    Molitor has never managed. IMO the last thing he needs is to add a pitching coach who has never been a pitching coach. Get someone who has at the least had some successful minor league experience, if you can't get a guy with successful major league experience.

    I think it was first reported here at TD by a couple guys who witnessed it, and later saw the forearm wrapped and then in a cast.

    True enough. Like I said, if Molly is the hire, I hope he does fantastically well.

    I can't shake the feeling this decision was made a year ago. And I can't help but feel disappointed about the apparent strong phobia over going outside the organization. I've been wrong before, hope I am again and Molitor turns out to be a great hire.

    And by doing it their way, the Twins have been in deep doodoo for the last four years, and have in their past been in the same condition for decades at a time. I think we all understand there are limits, and ideally your minor league system provides a good chunk of what is needed. Some of us just have different ideas about how and when to augment that pipeline, and perhaps about what ownerships responsibilities should be.

    Welp, that explains Parker and DSP. But Dan Anderson doesn't strike me as a 60's dropout type.

    And my assumption is, they had roughly the same other expenses in the dome. So why the sudden need for a lot more money in the "other" column? TF mortgage payments,maybe?

    I honestly don't think it's money. I kind of wish I did think it was money. That would be easier to explain. But IMO we're left with other explanations, none of which seem at first glance very complimentary to the Twins.

    That's the thing though...it almost CAN'T be about the money. It's not a significant amount of money. And I'm someone known to mention money on occasion. So what is it? It is baffling to me.

    Which, if true, tells us more than a little about how this pretty universally admired manager views the Twins job, IMO.

    It seems pretty clear Gardy knew why Molitor was added to his staff, and that certainly adds some validity to the idea Ryan knew who he was going to hire a year ago.

    I'm too lazy to look it up, but if memory serves, the sabrgeeks have determined a single is worth about 25 percent more than a walk on average. So no, all OBP is not equal.

    I'm not sure how a seven game series is inherently more chaotic than the one game series used by the NFL. Or for that matter the 5 and 7 game postseason series used in the other major US pro sports. I get the crapshoot argument, and there's certainly merit to it. But I also think post season baseball isn't played like the regular season. Depth is important in the regular season, much less so in the post season. Your stars aren't getting days off, the bottom of your rotation and bottom of your bench are virtual non factors. The bottom of your bullpen might not even see the field. I think I read the three headed monster out of KC's pen pitched 40 percent of the innings in the ALCS...forty percent. That doesn't happen in the regular season...not even close. So my opinion is...something of a crapshoot? Sure. Completely random? Possibly not. KC doesn't need to mtch up with Baltimore's 25 man roster. They only need to match up with the top of it. That's a huge difference, IMO, compared to a 162 game grind.

    Even if the pitching staff stays at 12 all season, it's still very difficult to devote two players to one position. Strict platoons are rare these days, and getting rarer.

    Your contention is, when TR said he wanted to be playing meaningful games in September, he meant meaningful for the other team? If they truly meant "competitive" as in taking a couple of games from a playoff team While closing out another 90 loss season, then I don't know what to say except IMO it's not Mike's definition of competitive that is questionable.

    I can't recall...were the pitches called strikes? If they were called strikes, that seems to settle the issue...if called balls, that seems to confuse the issue. I guess I should have noticed that at the time.

    He could add a bit more chalant to his OF play, too, for my tastes.

    I'd like to see Santana at SS, Eddie as the futility infielder, at which point I would hope two spots on the next good Twins team are filled.

    I don't mean to sidetrack this thread, but all OBP is not equal, IMO. A single is worth more than a walk, because it can advance base runners more than one base, for one thing. And, of course, not all hits are singles...some are doubles, triples and home runs. As this relates to Hicks, I think it's doubtful he can maintain a .340 OBP unless he can hit for a higher average. Major League pitchers are too good to keep walking guys who can't hit. My personal preference would be to give Hicks one more shot at CF out of spring training, and hopefully settle the issue, with Buxton somewhere on the horizon to either move Hicks to LF or 4th OFer, or out of the organization. He might fail (as might Buxton) but at least you could feel fairly confident at that point about giving up on Hicks.

    As I recall it, Reed's control was so shaky the two guys that he hit were both in the on deck circle. Of course, my memory ain't what it used to be, so I can't swear to that.
