  1. The starting staff is made up of free agent signings that had health issues and a pitcher [ Milone ] who has a history of not being able to pitch more than 160-175 innings before wearing out. These kind of things happen during the course of the season. I still don't know about Buxton. And I still don't know about the Twins playoff chances. I say let him play out the year in MLB. And I'd kinda want to see an OF of Rosario, Hicks and Buxton.
  2. Nice article, Nick. Kennys Vargas is #2 of 3 that were holding their own HR derby in Spring Training when it was supposed to be batting practice. All 3 paid the price when they got sent down. And again, when need arisen, when Eddie Rosario was called up before them. Sano was #1; Arcia #3. There are a lot of similarities between Vargas and Ortiz. Both are BIG for baseball players. Vargas is HUGE. It sounds like he's getting it together. I think [ got not stats ] that it takes large player longer to develop a consistent swing and approach than most. That being said, I don't like calling up Vargas to be a pinch hitter at all. My view of a pinch hitter is a high-contact/walk person. He's been hitting better, not great. I don't believe a Sept. call-up is warranted. If he finishes strong this year, he gets to fight for a roster spot in 2016 Spring Training.
  3. I'm not all that big on "prospect" lists. They're still unproven prospects. That being said: level after level, Berrios had proven himself. I don't know if it will be a cursory callup, but I'd like to see him get at least a little action against MLB batters.
  4. The data is interesting, but is based on a group of players. And in my book, that doesn't count for much more than interesting stats. Coaches watch their players and make judgement calls. Number of innings pitched is nothing more than a guideline. Berrios has pitched only 15 more innings than last year, so I don't believe the end is near. Just not sure I'd want to take the chance and suffer the rath of TD'ers.
  5. Why are people finding it interesting that Ryan is in town to watch his top-level minor league players at work? Isn't there a big roster expansion coming up in a few days? The best I can say about it is this: Berrios performed extremely well with the boss in the stands. My understanding is Berrios is facing an innings pitched limit and they may want to keep him in Rochester for a potential playoff run. Either way, I wouldn't want to see him pushed too hard and ruin that potential. After what he has done, he deserves at least a perfunctory courtesy callup.
  6. Is it "No man's land" or "Just no man, just noooooo..."
  7. I never did. I think we should be really, really happy with the 61-61 record Twins have right now. I suspect this move is one of: 1. Admission that current minor leagues aren't really ready 2. Cotts is only here because of #1 above.
  8. After a fraction of a season, I can't believe anyone would bring up a long term contract for Sano. And considering the number of times Buxton has gotten injured, he'd be the last guy on my list for a long term contract. If Sano starts raking early next year, I'd consider it. If Buxton doesn't get hurt at all for a full calendar year, I'd consider him, too.
  9. Only response I have is: DUH. Like Rosterman posted: You wanted changes, you wanted signings, you got them. Problem is: this is not really a good team. This is and average/below average team with a few average/maybe above average players. They've had to added players from the MiLB to boost this team to the average level [sano, Hicks, Rosario, etc.]. No above average player wants to be a MN Twin. You'll have to bribe them with a ton of money to get them here. OK, I got another response: TIME TO GET REALISTIC.
  10. "As the most prominent local minor leaguer since Joe Mauer, Buxton has been tremendously appealing to fans from Apple Valley to Zumbrota, particularly as the Twins scramble to hold on to one of the AL Wild Cards." Local? Byron Buxton was born and raised in Baxley, Georgia.
  11. Well, the MiLB is the lifeblood of the MLB. Especially for the Twins. It's the ONLY blood. So you really do need to keep those cities happy. I find it a little hard to believe that Hicks would just rollover for Buxton to take over CF. And remember what happened in the previous 2 shots by Hicks and the brief stint by Buxton. I don't believe Buxton is quite ready for the MLB, but getting pretty darn close.
  12. You've got me really curious about that statement. I haven't seen that much of either in the field. Is Rosario's arm better than Hicks? Or is it that Rosario has a better understanding of positioning, angles and situational play?
  13. OK, you weren't exactly saying what I thought you were saying. My apologies. I don't have the evidence in front of me, but I speculate that you will see somewhat similar splits with all switch hitters. Simply because there aren't that many ambidextrous people out there and even fewer in the MLB. Ken Brett is the last I can remember.
  14. Miguel Cabrera is not a switch hitter. Miguel Cabrera is not Aaron Hicks
  15. Your assumptions are: Hicks BABIP against LHP must go down Hicks hitting against RHP stays the same.I dispute both points. Statistics are a single point in time: per AB, per game, per month, per season, etc. It's not totally unrealistic that Hicks can sustain that BABIP. Limited AB's from his natural swing against a limited number of LHP's. #2: That's an assumption that he can not improve. Hicks has improved this year and I see no reason why that suddenly stops. Just like I don't assume what Buxton can be based on 11 games at AAA.
  16. What?!?!? What have you got against Hicks? Has he not consistently continued to develop this year into a player that is deserving of regular playing time in CF? ATM: Buxton is well deserving of a Sept call-up. Reasons: You don't take a player on an incredible hot streak away from an MiLB affiliate prior to their playoffs. As an organizational man, would you want a lot of empty seats in Rochester? How mad would the locals be? 11 games, 47 AB's. Not sure on what sample size is appropriate..........This has been a great discovery year for the Twins, giving them a clear picture of what they have and what they need. I don't really expect them to be in the hunt after this next set of series. Let Buxton hang out in Rochester and pad his stats. In Sept, since there's a lot more roster room, bring him up with ABW, Kepler, among others. They're the one's that get to rotate, for what he has done this year, Aaron Hicks is the deserving starter.
  17. So you're saying Buxton should be brought back up AAA-sap?

  19. Yup, and Arcia is constantly grinding away on that hip. Best of luck to you on your shoulder rehab. Maybe someday those that manufactured these wars will stepup and pay for the recovery of those who fought those wars.
  20. I'm a believer that much that is said about Arcia's defense is word of mouth stuff. Just like the person responding to this topic saying Dozier and Rosario play "outstanding" defense.
  21. If it is in fact a hip injury, this may be a permanent thing.......
  22. Do we not remember what happened to Danny Santana and Kennys Vargas after great debut years last year? Superstar status doesn't happen after 1 season, let alone 34 games.
  23. Nick, I've gotta believe it's all 3, exactly in that order. I haven't seen video of Arcia plate appearances lately, but the recurrence of the hip injury certainly would explain the good July and sudden failures again. I don't know anyone how wouldn't sulk, at least a little bit. And probably lead to #3. I'm not 100% up on his contact, but believe his options are up and Twins lose him. I'd be tempted to try to sign him on the cheap and see what plays out next year.
  24. I was really hoping that somebody would be Arcia or Vargas. Walking Sano would force the opposing team to throw strikes to Arcia or Vargas. Not sure either is up to the task yet. Dozier may be a better choice right now. He's still feeding on high fastballs [or so it seems].
