  1. I was thinking the same thing. How cool would it be if all 3 emerged! We would have to keep a fire extinguisher in the bullpen!!
  2. I sure wish i was down there lounging and hanging around the park.
  3. I will say this about Plouffe, he has been improving. To me he seems like a stand up guy as well.
  4. I like those guys too. But, between trades and free agents, I just wanted us to get something more. There are teams that took steps to improve their pens.
  5. I'm not a huge fan of Ryan either foghorn and clone. Our bullpen has been not so good for 4 years or so. We come in to this season with what additions? To me that's just more of the same unless, cross your fingers, some youngsters emerge this year. So in a way all you're sayin is that(let's substitute me for Terry Ryan to be considerate of him)if I fart in public, which happens often by the way, and the guy next to me turns to me and asks if I just farted, just have the guts to admit it. Am I right?
  6. Agree or disagree.....this post sort of cracked me up!
  7. IMHO, it comes down to a very thoughtful reply to a comment I put in another thread by another poster. He/She made a comment on my roster projections saying that he/she felt my idea would be "poor asset management." I didn't agree or disagree. But, that comment "asset management" really made sense to me and I'm glad that person said it. I think that's what it really comes down to when people are discussing the management of the Twins. I have never been a GM of any team and would likely be horrible because I make too many rash decisions. But, my opinion from the outside looking in, is that sometimes the Twins are run from mostly an asset management perspective. I feel like they could stand to step outside of that framework and be more proactive at times in constructing a current roster. To put it another way, little more current picture thinking and a little less big picture thinking. Sometimes I feel like people get the impression that everything is big picture and some really want a "roll up your sleeves and aggressively tweak the current roster approach." We don't seem to see much of that IMHO.
  8. Yea I understand what you are sayin. I'm not gunna say I'm right or you are wrong. That's just how I would do it.
  9. If the outfield is as such, you have plenty of righty/lefty batting order flexibility. Plus, Kepler can play first base sometimes against righties. Santana can also play SS or 2B. Also, you have no defensive liabilities to hide. Buxton R Kepler L Rosario L Santana SW Kepler = all star minor leaguer last year. Arcia was utterly a mess. Who's closer to MLB ready? Stick Sano at 3B where he belongs and bring Plouffe off the bench. I guarantee that all the extra outs that Kepler reels in in the outfield are more than the difference in errors between Plouffe and Sano at the hot corner. Plus, Sano is a cornerstone player. Plouffe can be a bench bat if we can't trade him. Make Polanco your utility SS/2B. Switch hitter and a pretty good hitter off the bench. Plouffe can back up at 3B. Lastly, maybe keep Vargas as another bench bat/left handed option. At any rate, that's how I look at it. A roster like this- ROSARIO L BUXTON R KEPLER L SANTANA SW SANO R PLOUFFE R MAUER L PARK R DOZIER R ESCOBAR SW MURPHY R SUZUKI R VARGAS L POLANCO SW
  10. Thanks for posting this nmtwisfan! It is indeed one of the best days of the year!
  11. You can stick your head up a bulls arse to check the meat or you can just take the butcher's word for it.
  12. If I were the coach, and Berrios came to camp looking sharp and coming off a great season, I would have a very hard time looking him in the eye and telling him to go to the minors. I want all my guys to work hard in the offseason(check), put up really good results in the minors(check), be hard workers(check) and be a good teammate(check). If you want players to have the team's best interest in mind you need to show the player that the team also has his best interest in mind. Also, if you have these expectations of your players, it probably bodes well for morale to reward a player when he achieves what you are asking of him. I think he could help the team win a few more games right at the beginning of the season as well. But, we'll see what happens. I'm not criticizing the Twins or anything. Just kicking out some of my thoughts on the matter.
  13. I don't advocate one way or another. My point is that he is in a tough spot both for himself and for the team. The guy has to try and get on track in the majors since he is out of options. Hard for him and hard for the team. I also hope that he has success.
  14. Arcia is in a tough spot. His play last year does not warrant a roster spot. If he get's a spot, he won't get the reps to turn the corner on his career and he will likely be overmatched. The guy needs more time in AA/AAA to find his groove at this juncture. I don't see him making the team as ending up as being a positive for him or for the team.
  15. I completely agree with this statement. Yet, I couldn't disagree more.
  16. At that number a couple dandy relievers would be well within reason and would make a world of difference. When there were some quality free agent relievers available it would have been within our means to perhaps even pay a little above market for 1 or 2. A players real value IMHO is relative to the need of the team that want's him. In the case of the Twins, a quality reliever would be highly valuable. But, we don't seem to do anything but use hope as a strategy.
  17. I enjoy many points that were made in this post. Not every one.....but many. It sickens me that a few percentage points of our population controls 90 percent of the money and thus, the power. I agree that there should be better regulation of baseball and all parts of our economy to insure a better balance. So, when I hear that a gazillionare is concerned about losing a little money on our national pastime I have no stomach for it. These are ruthless business people with loophole money everywhere due to owning a financial dynasty. Not enough money to grab a few decent free agents once in a while? Give me an $?&@/? Break!!
  18. I fail to see how having a 40 million dollar asset in ones portfolio is the same as having an 895 million dollar asset. Also, how do people look at growth within one's portfolio of 855 million during the time of ownership as not being a part of profit?
  19. I see no problem with leaving the cupboard a little overstocked short term until a favorable return surfaces.
  20. These are great problems to have. I'm very excited to see it play out. Having said that, I believe they will error on the side of giving those guys who are out of options a longer leash so that this depth stays in tact until the cream rises to the top with great clarity as opposed to guessing at who those players might be. I can understand where patience can be a heavy contributor to the long term.
  21. I would like Vargas and Park to become a good righty/lefty DH/1B and bench bat combo.
  22. Haaaaaa!!!! I am laughing out loud at the new term describing poor performing vets getting a season long spot as being "Pelfreyed!" I hope the term sticks. I like it!!!
  23. Would it be a stretch to bat Escobar leadoff? He seems to grab challenges and run with them. Maybe something like this.... Escobar Dozier Sano Park Mauer Plouffe Murphy Rosario Buxton
