  1. Park is now in town and the line I'm reading the most is both sides expect a contract to be signed, soon. Also read on MLB Rumors, a Boston Herald writer predicts numbers like the 2015 version of Mitch Moreland. I'd take that for a first season. Sounds like Ryan is still set on the same course. From this mornings Strib: "Ryan said the Twins prefer to keep current first baseman Joe Mauer and third baseman Trevor Plouffe in those spots, but that Miguel Sano, who launched 18 home runs in half a season as the Twins’ DH, will move to the outfield to accommodate the newcomer." There are some stories out there that Sano is hurt. There are others that say his recall to MN was just a standard health eval.
  2. Good question. There's the D. Santana the shortstop and the one that's a centerfielder. Last season, his time as a MLB shortstop was pretty horrible in the field. I mean, he was booting very routine plays and I'm betting the pressure to perform at SS lead to his poor AB's. I keep looking at his 2014 stats, especially the splits. I don't believe it's an aberration that D. Santana played and hit better as a CF than as a SS. Is Santana every going to be a defensive CF like Buxton? Hell no. I don't think there are many that could reach that level. I do think its possible that Santana can have a better overall game than Buxton? Errr, I'll defer my beating for another topic
  3. What has Buxton done so far this off-season that would have improved his hitting skills? I haven't heard of him playing winter ball. If something has happened in the off-season, then it will be sorted out in Spring Training. If not......... I have little doubt the Buxton will start 2016 in Rochester. He needs the reps, badly. I don't know why the Twins would troll the wavier wires looking for a starting CF. Danny Santana should get his chance again, in CF. Rosario can back him up on off days. Or a veteran FA OF looking for a job. In the end, whomever ends up in RF [sano? Arcia? ] they're not going to be great outfielders. The Twins will need a lot of speed in CF. If Buxton can hit +.250 and with better quality PA's, having him covering CF could be of value now.
  4. Awarded the winning bid Nov. 7, deadline to sign is Dec. 8 and he's just now flying into Chicago to meet with his agent. Then a physical. Then I hope they get him in a batting cage with the machine cranked up to 94-95 mph. Cutting kinda short, aren't we?
  5. Another little tidbit from MLB Rumors Mailbag: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/
  6. Do you have any Plouffe of that?
  7. It IS nice to hear the Twins connected to rumors, isn't it. If this happens, I think it'll go down something like this: You give me a list of the MiLB players your willing to trade and I'll give you a list of your MiLB players I want. I get 3: One I can hang my hat on and 2 somewhere in the middle.
  8. Buried deep in the MLB Rumors, Twins section: November 21, 2015 at 6:39pm CST Here’s the latest from The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo… down down down 2 more..... "The Twins are another team looking for relief help and they’ve also received a lot of interest about third baseman Trevor Plouffe. There has been speculation that Plouffe could be moved to make way for Miguel Sano at third base, especially if the Twins come to an agreement with Byung-Ho Park." Oh to be a be a fly on Terry Ryan's wall.......
  9. Wow, he had a lot of time to tee up on that one!
  10. Why would the Twins include Berrios in a trade for Fernandez? It makes zero sense. First of all, IF the owner wants to get rid of him, You don't walk into a situation like this and offer your top young player. You have the upper hand, use it. Kepler gets them interested, Kohl Stewart is the kind of pitcher they like and I'd dangle Polanco. Second: if you trade Berrios, what would that do for the rotation? If you're making this trade, you're doing it to match Fernandez with Berrios. How does a rotation that starts with Fernandez, Duffey and Berrios look to you? Of course, the Fernandez situation isn't exactly clear....
  11. From ESPN: Five possible trade destinations for Jose Fernandez. The Twins are at #4. WHAT?!?!?! Remember people, the Marlins are now desperate to get rid of him. Take advantage http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/66550/five-potential-trade-destinations-for-jose-fernandez. Kepler, Gordon and Kohl Stewart.
  12. 207k's in 2012-13 to 303 in 2014-15. Impressive! Average fastball in Korea is 88 to 90 miles per hour “and straight.” That explains a lot of the videos I've seen. He was really teeing up, maybe a little grandstanding. "Wearing a Tsuyoshi Nishioka jersey, and a stranger sneered at him, “Why don’t you and Nishioka go back where you came from?” Yun said: “I said, ‘He’s from Japan; I’m from Korea.’ "
  13. Any thoughts on management's side of turning him into a starter?
  14. I'm not at all sold on Park. The video I've seen, he looks to be teeing off on weak Korean pitchers. Read this column from Charley Walters: http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_29118127/charley-walters-byung-ho-park-has-ton-power Drop-down to the part where Jack Hannahan talks about the difference in Korean and MLB pitchers. Just based on that, I think I'd keep Vargas over Park.
  15. Sounds like you want to dump a poor performing guy with a bad contract for another poor performing guy with a bad contract. Upton's improvement last year was based on only 228 PA's. Actually, looking at his career stats, the best thing Upton has done in his career is strikeout. The Twins fall-back position for CF seems to be Danny Santana or bring back Shane Robinson. Nolasco contract: 2016 Contract Status: Signed thru 2017, 4 yrs/$49M (14-17) & 18 team option Upton contract: 2016 Contract Status: Signed thru 2017, 5 yrs/$72.25M (13-17) Contract info from Baseball Reference.
  16. Well, first off, you don't take out a $12.85M flier on a guy [which would be on top of his salary, if signed] to have him play in the minors. The Twins already have a bunch of decent prospects there. And based on Charlie Walters column from the 14th, I'm not so sure I'd sign Park. Read the part about what Korean pitchers throw: http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_29118127/charley-walters-byung-ho-park-has-ton-power Second, with the Twins problems with the bullpen, 2 or 3 of those guys will probably end up in the MLB. Third, Dozier hitting leadoff? That lineup seems pretty outta whack to me. Where are the pitchers?
  17. Interesting. The question for Vargas is: do you think the Twins will have room for you as a full time DH next year? With the likes of Mauer, Sano and Arcia around, it would be a pretty tight fit for the big guy. And I'm not even counting Park......
  18. Great article! Nice to read positive again! I love watching Rosario play. Just a little better control of the strikezone.... If not for the self-manufactured rotation mess, there would be no doubt May would be a starter. Sano seems as cool as they come. This off-season he's working on getting in better shape [from a reported 270lbs], which is key for next year. It's a very short sample size, but which pitcher was key down the stretch? Duffey. See my May comment. Escobar was a revelation last year. He is a proven SS. Berrios: it's time. See comments on May and Duffey.
  19. You do know the reason the Twins traded Hicks was to clear the CF spot for Danny, right? lol !
  20. Agree. I fined it weird how people criticize some players after they've had successful season and give players like Arcia a pass after being demoted to the minors and generally stinking up the joint.
  21. "Hicks trade opens up center field for Buxton". I keep reading this everywhere. Utter twaddle says I. He's got a lot to learn at the plate. Bring him up now? Pray for Gary Pettis-type numbers. Hicks was traded for a need at catcher. Or maybe to open up CF for D. Santana? LOL! Arcia, Vargas and Pinto on the bench: Altogether or separately, those aren't good bench players. Solid defense and good-eye, contact hitters they ain't. Plouffe won't be traded, Sano will be in RF, Rosario will be in LF and will hit even better than last year, Mauer will be the starter at 1st.
  22. With the way Perkins broke down last year and to a lessor extend 2014, I'd like to see the Twins get a 2nd closer-type pitcher and match him with Perkins.
