  1. As currently constructed, I'll take closer to 60 than 80. This has a chance to be the worst team in MLB. Certainly a real chance to have the worst pitching, and now we've lost 2 of the team's better hitters and gotten worse defensively.
  2. Ron Davis is available too, and I bet would pick up the phone.
  3. Except the top hitter is missing the entire season rather than just the second half.
  4. Some organizations prioritize winning over bottom line.
  5. Fangraphs...Fangraphs is silly, as usual. No shot this team as constructed wins 80 games.
  6. I don't think these are even remotely related, Mike, and neither do you. I wanted owners to break the union, because that would be good for baseball. I don't want owners to pocket money. I want owners to compete for championshipships.
  7. Why would they need to trade Donaldson to acquire a pitcher by trade? Not to mention...who? Who are they trading for that requires $25m per year? Who would even be available? Scherzer isn't for sale. Again...you're simply arguing from a standpoint of Pohlad's bottom line, rather than winning baseball games. Why? What reason do we have to support ownership making even MORE money?
  8. To recap: 1. Worse off at C. 2. Worse off at 3b. 3. Still no SS. 4. Pohlad's bottom line improved. Which of these appear to be the goal?
  9. They don't have Donaldson, and could have had both Donaldson and Story. According to Nick the whole idea was to shed Donaldson's contract. So yeah, that's pocketing money. I guess if they sign Correa I might be talked into the fantasy they "reallocated" the Donaldson money. But even that's a stretch.
  10. Concur. I don't understand how someone gets joy from watching ownership pocket more cash. I want to watch the Twins win.
  11. We lost nothing by signing him. It was the opposite of a mistake and should be repeated often. Personally, I wish they had about 10 Josh Donaldsons. They'd be world champions.
  12. The trade wasn't Donaldson for Urshela and Sanchez. The Twins also gave up the SS they spent Garver to acquire plus their backup catcher. And just Donaldson was an overpay.
  13. There are no pitchers to sign. But why not keep Donaldson AND sign Story? They had plenty of payroll space. Oodles. There was zero need to salary dump. I do agree I'll be shocked if Story is a Twin, though. And pissed he's not lining up next to Donaldson.
  14. So: your position is 1) the Twins can't contend this year, and 2) the Twins should have no expectation of contention? What an awful take.
  15. False. At a minimum, at least one poster disagrees....me. He was one of the Twins best players. Maybe the 2nd best. Salary is irrelevant. The Twins could afford Josh Donaldson. And then some.
  16. This gives the Twins one quality MLB starter. Four to go. Add Story for SS, 3 or 4 good relievers, and we're on to something here.
  17. .271/.312/.357 85 OPS+ That's probably about what can be expected. He's not an offensive asset. He's a liability.
  18. Concur, except for calling IKF a "Gold Glove SS" He's not. Awful trade.
  19. IKF is going to bat 4, 5 or 6? Holy cow we're going to be even worse than I thought.
  20. Forced into a platoon disadvantage? First off, he's a RH hitter, so he's always going to be at a platoon disadvantage over his career. There are more RH pitchers than LHers. And second, Jeffers hasn't faced an inordinate number of RH pitchers. He's had 123 PAs against LHed pitching, 232 vs RHed.
  21. This is a trade made by losing teams. Ask yourself this...is any actually trying to win a WS handing a starting job to IKF? Would the Dodgers? Yankees? Red Sox? Texas moved on, because this is a placeholder. Someone has to stand at SS on opening day. This is not a player that helps you be better than other teams. I couldn't be more disappointed in this FO.
  22. You want to extend a guy that everyone here will want replaced by opening day 2023?
