left, and Plouffe almost got hit on the head with a pop up and they gave the guy a hit. Until they insulate the official scorers, this will continue to happen.
  11. giving it all she's got captain, but we need more lithium crystals!
  12. Watching Mauer spray baseballs all over America in the promo during his AB. When will they do one our our outfield defense?? .
  13. I still think using the Special Olympics was in poor taste, and I admittedly have a sophomoric sense of humor! I agree with the fact Milone is not exactly a quality MLB pitcher.
  14. I think a better analogy is definitely in order!!
  15. well that cinches it. I will no longer rely on Danno for game descriptions. He and Corey rambled on about Oswaldo not getting over there. Although over the years I should have noticed that a Dandy Dan was a perfect player, and expected everyone to play to his own recollection of his past!
  16. It seems engrained into MLB pitchers they don't catch pop ups. Fien was correct not to catch hit, odd as it sounds it only would have added confusion. Someone would have just ran over him. If Plouffe was looking into the sun, struggling to track the ball, and hit the mound incline all at once, yah that's an easy one to miss. Maybe the right side guys shoulda caught it facing away from the sun, but radio guys said Plouffie called it all the way. Stuff happens. As to the thread, yah it's a lousy outfield!
  17. I am an Arcia fan, and never argue with the The Chief, but one thing I heard was that Oswaldo was standing flat footed when that ball got away from Shafer, and rolled his way. He should have been moving to backup already. Which also begs these two questions: Why did Oswaldo think Shafer was going to catch the ball? And do you have to capitalize the "t" in "the" before the word Chief?
  18. If I can't trust Corey and Danno, who can I trust??
  19. A thought on Pinto. He is not a good defensive catcher. But he can hit. And he would not be replacing or taking games from Johnny Bench. Kurt's ball blocking ability has not been there this year, he has had some big passed balls, and it's April 29th, and he has started the majority of the games, and still does not have a caught stealing. Maybe I am missing something. And maybe there is something more to the Perkins thing. Perk pitches maybe less than 5% of the innings the Twins play, and he sets the tone for catchers??
  20. according to the Cory and Danno no Twin catcher had a throw out this year????
  21. So much of this conjecture would be clearer if one knew if the Twins viewed themselves as contender possible, or strictly rebuild? So far they appear to be in the delusional contender (DC) bracket. Meaning they go the veteran route. May to Rochester, and Ricky to the rotation. But in the DC mode Pelf should go to the pen, Milone May and Ricky to the rotation, and you pick em to Rochester. I don't really like Milone, but the current Pelfrey is a apparation, and will soon vanish. In the rebuild mode, Milone goes to the pen, a pen guy goes to Rochester, and you allow Pelf and Ricky to hopefully build a resume for trade bait. And if they do, pull the pin sooner than later. On a side note, it's a sign of the level of mediocrity of this team, that there is angst over the removal of a SP on yet again one of the worst staffs in MLB.
  22. That is a very good point. Does anyone know why he was pulled after 68 pitches? The hits and runs are a problem. Or the walks are a problem. But it looks like either or. Unless a unforeseen miracle happens, he does not look like a corner hitting type pitcher. I would imagine by now his head is spinning and he has lost any confidence he ever had. Sometimes players are not good matches for an orginisation. This might be one. The Twins are a control pitcher oriented operation, and he isn't that type of pitcher. This could turn into an ongoing saga. You can draft big arms, but if you don't allow for the different style of pitching that entails, it will not be a successful transition from the control type mantra that was the preferred style in the past.
