  1. I think LewFordlives meant to say that while Nola has been a very good pitcher, 7 years is a long deal for a guy who has started showing some warts. I personally think he is excellent, and can see him being effective over the course of the deal considering he relies more on impeccable control and a 5 pitch arsenal than a power arm that may fade through his 30s.
  2. I don't understand this, at all. The hype? He has hit everywhere, literally his entire existence on earth. I don't know what guys like you and Twinstalker need to see, or if you're really seeing it at all. The guy rakes everywhere. He has significantly improved in the field from what I saw several years ago, to today. It's obvious even to an untrained eye, you do not need advanced metrics to spell it out for you. The only thing I agree with you on is if the Lee train is coming and the Twins are unwilling to move Royce to center, they'll have a log jam at 2b, 3b, 1b and DH. If Julien could net another Lopez type arm, I'd move him. But it'd have to be a really good arm.
  3. Same. His character, drive, determination and love of the game always spoke more to me than his OPS at AA. To me it was always just a matter of time and health for him. And I feel the same about Jenkins. He has the same traits as Royce, and if he stays healthy, I imagine he'll move rather quickly.
  4. Walker has an absolutely beautiful swing. Effortless. Ball explodes off his bat. With his makeup and talent, I could easily see him making some big jumps over the next year. If he finished out next year like some people are hoping at AA, that would be incredible, and also mean that he is destroying the competition. I personally think that finishing at high A would be impressive, and probably most likely of all the scenarios
  5. They should have skipped him a couple starts and brought Dallas up. As a former pitcher I can tell you with near 100% certainty he is having some dead arm issues and just needs some rest.
  6. I wonder if ERod will be someone they'll consider for the AFL this fall. I know they generally seem to send guys from AA and above, but he has been dominating for big chunks of the season now, and he could get some valuable experience to make up for time missed earlier this year. I think, like Lee, we'll be seeing him sooner than expected. I also loved the Keaschall pick, and he has been playing really well. I see him as a valuable, swiss army knife type of player for us down the road.
  7. None of these trades do anything for me. I'm not giving up a 20 year old throwing darts at AA for 2 months of Hader. Especially when we have two pretty solid bullpen arms about to return. Id be looking to move Kepler or Polanco, or both. Maeda or Gray, preferably Gray because I believe we could easily bring Kenta back. I'm not trading Wallner or Larnach unless I'm BLOWN away. Not because I think they are studs, but Gallo and Max and Gordon probably all aren't back next season, so if we trade either of those guys now we have quality depth issues in the OF. Polanco to me needs to go simply because we'll get good value, and Brooks Lee is coming. He is gonna be ready very soon, that bat is dirty. He is young, and fits perfectly with the core we're gonna be competing with the next ten years. And Buxton needs to either be back in CF or do something with him this offseason. His bat stinks. He is made of glass. Most of his value has always come from his insane speed and defensive chops, neither of which are a factor anymore. He is closing in on 30. Everything is trending way down for him.
  8. ERod has been great all season, with the exception being May when he was working back from being injured. Ive watched him a bunch this season, he is the real deal. People should be very excited.
  9. Ill personally be going with the previous 5 years dating back to his college days vs 2 games.
  10. I'm going big, 39-21. Twins make three big trades for Royce Lewis, Caleb and Brock, to fill the three biggest needs on the team. RH bat, check. Solid lefty bp arm, check. Flame throwing righty bp arm, check. Also, Keith Law put out his new top 60. Three twins in the top 25. Lee, ERod and Jenkins.
  11. The level of relief I feel right now, knowing you aren't the Gm, cant be put into words. Most on here have been excited about Alex since Terry Ryan stole him in the draft. He is young, controlled, cheap and finally healthy and knocking the cover off balls. It would be colossally stupid. He is a foundational piece along with several others that you build around. What we need is one more SOLID relief arm, a lefty would be great. And a RH bat that can play the outfield would be next on my list. I'm personally more interested in leaving 1b open also so I can hide Julien there some next season if Buck needs to DH the entire year again, which I pray isn't how it goes.
  12. Pitching, defense and other teams poor play are all part of winning. It's not our fault the White Sox have been inept at the fundamentals for what seems like my entire lifetime now. Watching the Twins horrid play in regards to these things last year was the most disappointing thing about this version of the Twins. Playing the "if these 3 things happened we'd be........" is dumb since it can be played both ways. We hit 307 homers and couldn't win a single playoff game. 1987, 1991 and 1999-2010 are the blueprint. Pitch, play defense, don't make dumb mistakes. Have depth and a roster that gives you favorable match ups. We have all that, plus a pretty good prospect pipeline for depth or trades. We will not be the 27th ranked offense at the end, guaranteed. And we won't have the best team era. The norms will slowly take over, but I'd bet my house we are in a better position to win playoff games today versus last season.
