  1. We know with absolute certainty the Twins view Polanco as a 2nd baseman. Having zero SS's on the roster seems like another data point in favor of new management.
  2. The reasons the Twins moved Polanco off SS in the first place still exist. I strongly doubt this happens. And i strongly believe it'd be a mistake. Find a SS. Don't just find a person to play the position.
  3. You can say this as many times as you wish, in whatever length sentences you wish, and it'll still be speculation, without a shred of evidence.
  4. I'm confused...your argument is that because the Twins handed out contracts, and extensions, to lesser relievers, they wouldn't have given a contract to Pressly? That seems...counterintuitive.
  5. How he was acquired is not relevant. Albert Pujols was a 13th round draft pick...a lottery ticket. Would you have traded peak Albert Pujols for Alcala and Celestino and considered it "quite a bit of value for a 13th round pick?"
  6. Give me Pressly over Alcala and Celestino every time.
  7. Well, I guess if offering an 8 yr, $200m contract is "letting him walk." The Cardinals tried very hard to retain Pujols. https://www.google.com/amp/s/syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/610475-st-louis-cardinals-reportedly-offer-pujols-8-year-contract.amp.html
  8. Did 2020 only happen to Twins minor leaguers?
  9. Concur. One of my favorite all time Twins. How do you not love someone who plays all 9 positions in one game??
  10. This seems so obvious to me. It also ignores the obvious point that if somehow you COULD wait until you have your entire team set up save for that last perfect piece or two, YOU'VE PROBABLY JUST MISSED OUT ON A WORLD SERIES. You should have added those final pieces sooner, so that you had them in place for that season when everything else came together. Now it's too late, you missed your perfect season.
  11. Have you looked at the history of the Twins developing impact pitching? One plan: sign proven guys, hope they stay mostly healthy, and hope your minor leagues eventually provide even more pitching when/if they prove ready. Other plan: Hope your minor leagues provides ALL the pitching you need, now and forever.
  12. I just can't see any way the Twins are going to buy an OFer yet this offseason.
  13. The MLBPA has ignored minor leaguers since it's formation. MlB players do nothing for minor leaguers. Try again.
  14. I am generally on the side of labor. In my post-USAF life, I was even a shop steward for a couple years. However, this isn't anything close to a normal labor management relationship. This is grotesque. Since I can't get behind ownership, and can't get behind the players, I choose what's best for USAFChief. I want more equal competition between all 30 clubs. One of the things the NFL got right was resisting their player union and setting up a system where all teams have a relatively equal chance at winning. Money isn't a big factor, it's smarts, coaching, good drafting, and some luck. Players still make good money. For purely selfish reasons, I want MLB to more closely resemble that, and the owners positions will get us much much closer than the players. The LA Dodgers are everything that's wrong with baseball. I want to eradicate a system where they can purchase a division endlessly.
  15. No, it does not. Anyone is free to start a professional baseball league. Baseball's antintrust exemption allows for fixing minor league salaries and league control over franchise relocation. It does not prevent establishment of competition.
  16. I call BS. https://www.ziprecruiter.com/Salaries/Union-Actor-Salary-per-Hour Average is $55k/yr.
  17. Ok. Let's pretend the players never come back. I can't see that happening, but what's the long term downside? A few years down the road nobody will know the difference. The same current minor league players that will constitute MLB....will constitute MLB. And for the record, they WILL come back. None of them are going to give up 6, 7, and 8 figure annual salaries for very long.
  18. Outstanding post. I would go so far as to say prospect reinforcements are NEVER as strong as some believe. Particularly pitching prospects. The idea the Twins will have a contending team built from current minor league pitching is a long shot. A very long shot.
  19. Here's my letter: Dear Mr Manfred: Break the union. Start spring training with minor league players. I guarantee you, a missed paycheck or 2 from the pampered crybabies will have the MLBPA begging to get back on your teams. Focus on making the sport more competitive top to bottom. Institute salary floors and caps that are relatively narrow, and all teams can live within. Pay more to minor leaguers, and flatten the payscale of major leaguers. Give players the ability to move around after 6 years of service, but take away the enormous financial advantage of some teams to buy up players that exists now. MLB and its fans will be better off with a neutered players union and more competitve league. You'll get some short term bad press, but long term you'll better the sport. Sincerely, Chief
  20. The trick is not to accumulate pitchers. That's easy. I guarantee the Twins will break camp with 13 or 14 pitchers next spring. As will every team. The trick is to accumulate pitchers who are better than other team's pitchers. "He could be gone tomorrow" is no more a good thing for a pitcher than "he's cheap to cut" was a good thing for Jake Cave.
  21. We are becoming a joke.
  22. Nor is there a need to find things to praise them for. "They paid him just enough that no other team would claim him?" C'mon. He wasn't claimed because 29 other teams didn't think he was a player likely to add wins.
