  1. I'm really rooting for Tait. He was fun to talk to in spring training this year. So was Ricky Castro. I'm pulling for both of these players because they took time to talk to me and Tait gave me a baseball and Castro actually got in touch with my grandson, who had just torn his labrum pitching in college in North Carolina. Castro and my grandson both shared their strong Christian faith. with each other.
  2. Big whoop! I would not trade either Houston or Culpepper for Volpe. If you agree, then why trade for Volpe?
  3. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo to both Volpe and Doval.
  4. The Twins have better prospects in AAA and AA for SS than Volpe. Doval is no better than Orze or Raya, and they are both in AAA. The Twins do not need a cast-off Yankee SS. They need a really good reliever.
  5. Jeffers high value is limited to only 1 and a half more months. I guess it just depends on what the return for Jeffers is. And it depends on whether one wants to win today or build for next year or the one after that or the one after that. But there is no getting around the fact that relief pitching is the Twins biggest current need. The Twins already have a glut of young talented outfielders, chomping at the bit to play in Minneapolis., plus Buck and Keaschall and Larnach and Martin. There is no need for more outfielder prospects right now. (Jenkins and Emma and Wallner are ready)... Plus two future big league shortstops, in Houston (currently hitting .333) and Culpepper ( who will play 2B), plus Brooks Lee who has blossomed at 3B and Cody Clemens at utility, Plus I like the way Kreidler plays baseball. Good fielder and a really smart player. That is a really good infield, except for 1st base, which Clemens and Caratini and Lewis can all play. at an average level. , plus several really highly ranked catchers. (Lackey, Tait and Tinney) . and Caratini and Jackson combined are above average at catcher Starting pitchers: Bradley, Ryan, Ober, Lopez,( next year), Prielipp, Mathews, Quick (in the minors), Rojas (maybe relief), The Dependable Relief pitchers are only Gonzales and Morris. Not Rogers, not Nance, not Funderburk, not Anderson, not Raya, maybe Rojas. It is very clear the Twins need relief pitching immediately. and also for next year. This is what the Twins need to get for anyone that they chose to trade at this year's deadline. The Twins are on the cusp of some really successful seasons, no matter whether they trade anyone this year or not. Let's don't mess it up by trading just to be trading.
  6. So because this team is better than many predicted, we should not do what helps this team win more games in 2026? The most important game of the year is the game that is being played each day. Then the next game. The most important series of the year is the series being played now. The most important season is the current season. Carpe Diem !
  7. Would you agree that relief pitching is the Twins weakest position?
  8. The two teams mentioned who are rumored to want a catcher are locked in a tight race for the pennant. Neither will sacrifice a decent reliever at this point. Therefore a three or more team trade needs to be arranged in order for Jeffers to go to either of these two contenders. with the Twins ending up with their biggest need, relief pitching. Teams most likely to trade relievers are teams which are not contending for a playoff spot the rest of 2026 and will probably be rebuilding, therefore willing to receive prospects in trades.
  9. Ryan, Larnach and Ober can all help the Twins win the AL Central title this year and also next year, whereas more prospects probably won't help this year or probably next year either. By trading these three team-controlled in 2027 players, the Twins are hurting themselves for two years, not just one.
  10. Ruddy Gomez needs to be considered for a current relief role on the Twins. 2 innings pitched, resulting in zero hits and 6 strikeouts is a dream come true for a pitcher.
  11. Schoendinger's cat? I had to look that up. I still don't understand what the hell that means. Who puts a cat in a box with a flask of poison and a radio active source ,which could possible cause the flask to burst, releasing the poison, thereby killing the cat? That is similar to putting a baby in a cradle high in a tree top and waiting for the wind to blow. Ashbury, based on your post about that darn cat, I either have 1) a new-found respect for your vastly superior knowledge...or 2) I have just lost what little respect I had for your limited knowledge. Can you predict whether #1 is true, thereby making #2 false, or #2 is true, thereby making # 1 false? Here is a hint: 2>1. PS I hope you know that I am trying to be funny. I have always enjoyed your posts ,Ashbury, and I have found some to be extremely humorous and 100% to be kind and full of wisdom. I would enjoy buying you a beer and talking about baseball, if our paths every cross.
  12. If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a wonderful Christmas. We can't predict the future. "Winning isn't everything. It is the only thing. " ' Damn the torpedoes, Full Speed Ahead." As Yogi Berra said, "It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future."
  13. What is the rule about keeping your uniform shirt buttoned. Lately I've noticed some players (tonight Butler for the A's) keeping their top 2-3 buttons unbuttoned. Wouldn't a close inside pitch be more likely to a flappy shirt? Seems illegal to me.
  14. I would like to see Zebby join the bullpen, regardless of whether another starter is acquired. He has a history of allowing minimal walks. Walking the first batter by a reliever is agonizing to me. Demoralizing, ridiculous, and downright #@&*8#@** @%$* to the max.
  15. I don't subscribe to Baseball America. Can someone who does subscribe to it report where the Twins prospects are ranked, or is that some copyright violation?
  16. I too fail to understand the significance of WPA. It makes no sense to me. Some body please explain it in a way a third grader can understand. Then maybe I can appreciate it.
  17. A shout out to Matt for this beautiful piece of writing. I am currently a writer in residence for a week at Weymouth Center for the Humanities in Southern Pines, North Carolina. Matt's writing is in the same league as other masters of the craft, Roger Angell, Roger Kahn, Thomas Boswell and Red Smith.
  18. Even after review on the replay screens in New York, I still say the runner was out at first. Lewis was wonderful in that whole sequence. He is becoming a baseball player too. I loved that defense.
  19. The Savanah Bananas are a baseball business. The Minnesota Twins need to be about winning by playing baseball as it is meant to be played...with everything on the line every day.
