  1. Yeah, I don't know enough about any of these guys to know who the right choice is. Reusse had the legit criticism of McLeod as not working with low payrolls before. As much as we fans dislike that, it's a realistic issue for the Twins as long as the Pohlad's own them.
  2. Wasn't trying to suggest that. I was just explaining why Correa took so much less - I think he signed for less than 4 other players drafted behind him. I agree that the Twins will save $ with the first pick and (hopefully) can spread that around in lower rounds.
  3. Gordon, Kiriloff, Rortvedt, Garver, Diaz and Blankenhorn?
  4. Correa went under slot b/c there were a lot of guys who could reasonably fall into the 3-6 spot and the Astros got one to agree to go way underslot. That was a pretty loaded draft though - Buxton, Appel, Correa, Zunino, Gausman, Zimmer, Russell and a hurt Giolito.
  5. Yeah, the Twins system if light on impact bats right now - Kiriloff being the lone exception. He and Gordon would be locks for top 10s. Maybe Blankenhorn sneaks in a few with the season he had. Maybe Javier or Rortvedt (who is in mlbpipeline's top 10) but pitching seems to be the strength right now, although they seem to have mostly 3/4 types over actually #1 types. (Which is common).
  6. That's horrible. Obviously, he was a great talent but to die at 24? He was just a kid. Prayers for him and his family.
  7. Nice ranking for Kiriloff, all things considered.
  8. It looks like the Angels are giving him all the chances he needs - Good for him and them.
  9. All things being equal, I'd go for the college ace.
  10. People get fired for saying stuff like that on facebook all the time, as well. Seattle was absolutely correct to suspend him. The union might contest it - the John Rocker suspension is probably what they'd look at.
  11. RTD seemed to have a better understanding of the Doctor and his story. Tennant's doctor always seemed to me to be a very smart alien. Slightly apart. Moffat's doctor is a really smart human and he seemed to want to retcon everything back to what it used to be. RTD also had better arcs although individual episodes could be clunky - although I think the best episodes of the Tennant years - Fires of pompeii, Midnight, Blink, Family of Blood - were better than anything in the Smith years. I gave up on the Capaldi Doctor after the Robin Hood episode had him shoot an arrow and hit a rocket ship.
  12. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/17619162/seattle-mariners-suspend-steve-clevenger-inappropriate-tweets Suspended for remainder of season without pay - roughly 34k.
  13. Oh, yeah. Definitely. But most are smart enough not to post muck like that.
  14. I don't know. I mean, yeah, that was bad but I think the 13 game losing streak a few weeks ago was the low point.
  15. He usually is. He has opinions, of course, but when he says X happened, he usually has some actual support for saying that.
  16. Yeah, it might have been something as simple as a young man who never had to worry about staying fit b/c of his talent level learning a lesson this season. Hopefully, he's good to go in April.
  17. http://www.lookoutlanding.com/2016/9/22/13023742/steve-clevenger-tweeted-like-an-idiot As a general rule, players as bad as Clevenger shouldn't attract attention to themselves for off the field stupidity but he did. From the article, "backup catcher Steve Clevenger, who is by most accounts a bad baseball player, who was already arguably Jerry Dipoto’s worst trade prior to using Twitter to say breathtakingly insensitive things about complex, difficult subjects his no doubt extremely small, ignorant brain grasps about as well as a three-week old comprehends shapes, decided to tweet:" (It was something dumb). The Mariners are currently considering their options.
  18. Ivan Nova seemed to figure a few things out in Pittsburgh - probably that the NL is easier - and is shaping up to get a few more dollars in FA than I would expect. Really rough FA class.
  19. A couple (I think semi-realistic) ways the Twins could improve defense (and maybe the pitching staff). 1) Sign Wilson Ramos. He's apparently good at pitch framing which could really help a guy like Gibson, who nibbles a lot. Plus, having Ramos back would make a vocal Twins fan happy. 2) Try and trade for Jurickson Profar (or another plus SS defender). He's had an up and down season offensively and he's not playing short for the Rangers but he's still only 23 and was a great SS prospect and the minor league reports said he was good in the PCL defensively. He has three more years of team control so he'd cost a bit to get. But even if the Twins didn't want to trade anyone on the ML roster, they could put a nice package together around Gordon, for instance. 3) If you get a new short stop you can trade Dozier and slide Polanco to second. Big offensive drop but hopefully you'd get a nice return for Dozier to immediately help the pitching staff. 4) Fix bullpen through FA? Horrible SP market but the relief pitcher market might be a bit better. 5) Fire Allen. Even if you're stuck with Molitor we can try a new pitching coach. An up the middle defense of Ramos, Polanco, Profar (or plus SS) and Buxton would be pretty good. We'd still have a bit of problems in the corners, depending on what stat you prefer, but not major problems. Obviously, the Twins won't do all five of those things but they might do one or two.
  20. It's probably worth remembering that the Shields trade worked out well for KC but not so great for Tampa.
  21. If he could just hit .297/.348/.672 for the next decade, I'd be pretty happy.
  22. Good to hear. Also nice to see he's making these comments about some of our lesser known prospects. Cool.
  23. It's in the right neighborhood. Maybe drop the PTBNL. I'd also rather get a second pitcher than Diaz or Barnes. I wonder if the Twins might instead look to nab some established vets rather than rolling the dice on the Dodgers equivalent to Berrios. If the Twins could get a couple legit middle of the rotation starters, sort of like Ervin Santana, the pitching staff looks a lot better right away. I'm not sure what teams have those kind of guys available to trade and/or are looking for help at second base though.
  24. Slightly off topic but this is one of the things that really ticked me off about Molitor this year. Arcia busted his butt in the offseason, both offensively and defensively, but he never got a real shot. Constantly yanked in and out of the lineup. Never making more than 5 starts in a row. Sure, Arcia probably would have failed. His warts too big to overcome but he was a former top hitting prospect who deserved that chance. Vargas doesn't even have that pedigree so I'm not sure Molitor is going to give him an extended chance.
  25. Oh, sure. Maybe. Perhaps I was misreading the basis of some posts.
