    Took the bus home from work today. This lady got on with a newborn, and the bus driver was just brutal, calling it the ugliest baby he'd ever seen. She sat down next to me crying her eyes out, just a wreck. I felt bad and told her she should have given the bus driver a ration of crap right back, she'd have felt better. "In fact," I said, "you should still do that. You go up there right now and tell that SOB off. I'll hold the monkey."

    WIth the off day yesterday, Mrs Chief and I went to the horse track. I picked a horse at 10 to 1. The nag finally got to the finish line at two thirty.

    You might be correct. He might end up a good starter. I think that's wishful thinking, but I've certainly been wrong before. As an aside, I pay no attention to WAR, I think it's junk. At best, if its math, it's questionable math. So while others might be swayed by a WAR based argument, it falls on deaf ears in my case. The innings argument has some validity, except that I think the usage of a good reliever makes up for a lot of the difference, particularly if the relief innings are more dominant.

    I'm not overwhelmed by an argument that failed starters are a reason to give others a chance to fail first.

    Actually, he was a starter with a great arm, who had iffy secondary stuff, problems with consistent command, and a tendency to get exposed as a starter, but who's stuff plays up as a reliever. Sort of like what I expect is the most likely result with Meyer.

    I would let Meyer develop into a late inning Bullpen weapon. Given his pitch mix and tendency to lose his delivery over time, I think that's his best use. I think the Twins see it that way too, and had him start in Rochester simply to get some innings in. When Santana returns, he can take the place of any starter, including Milone. Same for Gibson. The bigger need is dominant relief. I vote trying to get Meyer successfully into that role.

    I grow more impressed with Park by the game. He'll K, a lot, but he mostly forces pitchers to get him out on pitches in the strike zone, and when he connects, he hits the ball hard. Need to keep him in the lineup.

    As Danchat posted above, I would think it'll be Berrios and Duffey getting starts, with Meyer in the pen. Unless Duffey is hurt, then prolly Meyer.
