  1. As far as being in MN right now: From the Pioneer Press a couple days ago: "Twins general manager Terry Ryan doesn't think Miguel Sano's bat is big-league ready." Here's the link: http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_28398169/minnesota-twins-not-rushing-miguel-sano-call-up I think Sano should be promoted to AAA. A maybe on Kepler. In 58 games, his stats are really impressive and a pretty good jump from the rest of his MiLB stats. If he keeps it up over the next couple weeks,Kepler is AAA bound as well.
  2. Oh, if you offer a play enough money, they'd still sign. It really is that simple
  3. Snorkel There, I now qualify to be a part of the Boston Globe sports department
  4. IDK, 1 HR every 2-3 games seems like an awful lot.
  5. I'm still not a believer the Twins are a real contender for a playoff spot. I'd be happy with .500+. Hughes, perceived #1 or not, is the first one I'd trade. He has more value than the rest of the staff and showing some life. Twins may actually get something for him. Trevor May: just when you think he's got it figured out, he get's tagged hard and often. Let him work it out and re-evaluate at the end of the year. And I don't think sending any of the current starting staff to the bullpen will really be of any benefit. Billy Hamilton: that's an easy one. Treat him the same way teams treated Vince Coleman. Ignore him. Let him steal bases because he doesn't get on base often enough to make those steals all that valuable. I wouldn't risk a ball ending up in centerfield.
  6. I'm a little tainted on Pinson. In the early 70's I got to watch a lot of him on TV. He was a classic 'hanger on' who openly stated he wanted to play as long as it would take to get the 3,000 hits that guarantee's election into the HOF. As I recall, Pinson got hurt a lot in those final 4 years. I hate seeing a player go out like that. Pinson's career numbers aren't that great. Just another great guy with good stats who won't make the HOF. I hope Torii retires before he becomes another 'hanger on'.
  7. I got the wrong guy: I should have said Boyer, not Fien. Start of the 7th, got a 1 run lead and following a soft throwing Milone. IMHO, perfect spot for Meyer. I'd already have Fien and Perkins warming up, just in case. I'm also not on the side that says the Twins could make the playoffs. I'm looking towards the future.
  8. IMHO: Alex Meyer should have been put in, instead of Fien. After having an unsuccessful start in his 1st MLB game (which I think he deserves a mulligan) you just DO NOT let him sit on the bench the next game.
  9. When getting excited about promoting minor leaguer's to the bigs: Beware the slider. It will kill them every time. (I've also said "Beware the 5-tool player" several times, too ) D. Santana and Vargas this year, Hicks and Buxton. All have fallen prey to the slider (or other breaking balls) over the outside corner. The Twins are hanging in there, but mostly by smoke and mirrors. Like how many times this year has there been an outfield filled with outfielders?? Or a permanent solution at SS? Catching? Promote Sano NOW. To AAA to get a peek at a decent slider cruising over the outside corner.
  10. blairpaul715 should have put " demands " in quotes. Would have save a couple guys a lot of extra typing
  11. 15 Best Player not in Baseball Hall of Fame (Fox Sports 1/7/2015) Yes, there's 1 degenerate gambler, at least a couple certified steriod users and a couple more that MLB keeps chasing and can't prove. AND the complete abomination that Joe Jackson isn't the HOF. If Torii Hunter is better than these guys, then he gets in. Barry Bonds Pete Rose (now, not just a no, but a HELL NO) Roger Clemens Mike Piazza Jeff Bagwell Jeff Kent Mark McGwire Time Raines Edgar Martinez Sammy Sosa Rafael Palmeiro Fred McGriff Larry Walker Don Mattingly Shoeless Joe Jackson
  12. I think the Twins should continue the auditioning of their MiLB prospects. You gotta find out if they're for real at some point.
  13. Followup is a pretty simple thing to do......
  14. Buried in today's StarTribune article by LaVelle on Buxton: "The Twins conducted tests and found a slight tear in the ligament." Buxton's time out has been extended to 4-6 weeks. Also: "(Terry) Ryan had one problem. Buxton didn’t get treatment on the thumb before Wednesday’s game. “That’s the one thing I disagree with or am disappointed in,” he said." Not a smart thing on Buxton's part. A guy with his history of injuries should know better. And so should the Twins training staff.
  15. Interesting..... I think there's a couple things behind this theory. One, is there are far more marginal pitchers available that the Roger Clemens / Randy Johnson type. So, take a staff of "marginal" pitchers and have them pitch with maximum effort for 5 innings, instead of milking through the 1st few inning them to pitch beyond that. You'd probably have to rethink your bullpen, as well. Would there really be a Closer or would everyone in the bullpen be expected to be able to throw at least 2 inning? I wonder what that does to their payroll and how crazy that makes player agents....
  16. You're on a roll today Parker! This all seems to be following along the plan Ryan and Molitor talked about. Get Meyer in game situations where there is less stress, work on his mechanics and strategy and just generally let it fly. Really liked that he shook off Pinto to throw back to back curveballs. That says a lot. Some bullpen work in the Majors as a status check. If it works out, Meyer works in the bullpen the rest of the year and get's stretched out for starting next year.
  17. Molitor says a month, eh? Watching the video Parker posted [ THANKS PARKER! ] Molitor is being kind. Buxton's wrist bent all the way back at full impact. At best, I'm guessing sever sprain; out 2-3 months. But at that kind of impact, a broken wrist isn't out of the question. I hope I'm wrong on both.... I find the fact that D. Santana played a game in CF interesting. Was it recently? Then I'd find it VERY interesting.
  18. In the brief stints that he's been in the MLB, I think he's acquitted himself very well. I thought that was all at 2B, but Baseball Reference says SS. Oh, to hear Jim Kaat say "San Pedro de Macoris" just one more time
  19. I don't think moving any established MLB player to another position for Polanco would make a lot of sense. Especially since the Twins moved Dozier off SS, possibly because they thought he couldn't handle it. Twins management seem to be locked in on D. Santana as the SS of the future. I'd still like to see him in CF. Buxton still gets at least another week audition.
  20. Audition time for the Twins continues. What does it say about the rest of the relievers at AAA when Meyers got promoted before them?
  21. I agree with you on Nunez's defense. I lot of it is based in from the past where he made some Major League bonehead plays. Right now, Twins need a hitter more that a defensive whiz.
  22. Ish. Desmond harvested a bumper crop of K's last year and his overall offensive stats seem to be in a steady decline since his best year, 2012. To me, a trade would have to be really cheap. And then there's the other thing: Twins need a batter or 2 to step up. Only Twin hitting .300+ right now is Eduardo Nunez.
  23. I see what you mean. I'm on the other side: I think too much statistical analysis ruins what is, by definition, a game. If I were big into Fantasy Baseball, it would probably be a completely different story
