  1. It had to be a parochial school? Lol. Sometimes we got it on the navicular bone with a wooden ruler.
  2. In grade school, no detention. Just recess revoked. No idle time, we had to do math cards, showing our work. There was a key in the cards the teacher could use to check the cards at a glance. While we never figured it out, a friend of mine did so many, that he kept a list of the answers, as the cards were numbered. We stil had to show the math, but we didn't have to worry about correcting the mistakes!
  3. I love that over rice. Once, when visiting a Kraft plant, eating in their cafeteria, I had the hamburger gravy over rice. The guy sitting next to me said, "I see you're having the Gravy Train". It was never the same after that!
  4. I do the same think when my wife has me cornered! I try and change the topic. And like me, I imagine this will also fail miserably!
  5. As you are well aware, I am not. And while I would need to dig out the Webster for a complete definition, I think 'obtuse' can be stretched to include willful avoidance of the facts!
  6. I spend almost all winter in shorts. In MN. My standard reply to people who question my sanity: "when is the last known instance of hypothermia in the Wal Mart parking lots?"
  7. some of the preceding comments remind me of Andy DeFrane (sp) I cannot remember the exact quote, but in the Shawshank Redemption, Andy got 30 days in the hole for suggesting to the warden that he was being (intentionally) obtuse! .
  8. . I don't know about wsnydes but I was at the mall the other day, and not one person in yoga pants was exercising. Nor did I see one person in sweats. Hmm. That said I will acknowledge the comfort of my "Jammie's". But for the good of mankind, I don't leave the premises with them on!
  9. I was going through my dads old stuff the other day, and found report cards from some of my brothers. They all echoed the same thought as mine did, and of our children, to wit: (fill in name here) is such a nice child, we are so pleased to have her/him on our class. She/he is such a joy! While he/she is doing fine, I am sure with a little more effort she/he could improve her grades quite a bit! I always wondered why at parent teachers they just didn't hand out 3x5 cards with this message, it would have saved so much time, and I could have gotten into the cookies and coffee sooner!
  10. I always think that also. But there is a little nagging guy on my shoulder that keeps whispering in my ear. "What if they get the wrong guy, what then". .
  11. Whether we like it or not, some serious trades have to be made to upgrade the SP. trades that will hurt. It's either that, or another column next August just like this one.
  12. I personally do not, at least not by this administration. I think they are showing him though, but they won't pull the pin because like so many other players we have, he is completely overvalued. And a sacred cow! Or Hereford!
  13. How does Berrios FB strike % in MLB compare with his MiLB stats. Meaning is this an outlier, or SOP?
  14. While it's a well known fact that Plouffes second cousin was seen on the "grassy knoll", that is not the conspiracy we need to address today. This one is whether Plouffe is being shown, ala a Hereford at a Texas sales barn, at 1B. I tend to think this is the case. If they can show other clubs he can play the position, and I definitely think he can, maybe they can move him. I should add that this ain't all on Plouffe. His employers are the real problem!
  15. we try and watch this every Thanksgiving! We have an odd family?
  16. This is exactly why I wanted that Stratomatic post deleted! I knew it would make you crabby!
  17. So the Twins acquire a pitcher leading the league in walks, and having a nice, but non Cy Young year. He comes to the team that is more walk adverse than almost any in baseball, and miraculously walks no one in two games, but gets completely hammered since arriving. Yet another coincidence? Below is LEN3's report on Santiago after the game last night. My question, is if we detest walks to such an extent, why would we acquire a noted "walker"? And are we yet again trying to remake another player into our image and likeness? From LEN3: WHAT'S UP WITH SANTIAGO?: Who is this impostor wearing Hector Santiago's uniform? This is not the man who was 6-0 with a 1.78 ERA in June. On Saturday, Santiago grooved pitch after pitch to Royals hitters, making them feel good about themselves again. Apparently, Santiago has joined the Twins and has since decided to address the number of batters he's been walking. He was leading the league in walks at the time of the trade. He's altered his delivery with the goal of improving his command. It seems to have altered his mental approach as well. ``That aggressive mentality where I let it fly and kind attack the hitters, I have a little blockage in there right now where I'm trying to control the zone and make everything over the plate,'' he said. ``It's kind of put me in a spot where I'm worried about throwing more strikes and not worried about getting guys to chase or making some pitches where they have to come to me.'' This is interesting. On one hand, if you can't work on things during a losing season like this one, when can you? On the other hand, he was winning when he was walking guys. He's eligible for arbitration after the season, and wins equal $$$$$. I wonder how long he's willing to risk wins to figure out how to be successful without walking batters?
  18. Park being recalled at this time, would make me play the old song, "they're coming to take me away, ha ha" while running around my yard naked chasing butterfly's.
  19. . Is there anyway to delete that Stratomatic post before Chief sees it this morning. It's gonna ruin his whole Sunday! :)
  20. I got the perception that things French Canadien were in disfavor, or as he would say disfavour! Or it could have just been the Montreal Canadiens! It's hard to interpret askerists and stars.
  21. From short, and I might add, terse communications with North on the subject of things in Eastern parts of Canada, I am not sure our Canadian friend will concur!
  22. It would have to be viewed under a NSFW banner!
  23. Our pitching borders on horrific, but with some decent defense I do think it could be brought up to pathetic with a little luck?
  24. No! What Chief said was "you can't do math".
