  1. I'd start by finding a couple DFA'd outfielders with no past and no future, sign em and get em on the 25 quick like. Edit: on second thought, better sign at least one extra. You never know when one will turn down your offer of a big league job.
  2. There's a couple things that haven't changed, starting at a level above the dugout. So I would say a more accurate thread title would be, the more things stay the same, the less things change.
  3. My guess would be if anyone takes Hughes' place in the rotation, the most likely candidate is Gibson.
  4. Teams can and do misjudge a player's ability to make the adjustments, or improvements necessary to hit big league pitching. It's a difficult and inexact thing to do. Teams rarely spend years looking at a guy play defense and err on the side of too much caution when it comes to playing middle infield. If they have doubts about his ability to play SS in the big leagues, there's a very strong probability they're correct.
  5. Or perhaps having a leader who has been there, is widely respected, and can effectively convey the need for an even keel, but maximum effort day in and day out, was one reason why last year's team was able to overachieve. Able to, after a rough first week, put it behind them and at least, if not winning, avoiding long, demoralizing stretches of sub-MLB quality play. Keep the losing months respectable, so the winning month mattered right up till the end. I doubt having Hunter here would make a huge difference either. Just like having Mike Trout wouldn't make a huge difference. But little differences add up, particularly in a sport where a .550 winning percentage is pretty good, and .450 is pretty bad.
  6. Somehow it felt less devastating down 0-8.
  7. How exactly does you having vodka numb our pain?
  8. Hughes v. Pelphry. Another 2 hr ballgame, I'd bet.
  9. We complain and complain about Molitor not pinch hitting, so he sends up Arcia against a leftie. "See, internet know-it-alls? Pinch hit, pinch hit, pinch hit. Blah blah blah. Now STFU."
  10. With Suzuki's wheels, I'm shocked that didn't work.
  11. According to Google Maps, no. Still in Michigan, same as before.
  12. http://lubbockonline.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/superphoto/11230656.jpg I got nothing. But Richard Dawson.
  13. All of us here who have been screaming for years now for Dean to make the big club are vindicated.
  14. How the bleep are we down 8-7? Doesn't Goins give Molly one of those little cards that tells him when to go for two?
  15. If that holds, I believe that'd be back to back wins for Dick. ... People. Pick up your game. Sheesh.
  16. ftfy. edit: //what I SHOULD have said:// Not that I recall. Nor a married one, for that matter.
  17. What's the point of taking him out now? Let him pitch another couple innings and try to leave on something of a positive note. If it doesn't work, it's not like he could leave on a more negative note.
