  1. You can't stop them! You can only hope to contain them!
  2. I am shaking in my shoes right now as I'm sure Joe Girardi is.
  3. "some pop"...just not enough pop to overcome the bad defense. I wish the guy well, but I don't see me missing him. Grossman at least isn't considered a liability in the outfield whereas I would have to say that Arcia is. Grossman doesn't have as much pop as teams would like...but we are the Twins. We have a first baseman who lacks pop.
  4. I think they are hesitant to send Park down because they think he can benefit from seeing more MLB pitching. The guy obviously has power and can play a decent 1B. I think the more MLB pitching he sees, the better off he's going to be for the next 2.5 years.
  5. I think this is the last time we see Arcia in a Twins uniform and possibly in a MLB uniform. The reason I say this is because he is not a good outfielder. He has some pop, but not enough to overshadow his poor defense. That makes him a bad candidate for a NL team. So, what AL team is looking for a DH?...I mean other than the Twins. Think about it. If the Twins don't want him as a DH, who does?
  6. Did you know that Thing was actually the hand of Ted Cassidy...the dude who played Lurch?
  7. Agree. May as well say Perkins done for life.
  8. Here are some general things that I would propose. 1. Contracts to pitchers should not extend beyond there 30th birthday. Once they hit 3-0, they get one year deals. That might seem limiting, but I haven't seen many cases where giving a multiyear contract to a guy beyond 30 that has worked out. I'm playing the odds and the odds are heavily against the guys north of 30. 2. Younger pitchers need smarter catchers. I'd require IQ tests for catchers along with concussion tests on a regular basis. The catcher is the QB of the defense. If the NFL can do Wonderlic testing, why not MLB? 3. Fitness bonuses in all contracts. Come into camp out of shape, it costs you. Come into camp in shape, you get rewarded. Fitness trainers also get rewarded if 95% of the team comes into camp properly conditioned (weight, strength, endurance). Shoot them down or add to them.
  9. I think the biggest issue with the Twins in the front office is that they are loyal to a fault to players, staffers, coaches, etc. That's great if you're a player, staffer, coach, etc...not so great for us fans. We keep players because we "like them". They're a good "clubhouse guy". Meanwhile, we get rid of more talented players who don't quite fit that bill. It's been going on for years and years and this year is no exception. Of the players that you mentioned, think of how many actually deserve major league starting spots just based on the numbers.
  10. "He's only 30". Look at the stats for pitchers over 30. It's not pretty. They don't get better. So, if you can get something for the guy, get it.
  11. In honor of the walk off by Kepler, I propose we all hoist a cold Shoffenhofer beer!
  12. Speaking of beer. Anyone ever had a Shoffenhofer? Grapefruit beer! I'm not big on ruining beer with fruit, but it is really refreshing on a hot day.
  13. No Bud, no Miller, no Hamn's in my fridge...only my lady friend Stella.
  14. While I agree to a point, if a schmuck like me can look up what happens to pitchers over 30. I would think an owner of a baseball team should know as well.
  15. ...and another thing. What about Perkins conditioning? He's not hanging out in the Dominican over the winter, but he's not exactly coming into camp in condition.
  16. I especially liked his point that we are going into a draft with the same scouting staff that has proven that they can't evaluate talent...yet are not held accountable. I disagree with the following statement: As for ownership, the hostile hard-cores love to complain about the Pohlads, but they deserved a great deal more than they have gotten for the $170 million that Ryan committed to veteran starters Erv Santana, Ricky Nolasco and Phil Hughes. They deserved what they got. They paid top dollar for pitchers who were past their prime and were, in some cases, already past the magic 30. The numbers are there for everyone to look at. Pitchers over 30 are similar to running backs over 30 in the NFL. They don't improve and often fall off a ledge when the miles on their arms catch up with them.
  17. Very entertaining thread tonight gents! (and/or ladies) G'nite to all!
  18. Bert "he's been struggling a little bit"...possibly the understatement of the year.
  19. Just think of how many guys have girlfriends/wives with a signed Derek Jeter baseball! They all thought it was really cool until they figured how how she got it.
  20. Actually, the bottle of Pepto should have been what I gave the ladies when I was single...here ya go honey, you got so drunk last night that you need this.
  21. I hope that wasn't part of the gift bag.
  22. What I'm more curious about it whether he just has a closet full of handbags, signed baseballs and $40?
  23. I had heard that Jetes gave out gift bags for the ladies that he took home. Gotta admit that the guy still managed to keep a clean image even with the NY press following his every move.
