  1. I don't understand why Florimon wasn't DL-ed given the appendectomy. He clearly is not healthy enough to hit. He is a bad hitter, but not this bad. And last year he did flash a little power and that isn't happening. Get him an injury and get him down to rehab. Escobar is perfectly fine and the Twins could add Nunez's bat or Beresford's glove (and singles bat?) if they want.
  2. It would be fun to envision the parallel universe of Dozier and Mauer in Fenway in exchange for 4 top 8-10 Boston prospects. But Dozier at second right now is working enormously well. I have liked Rosario a lot all along, but he is going to be traded eventually here. I wouldn't do it, but he will be traded.
  3. Polanco continuing anywhere near this production and he will be in AA soon. Rosario is going to be fine if he is fine with his issues. Given that it now isn't clear about LF in the future, there might be more room for both, especially if Polanco can stick at short.
  4. If we assume no new injuries, this is probably correct (with Bartlett going away for good).
  5. There might be something to batting leadoff and Dozier hitting more homers. Rickey-esque?
  6. Two months in Fort Myers, two months in New Britain. Potential September call. Otherwise, June 2015, the Buxton-Sano-Rosario (likely) show starts. To quote Walter from "The Big Lebowski" . . . "nothing is ____ here Dude, nothing . . . is . . . ____."
  7. It's really early in the year so I am not that worried about Nolasco and Hughes. Has anyone looked into how the Twins starters compare to the rest of the league in giving up runs in the 1st inning over the past 4 seasons now? Something seems really amiss with preparation and whatnot, whether it be Nolasco, Hughes, Correia, Pelfrey or Blackburn, Liriano, Marquis or Hendriks, Walters, and Gibson 2013. Are we really going to simply blame the pitchers? Anyway, I am not worrying about Nolasco and Hughes (though I worry about the extra year in both their contracts), but Correia and Pelfrey, obviously, is another story. Meyer is of course going to have a Gibsonesque innings limit (and the Twins will likely screw that up again too) and the more veteran guys they brought in are rather meh. Pray for May (the pitcher, not the month) to at least become a 4th starter this year!
  8. I would say that in the cases where it was a matter of losing people in such way, working out a deal in the last arb year or in the last contract year could have kept them. Extending Dozier beyond 2018 before 2017 seems really risky, for all sorts of reasons. Even if Dozier is very good for the next 4.92 seasons
  9. He is under control for 5 seasons, yet! I would wait 3 or 4 of them and then see about adding a couple years. Sign him now until like 2020 or something? what?
  10. What are they really going to do with their 2 year, $11 million man?
  11. That the pitching coach still has a job is fascinating to me. It was fascinating to me in the offseason when the defenders of Gardy and Anderson came out claiming things like "managers (and coaches) don't really matter." Clearly they do. How can yet another year of horrific starts to start the season (and especially in early innings) be a matter of the pitchers themselves and not something with what is going on in their instruction and preparation?
  12. Punto broke for home while Mauer was actually looking at him from first. Totally bad baserunning.
  13. $11 million for this. Where's Nick Blackburn?
  14. Mastro in to rescue the top of the order! Haha. Seriously, isn't it clear that Mauer-Dozier should be the top of this lineup?
  15. I didn't see the game yesterday. In that final at bat, did he take one strike?
  16. Career leader in doubles in such a scenario!
  17. In fact the Colabello article on this very site makes it clear how Mauer leads by example.
  18. Good interview! More like this!!!
  19. The hysteria is everywhere when a player is making "an unjust" amount of money--the ignorance comes out of the woodwork. I don't know about local media back in the day, but I knew people ("fans") who used to criticize Garnett for not scoring more. As though overall he wasn't the best player or top five players for some of those years. With Mauer and baseball the issue also becomes one of the difference between those who think batting average, rbi, and homers tell the story of a player's performance and those who think OPS (and especially the "O" there) does a better job (not to mention WAR).
  20. Opening day 2015 it better be: Nolasco, Hughes, Gibson, Meyer, May in some order.
  21. James Beresford > Eduardo Nunez That is a legit possibility. I guess it is very likely that Nunez is a slightly better tradeable asset than Sulbaran. That makes the deal, on its own, a good one.
  22. This was obviously after Parmelee, Benson, and Hendriks. I believe the added players were Arcia, Carlos Gutierrez (!), and Tyler Robertson (!). I don't know what number that brought the 40-man up to at that point. Maybe 38.
