  1. Margo vs. Farmer? Until Julian gets back to the Twins, I submit that the Twins need Farmer to play occasionally at 2nd base. Castro and Martin are the 2 other second basemen on the Twins. Both of them are adequate in the OF. Since Wallner is strictly an outfielder, in order to promote Wallner to the Twins, another outfielder, Margo, needs to be traded for some very young, minor league, flame-throwing, low floor, high ceiling pitchers. The Twins can also pay some of Margo's salary, if necessary.
  2. When I was in the infantry in Korea in 1968-1969, we did not have heat tabs to cook our c-rations when we spent 4 days and nights at a time at Guard Post Gladys in the DMZ, nor when we went on 24 hour ambush patrols in the DMZ. Therefore we would open a Claymore mine and pull a strawberry- sized hunk of C-4 plastic explosive out of the back of the Claymore, light it and cook our c-rations over the intense flame, stirring the can of c-rations continuously so the "delicious" contents would not burn, while holding onto the folded back top of the can. The C-4 only exploded when we sent an electrical charge through a long wire from a hand-held clacker, which we squeezed 3-5 times rapidly to send the electric charge through the wire into the C-4, causing an explosion which sent dozens of metal pellets out the front of the Claymore mine. I appreciated the C-4 then and I now appreciate the other C-4, the shortstop, who ignites the Twins at bat and especially in the field with his marvelous play and his explosive arm and his positive energy.
  3. The saying goes that hindsight is 20/20. In hindsight, I would not trade Royce Lewis for anyone else in that draft. His infectious joy at playing baseball is off the charts.
  4. I agree 100% Doc. Good positive character will carry one a long way, whether one is a baseball player or a politician or a voter.
  5. The 2019 Twins set the all-time major league home run record (307) and had the second most wins (101) by a Twins team, yet the Twins were again swept by the Yankees in the playoffs. That goes against your theory of the team with the most home runs wins. I know you did not write exactly that, but that is the way I interpreted your explanation of why the Yankees beat the Twins like a drum, year after year. In contrast I prefer my simple explanation of the Yankee dominance over the Twins as being revenge by the damn Yankees over the Senators tricking Mr. Applegate by the use of Joe Hardy. It's evil lashing out against the forces of good. It's the story of human kind's fate in a flawed world. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
  6. There is a great movie, which features the song, "You've Gotta Have Heart" and "Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets" and "Shoeless Joe from Hannibal, Mo". The musical story is based on a novel titled: "The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant".
  7. I am glad to see Margot improve his batting. Last night he played CF. This is smart and playing into the FO's plans, which are to trade Margot for some flame throwing minor league pitcher.
  8. "Joe Hardy, Mr. Applegate, Lola". Can't you see? Don't you understand? This problem is much bigger than anything that any of you realize. Mr. Applegate (the Devil himself)) wants the Yankees to win, because they are inherently evil. In 1954 Joe Hardy out-smarted Mr. Applegate in the Broadway show; "Damn Yankees", resulting in Joe's team, the lowly Washington Senators, beating the Yankees for the pennant. As a result, the Devil was humiliated on the grand Broadway stage and he remains mad at the Senators/Twins and causes errors by the Senators/Twins, poor hitting by the Senators/Twins and poor pitching by the Senators/Twins as revenge for the Senators' victory 70 years ago in that musical. Until the Twins produce another Joe Hardy, to permanently break this evil spell, there will be tribulations for the "Minnesota Nice" Minnesota Twins whenever they play the "Evil Empire" New York Yankees. I thought Harmon was the one to do it, then there was Tony and then Joe, but Mr. Applegate prevailed. Now Royce and Walker are next. It is Good vs. Evil. The eternal struggle of mankind. (Sorry, I got a little carried away...I hate the damn Yankees !)
  9. If you look straight at the center of the City Connect jersey and move your head rapidly in an up-down, nodding motion, the waves actually do ripple, and you can see subliminal pike slowly swimming by from the jersey's left sleeve to the right sleeve.
