  1. August? What will the rotation look like opening day??
  2. I've read through the entire thread, twice, and I'm pretty confident nobody said "nothing could go wrong." Myself, I've said I won't have remorse if, seven years down the road, Buxton hasn't earned the contract. We can't know the quality/quantity of Buxton's play over the next 7 years. But right now we can make a determination if, given the information we have right now, this was a good move for the Twins. It was. It is. Future developments change none of that.
  3. I'd certainly be sad if Buxton gets hurt. That has zero to do with "remorse" over the contract. I won't feel any differently about it even in the extreme possibility he never gets another PA. They HAD to sign him, he signed for a bargain, and I'm really glad they worked it out. It's a fantastic outcome for my favorite club. Nothing will change that.
  4. You maybe, but not "we." There is no chance I look back on this with remorse. None. There is absolutely NOTHING the Twins could have done with $100m this offseason that would have been money better spent. If Buxton never gets another PA, I won't complain.
  5. If the Twins do that I'll help organize a raiding party to burn down Target Field.
  6. Disagree strongly with all the above. Torii Hunter was a fantastic CFer. He took great routes, which combined with his speed and fearlessness led to lots of extra outs. That said, I think he falls a little short of Cooperstown.
  7. But he was already there. He was Twins property until they declined arbitration.
  8. He was already "locked up." They had no need to "lock someone up just so they know they have someone before the chaos ensues." They saved a couple hundred K by signing him prior to arbitration, but they had no need to "lock him up." If they were planning on finding an upgrade, why would they give him a contract now? They'd be wasting those couple hundred thousand dollars. Why not just wait it out and owe nothing to Cave until arbitration time?
  9. There was no reason to sign Cave if they weren't pretty set on him being on the team that breaks camp next April. They're not looking for an upgrade. He's it. You're missing the forest for the trees.
  10. I can't come up with a reason for this contract other than the FO is planning on Cave being the opening day 4th OFer. Why else sign him, taking up a 40 man spot?
  11. We have plenty of pitching. We had 13 or 14 pitchers on the big league team at a time last year. We sent em down, called em up, waiver'd em, claimed em, IL'd em, DFA'd em...heck we ran through approximately 150 pitchers last season. We have pitching coming out our ears. What we need is good pitching.
  12. I assumed you were a little old to be looking g for a prom date. My bad.
  13. Nick: "And guess what's going to be happening during those months? This comment seems entirely oblivious of the reality that is about to materialize. It would be nice to have any semblance of good news or encouragement before the baseball world shuts down completely." What would you speculate Nick is talking about here?
  14. Don't mean to speak for Nick, but I'm pretty confident he was referring to upcoming labor issues related to the expiring CBA.
  15. No. Nico Goodrum does absolutely NOTHING if the goal is to win more games than you lose. Sheesh.
  16. If you ignore ALL the games Buxton played he has ZERO WAR!!1!
  17. It is an option. Just doesn't seem like a good one, to me at least.
  18. If Chapman only has 2 years of team control left, and the Twins aren't competing in 2022, why are we trading for him??
  19. "Plugging the hole" implies the dam won't be leaking any longer. I don't think putting someone else's leaky plug in our SS hole does that. You don't build "sustainable contention" with substandard players. Why wouldn't we expect the Twins to target ABOVE average players??
  20. First off, signing this year's JA Happ and Joe Bagodonuts isn't going to sell tickets. Nor do I see any way that provides a "better opportunity" to build a homegrown staff. And lastly, there ARE front offices out there that expect to compete every year.
  21. I think the team with the worst record SHOULD get the highest draft pick. Unless you can convince me MLB players are purposely losing games, there's no reason to do what the NBA did. In fact, following the NBA in ANYthing would be a terrible idea. The NBA is awful.
  22. Wait, wait, wait...did you just call out another poster for an "inability to reconcile Buxton's actual performance and achievements with the mental and emotional view of what he may represent" while simultaneously claiming Lewis is Buxton's equal?? Yes. Yes you did. FWIW I hope you're eventually proven correct about what Lewis may someday represent.
  23. He's 22, coming off major knee surgery, hasn't advanced past AA, doesnt have a position, and has a .740 MILB OPS. It's a long stretch at this point to put him in the same conversation as Byron Buxton.
