  1. Save a seal, pound a monkey!
  2. There we go! Now if we can get a log of everyone's favorite Canadian beer. Used to be Molson Ice back when they made Molson Ice and I was listening to Loverboy. Nowadays, I'd probably try something a little more out there like Flying Monkeys Acadian Groove Canadian Maple Porter....it sounds like fun!
  3. First of all, the polar bears all stopped looking for Seal after he and Heidi Klum divorced. They, like many, are now focused entirely on Heidi Klum and are watching America's Got Talent every night that is on. Apparently, polar bears have a good eye for "talent". Secondly, no mention of Nickelback or, for us older gents, Loverboy? Blasphemy!

  5. I posted on another thread the issues with pitching... OK, so once again, we have the worst pitching in the majors going by BAA...and it isn't close. One can argue that a better defense could cut that down, but if you've watched any games recently, our opponents are hitting rockets. If you go all the way back to 2011, the highest the Twins have been in BAA is....wait for it....28th! There are only 30 teams in MLB and in the last 7 years, we have been dead last in pitching 4 of those years, 29th one time, 28th another, and there was that one glorious season where we ranked 24th (2010). Total system failure...yes. But let's start with the pitching. The defense wasn't THAT bad in 2010...it is bad now. Fixing the defensive mind farts that tend to happen out there shouldn't be that tough to fix. Fixing the pitching....ugh...is going to take an overhaul of the coaching staff responsible for pitching including the scouting.

Now, I'm no rocket scientist, but it would seem to me that we have a problem in the pitching area. One would think that a GM should probably turn his or her focus to that area of the organization...just a thought.
  7. Well, good to know we have our eye on the AAA crown. Perhaps they will send Dozier down....kidding! Anyway, we have some obvious issues with our pitching staff. I like Neil Allen, but I can't figure out if he's part of the problem or if the issue is down in the minors. I know the jump from AAA to the majors is big, but what do we gain by proving once again that they can pitch in AAA? Ugh. That's what my first reaction was.
  8. Last year when they sent him down, it was reported that Santana was affected by the negative press on him. www.startribune.com/danny-santanas-demotion-shows-the-downside-of-athletes-on-twitter/306667601/ I agree on the plan...the Twins haven't really had one for a while now. I see Esco as a better player than Santana from a number of aspects, but one is that he is a team first guy. I like him in a utility role. He can come of the bench and produce. He can play multiple infield positions and switch hit. If I had to pick one, I'd pick him over Santana.
  9. Yeah, I agree. I know the guy has a fragile psyche. He gets upset when people say bad things about him, but that's not a reason to play the guy. It's like the Twins are thinking they can get on a roll and get back into this thing when they should be focused entirely on the future. Yeah, "one game at a time"...blah, blah, blah. That's great if you are in the hunt. We aren't and haven't been for a long time. There's nothing to gain by playing him in the outfield. If he were a utility infielder, you could play him there, but he's not. It's just another in a long list of head scratching moves that the Twins have made this year.
  10. Well, one little DanSan comment certainly took off. Here is what I would say to the DanSan fans...Is he or should he be in the long term plans for the Twins? My answer is NO! Once again, the season was lost looong ago. So, why play him over Buxton? We know Buxton can hit AAA pitching. I realize he needed to work out some things with the bat, but why not work them out with your best coaches (assuming they are your best coaches) against MLB pitching. You aren't even going to know if he is improving when he's hitting against AAA pitching. Why not have him roaming CF and improving those skills and getting used to playing next to Kepler and Rosario? What are we gaining for the future by playing DanSan?
  11. Ugh...my head hurts...both sides. Would that be bilateral brain weakness? I can't take much more of this.
  12. I know that people like him because he throws hard, but he kind of reminds me of LaTroy Hawkins. Threw hard but straight as an arrow and when they square it up, it goes a long way. It took him about 7 years to figure out that he wasn't going to blow it by anyone.
  13. but they should leave berrios out there.
  14. 6-0 and the slide continues.
  15. I feel like when it is 3-0 in the 2nd inning, the game is over. Is it just me?
  16. Yeah, I have yet to figure out the love for DanSan. I understand keeping Grossman as a 4th OF, I don't see where giving DanSan at bats in a lost season is better than giving Buxton at bats in a lost season. Not saying that Buxton's numbers are as good...just saying that it is a lost season and has been since April.
  17. Agree with moving him to the pen. The issue for any pitcher who has 2 pitches is that both of those pitches need to be "on". If Duffy doesn't have command of his curve, hitters sit on his fastball and that has proven to be very hitable. What he really needs to do is develop a third pitch regardless of whether he goes to the pen or stays in the rotation.
  18. Totally disagree with demoting any young pitcher at this point in the season. Ride it out. Let them take there lumps and learn from it. If anything, I would consider a move to the bullpen to test out another young guy to give them rotational experience in the bigs.
  19. One of the key mistakes that Terry Ryan made was to give long term contracts to guys that were 30+ years old. The numbers will show that guys not named Roger Clemens tend to fall off a cliff at or just a little beyond the big 3-0. That goes for relievers as well as starters. Yet we kept making the same mistake over and over hoping to defy the odds. It was the definition of insanity. At some point we need to cut the cord on the pitchers that are 30+ and go with youth. Rather than sending them down after 1 bad start, we have to ride it out...especially in a season that was lost in April.
  20. No, he's not going to School of Mines. He picked another school.
  21. He's thinking along the lines of internet security actually.
  22. Great intro RB. I brought my oldest off to college last week...big step. Cross the fingers. In South Dakota they have a place called the School of Mines. Not sure how it got that name, but I'm thinking that if they wander off the beaten path, they get blown up. Didn't want to deal with all the aftermath of that so I convinced him to pick another college.
  23. I agree with that last paragraph. The question was, who puts butts in the seats and obviously we don't care if the butts are in the seats in KC or Atlanta or wherever. The reality is that we a locked in for Joe for the next two years and that isn't changing.
  24. It's a long season with many nagging injuries. I think teams that are making a playoff run might be looking for some versatility on the field in order to rest a couple of the regulars without taking a big hit by playing the replacement. Does Plouffe fit that bill? Sure. So, play him at 3rd and 1st to showcase him.
  25. Do I? No. Just saying that kids still get excited when Joe comes to the plate. Parents like happy kids. Does that mean they buy tickets? Dunno, but I can tell you that if their kids do not get excited about going to the park, they aren't buying tickets.
