  1. It's not the only way to judge a defender, for sure. But reliably turning the chances you get into outs is at least as important as range. Probably more. Getting to 15 extra balls per year is nice. But it doesn't outweigh booting 20 extra ground balls. Nor is range more important than knowing how to play the game, anticipate plays, and be in proper position. That's one reason why all the angst of the sabremetric community over Jeter was terribly misplaced. He didn't have range towards the end, but the Yankees kept playing him there because, in total, he was still a very good SS. He made the plays he got to, and almost never made the wrong play or was caught out of position.
  2. My impression, based on entirely too little information, is that it isn't Polanco's arm that's his primary problem, nor his range. It's his "hands." Playing SS involves accepting and catching so many hard chances that someone with a bit of a case of "iron hands" is probably destined to fail. I haven't seen enough, though, to form any kind of solid opinion. Based on lack of SS play in his recent minor league history, I'd guess the Twins already decided he's not going to be able to play the position long term. Teams don't often move players off SS in the minors until they're forced to. SS's are too valuable.
  3. I can't afford a wench.
  4. I do the same thing! Does yours end up looking like #2, like mine?
  5. Wrong thread, but it boggles my mind that Berrios can be in the organization since 2012, and they're just now deciding to change his motion.
  6. Command is somewhat important for a pitcher.
  7. And where does Molitor bat him??? NINTH ferpetesakes!!!1!11
  8. Just more proof that baseball is the most wondrous of the major sports.
  9. I started with the least desirable and moved up. Still a lot of rejection, and never did hit the right level.
  10. Shameless, self serving plug: Only 4 games left this season needing game thread vols: Sep 24, 25, 28, 29. You know the drill.
  11. "Sometimes, you can't give your money away."

  15. laying on the couch?? pfft. if you can still get up on the couch, you're nothing but a pantywaist lightweight! laying on the floor, like a real man, you mean, amiright?
  16. Maybe I missed it, and it's been posted, but the PP is reporting Anthopoulos is no longer a candidate.
  17. Which is it...paragraph 1 or paragraphs 2 and 3? Because in 1 you indicate the Twins can't afford it. Then in 2 and 3 you admit they can, but the timing has to be right.
  18. The car is going to lose 550 games over 6 years, and is currently in possibly the worst shape of any of those 6 years. It hasn't finished a race in first place in two and a half decades. It's already had a sledge taken too it, been run over by a monster truck, and is farther from being on the road again than it's ever been. The last thing I want from new management is "well, let's not be hasty here."
  19. If he's likely to be DFA'd, then he's not "just fine" as the 2nd utility infielder. Particularly in June. I have no problem rewarding a good company man with a month's big league salary. Good for him, and good on the Twins. But he shouldn't get meaningful playing time. "Feel good" shouldn't be the priority.
