    Almost every team that can't buy their way out of it goes through losing cycles. The Twins 4 losing seasons, one winning and another losing isn't that unusual.

    I just don't see that and those examples certainly don't help. Ortiz roided up in Boston 15 years ago. We can probably let that go. Liriano wasn't much different in Pitt - maybe slightly more consistent but didn't reach the same level he had in his best years in MN. Perkins became an all-star closer. Dozier was a nothing prospect that has turned into a 5 WAR player. Occasionally there has been some public criticism (although Molitor seems to do it more than Gardy did) but even that has been pretty mild. Every team has moments - Maddon called out Wil Myers, Torre pushed a lot of Soriano's buttons back in the day, Reds management questioned Votto, La Russa was famous for things like that too. But I don't see a lot to suggest that the Twins are turning players into pariahs. And the Twins have had a lot of different type of players at the same time. It's hard to remember since we're in an ugly period but the Twins had rotations full of completely different arms - Santana, Liriano, Radke, Silva, etc. They had small ball hitters but in 09 their 3-6 hitters avg 33 doubles and 30 HRs. They developed multiple MVPs and a Cy Young winner. Obviously, not every young guy worked out - that's normal - but they relied on them a ton and got pretty good success out of it. Part of this might just be the "Twins way" mythology that was never quite true and now it's used as a negative reference instead. In any event, the next GM will have to make some changes. I'm far more concerned with the ML changes than the development side.

    Yeah, this coaching staff is pretty bad. Hopefully the GM search shows Pohlad that Molitor is part of the problem.

    That's not really true. They've had long stretches of success based on relying on young players. But the new GM will (hopefully) consider all parts of the baseball side of things and make changes. Personally, I think the biggest issue is the ML coaching staff. They didn't seem to get much out of the young players but they also seemed to not help the vets. Nearly everyone had long periods where they were just absolutely lost - even guys with established track records. To me, that suggests that the ML coaching just wasn't there.

    I think those are two different things though - assuming you're alluding to the same chat I think you are. The development guys seem to get our prospects in a position to succeed but then the ML coaches seem to not finish the job. I have seen Klaw have pretty strong criticism of Molitor and his staff on that front.

It was a very liberal strip in the Reagan 80s which made me pretty happy.

    Molly needs to go. I think Steil is good. Not sure if Johnson should stay at his position but the new GM should do what he wants. If he keeps those guys, good. If not, good. Klaw posted (and I'm paraphrasing) that the Twins GM job would be a good one for most any GM. He thought the team had good young talent, good scouting and development people in place as well as a nice city. His biggest concern was the meddlesome of ownership (i.e. the Molitor thing).

    Slightly off topic but we saw the Peanuts Movie that came out last year. My kids loved it and thought it was actually pretty good. I have trouble watching kid cartoon movies but the Peanuts one held my interest. A very happy surprise. As for ranking them, I think it would go Bloom County (by a mile), Peanuts, Doonesbury, C&H, Arlo and Janis (those four are close).

    No, I wasn't implying it was time to give up on him. I'm surprised that many of the concerns/questions we had last year haven't been answered this year, even though he's pitching nicely in AA. I'm really interested in what the scouting reports and prospect gurus think of him this offseason. He also seems to remain healthy and pitching a lot of innings, which is nice.

    I really thought we'd figure out what Stewart is this year. To dominate AA he'd obviously have to improve his krate or he'd crash and burn but nope. Apparently, he's quite the ground ball machine. Still, he's very young for his league so there's time for the strike outs to come. The rest looks good.

    I'm really excited to see what his scouting reports are and how the prospect gurus rank him this offseason. The stat line is fantastic.

    Where did you get the 42 number from? I'm not a huge fan of WAR but both fangraphs and b-r have it around 60.

    There's more than just statline to look at but even that shows some things to work on. Kiriloff is walking in less than 2% of his at-bats. It's been 36 games and he's already in the higher rookie league. And he also has to adjust to the environment, stuff that doesn't show up on a stat sheet. Lastly, I could be wrong, but aren't their rules regarding what happens when you take a player out of the rookie leagues that say they can't be put back in?

    Good luck. He's certainly a great athlete so maybe he can do something but ...

    Why? The 2014 ballot was loaded - 21 players with 50 WAR, 15 with 60. 11 with 70. A voter could decide to leave an obvious guy - Maddux - off so he could vote for another guy. 3 of those 21 fell off the ballot that year. Or a voter could being doing a protest - much like they did with Pete Rose decades ago. Or maybe a voter has a real small HOF standard and thinks if Clemens isn't in the HOF, I won't vote for Maddux. If we want groupthink, that's fine. We can just vote in guys with 70 WAR every year and move on. But if we're going to have a system where individuals vote, you're going to have to accept a system where you aren't always going to be happy with those votes. Focusing on the few votes ignores that the BBWAA has, for the most part, done a good job of voting in players. The biggest issues have been by special HOF committees.

    Well, that's true. I thought Maddux was the most likely to get 100% but he fell (has to look it up), wow, 15 votes shy? Interesting bar trivia, Maddux, while not the highest percentage ever, has the most votes, ever - 555.

    Slightly off topic but what I'm waiting for is a year where one team manages to stockpile a few extra draft picks - by trades and lottery - and then just screws with the cap. Like the year the Rays had 10 picks in the top 60 (and blew most of them). They would need a bunch of picks - Atlanta had 5 in the top 80 and I think you'd want more and you'd need a great draft class year as well. This wouldn't have been the year but next year might. Make the agents know that this is the year to hold out for that 3m signing bonus. Nab all those falling guys after round 10. But if you could haul in 6 top 15 talents somehow and you only lose $ and two future picks, it could be worth it (esp if you think you'll be picking at the bottom). And then the internet will lose its mind.

    If it's anonymous, how is the voter making it about himself? Secondly, why do we care? A group of 500 or so people shouldn't have 100% agreement on anything. I have never understood the frustration people have toward this. Maddux, Big Unit, Griffey, Mays, Ruth, Aaron are all inner circle HOFers. Does anyone know or care how many votes they didn't get?
