  1. I suspect that means the Twins aren't budging off of one of the pieces they want.
  2. If it is the Blue Jays, I'd be very surprised if Reid Foley isn't one of the pieces coming back.
  3. The offense really isn't that far away. (And I think they'd be closer if they had better coaching).
  4. Yeah, good point Vanimal. Abad played well for us and didn't complain. Best of luck to him in Boston.
  5. And now I'm just hitting refresh on mlbtraderumors ....
  6. I think that's probably a fair trade - Light might be sort of like Pressley was a few years ago? For a LOOGY, a hard throwing reliever with 6 years of control seems fair.
  7. That was an insane trade for Miller.
  8. Well, there's a 2 WAR difference between them on B-R and B-R WAR usually passes the smell test better than fWAR. And FIP is the same argument we use to say Nolasco doesn't suck. Stroman did have a good rookie season but since then he's been injured and this year he's putting up a Nolasco-like 85 ERA+ and sub zero WAR. Considering the question marks around him before, I think one can argue that his future is in the bullpen, not the rotation. I'm not sure if the Blue Jays will put him on the trade block but I also wouldn't want him back as the centerpiece for Santana.
  9. I hope they move Suzuki. Abad, Kinzler, Santana can all be moved in the offseason, if needed.
  10. The Twins do have the advantage of not needing to trade him. He's a good player - already worth 2 WAR this season - on a decent contract. He shouldn't be a salary dump. If they can't get a better package than Nunez', keep him. They certainly shouldn't dump him for another team's pu-pu platter.
  11. On their ML roster, Marcus Stroman is having a bad year. He's their version of Berrios, only shorter. 5'8". All the talk we heard of Berrios being too short applies to Stroman. He's already burned his 3 option years (I believe) and was injured last year (knee). Some thought he'd be best used as a reliever and, frankly, as a starter, he hasn't been that impressive yet. He'll be 26 next year. Santana would be a big upgrade over him for Toronto and Toronto might be willing to move him.
  12. I think any trade would have to include Sean Reid Foley, a starting pitcher prospect. He has some flags - strange mechanics and is still only in A+ ball. But he has ace upside and is having a tremendous year. His teammate Jon Harris is another guy to look at. Foley is #94 on mlb's list, Harris is unranked. Considering the returns we've seen in this market, I think the Twins could get 3 or 4 prospects from Toronto.
  13. MLBtraderumors mentioned that the Blue Jays were scouting Santana last night.
  14. Much better guess than mine!
  15. I think 4th starter means two different things. 1) To scouts, it's a description of the player's stuff - John Sickels had a good discussion of that: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2012/8/7/3226335/defining-1-2-3-4-5-starters. A #4 starter won't have any plus pitches but should have solid command/control. But that's just the scouting line - a #4 can pitch above his expectations (or below). 2) And then I think people say "he's a #4" and they mean that they expect that he can pitch 180-200 innings at roughly 95-100 ERA+, 2ish WAR.
  16. It'll be very fun to see Polanco, Sano and Kepler in the same lineup. That was a hell of a recruiting class. As to where he'll play, it seems like he's blocked by Dozier and Sano. I'd certainly listen on Dozier but I'm not sure there's a big market for second baseman. The team (and scouting reports) don't think he can play short. Considering they already have a bad third baseman, maybe having a sub-optional left side of the infield isn't ideal. That said, in this lost season, I'd stick him at short for 60 games and see what happens.
  17. Yeah, that sounds about right. He's a good get but he's likely a back of the rotation starter, which is nice but not a top 100 type. But let's hope he excels for us.
  18. There is no chance the interim GM has power to make Molitor play anyone considering the statements made by Pohlad. But I do suspect that Molitor will let Polanco play short for a few games. But if he goes 1-7 in his first two games, maybe the lure of Danny Santana is too great?