  10. I think the Minnesota "City /State" Connect uniforms and hats are beautiful. A lot of "Minnesota Nice" thought has gone into this design. I applaud the Twins and MLB and Nike for doing this. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. My eyes tell me these uniforms are beautiful. My home county in North Carolina has beautiful Lake Norman, the largest man-made lake in North Carolina. The dam provides power for millions of North Carolinians. It also contains 50 square miles of surface area and over 500 miles of shoreline. There are beautiful trails for hiking and biking, largemouth bass and crappie are plentiful, and wonderful boating and sailing are available 365 days out of the year. It is a peaceful place. I'm sure Lake Norman may seem small to many of you reading this and I'm sorry to report there is no ice fishing here, but we can fish from boats and from shore 365 days out of the year. The city of Charlotte is less than 30 miles away and many beautiful lakefront homes border the lake. We in North Carolina are proud of our Lake Norman. We are also proud of our beautiful mountain streams that I can drive to, over winding country roads, by woods and pastures, and be there on the Blue Ridge Parkway in less than 2 hours from my home. There are abundant trout streams for fly fisher -persons. Mmmm, so good when cooked right. The Atlantic Ocean is only a 4 hour drive from my home. More delicious fish, plus crabs, clams and shrimp to catch. You in Minnesota are also rightly proud of your beautiful lakes, rivers and streams. I will never forget my first flight into Minneapolis as we flew over so many shimmering lakes. Gorgeous ! The unique blue ripple effect on the Twins' new uniforms reflect the pride and beauty of lovely Minnesota for this one North Carolina Twins' fan. Go Twins.
  11. I wonder if any thought was given to putting Lewis at 2B? Maybe that would be too risky, since Lewis has not played 2B much and the injury risk is there when turning a double play. Just asking.
  12. This chart makes me wonder what the Twins could get for Duran? Wait, wait, no, no. Don't do it. Just saying.
  13. I would advise any FO to read "Moneyball" before trading to Oakland for a reliever.
  14. I'm sorry I read your article, because I'm having flashbacks to some malcontents, (Lance Lynn, Simmons, Shoemaker and the worst: "The Rainmaker himself, Josh Donaldson). These were awful signings due largely to the attitudes of these players, causing problems in the clubhouse and on the field. I am so very glad to see that the FO has learned from its mistakes and now "Positive attitude" is a something which the FO acknowledges as being an important component of hires. "Minnesota nice" is not just an idle phrase. It means something important to me as a 70-year fan of this franchise, even though I live in North Carolina.
  15. Good article about a good suggestion. I do not see any downside to it. Thanks Cody.
  16. "Big Boy Towns" aren't worried? I have 3 words for that: "Boston - Babe Ruth"
  17. Can you just buy an MLB.com account? How do you propose to fire the owner?
  18. Great points Doc. Margot was a mistake from the time his contract was obtained. He has proven to be an even worse mistake by his lackluster play in the field and at bat. Even his few doubles and singles are not impressive to see. Kyle Farmer is probably going to be on the team until the end of the season. But had I been the FO of the Twins, I would not have signed Farmer to a $6 million extension in view of the owners chosing to cut payroll by $30 million. Here is a question that I would appreciate someone answering. How much of the $30 million allegedly lost due to the TV contract was recouped in the "new" tv deal? Where did that new tv money go in the Twins' budget? Will someone ask Falvine and the owners and St. Peter that question.
  19. Quick. Time to trade Margot. So far tonight he is 2 for 3 with an RBI and a double. Hurry. Call Atlanta, Call Tampa Bay. Call Miami. Hurry before Margot's next at bat.
  20. Festa looked really good in a 2024 spring training game I saw. (I know that is not a key test of his readiness, but just saying.) He is the next SP for the Twins, should/ when the need arises. I would like to see Keirsey brought up and Margot released/traded/ optioned/ off the roster. But then do the Twins send Julian to AAA when Lewis is ready? Only if Lewis plays 2B. Farmer is having a really poor year so far.
  21. Interesting question. However even though Max has been with the Twins a loooong time, it is too early in this relationship for the Twins to "pop the question" to Max. Let's re-visit this question after the 2024 World Series ends.
