  1. It's time for the following to happen: Levi Michael gets promoted to New Britain (time to see, really, what he is made of), Polanco moves to second base and Goodrum back to short.
  2. Herrmann is staying. Tonkin will replace Burton soon enough.
  3. Exactly. Such a retirement that soon after being on the 25-man out of ST is ridiculous.
  4. Good lineup against the lefty.
  5. He continues to impress. Some guys just need to get a chance.
  6. Favorite Twins player of all-time: Shane Mack (hey I was a kid and he had my name) Favorite pizza: pepperoni and banana peppers (shocked that bp hasn't been mentioned yet). My pizza could go to Kevin Love if he promises to never leave the T-wolves, or Ricky Rubio if he promises to leave the T-wolves.
  7. I understand both sides of this. That said, a whole bunch of those pitches were way out of the zone (and down), so laying off of them wasn't a difficult decision.
  8. How many leadoff homers does Dozier have now? I think it may be something with the opening at bat of the game or something. In other words, if he were batting 2nd or anywhere else, it isn't clear that he would still have 5 homers. Certain players like Henderson and Soriano had a knack for leading off the game that way. Maybe Dozier is another.
  9. Precisely. Achter, Guerra, and Oliveros are three good contenders for promotion right now.
  10. The obvious thing to do is to give Nunez the start at short in the second game.
  11. Exactly, and it's pretty frustrating. Now . . . good lord what to get for him. If I were in charge I would trade him and pay most of this year's salary for any mid-tier prospect. Fien and Duensing next.
  12. I suggest you talk to community college students in Indiana (and not in Indianapolis or Southeast Chicagoland). There is real opposition based on race. Anyway, my original point was pretty blown out of proportion. It still seems bizarre to hold the view that a significant (is def. of this word tripping up people?) amount of anti-Obama views aren't based on race. Maybe it "only" amounts to a million people in America.
  13. http://news.yahoo.com/yes-republicans-racist-063434578--politics.html There's some more (linked to in article).
  14. For the record, I generally "oppose" Obama, for my own reasons (not conservative ones).
  15. Yes, clearly. I think some logic lapses are going on here in general. In no way, shape, or form did I say "opposition to Obama is simply racism."
  16. Good lord. Do you guys ever talk to some of these people who so oppose Obama? I didn't say anything about a "majority" or anything. There is a significant portion of that opposition that is based on it. What percentage, for instance, believes that he was born in Kenya, after all? You can call it "slander" all you want.
  17. I absolutely think he is likely about done as an effective reliever, at least in "setup" scenarios. Trading such relievers is pretty hard in the beginning of a season unfortunately.
  18. There have been 13 games this season. Grip . . . get it.
  19. Yes, good for him! Inexcusable by the Twins.
  20. Undoubtedly quite rusty. He's quick enough on his feet and has a good arm, though. Only to happen in rather extreme game situations though (multiple injuries, extended extra innings).
  21. I think the key for both Beresford and Polanco is going to be arm strength for short. Any insights there?
  22. If I were the owner I would merely throw Dozier some more hundreds of thousands before arb kicks in. I know it doesn't work like that, but whatever. Signing him in 2016 or 2017 through 2020 or 2021 makes sense. Not now.
  23. Name: Chris Herrmann Position: LF/RF/C/1B Hand: Left Height: 6'0" Weight: 200 DOB: November 24, 1987 POB: Tomball, Texas Shane's prospect rank: NA (already graduated) 2014 start: essentially MLB 2013 statistics (MLB): 178 plate appearances, .204/.286/.325 (.611), 7 doubles, 0 triples, 4 homers, 18 walks, 49 strikeouts, 0 stolen bases, 1 time caught stealing Herrmann fills a potential "mega" utility role for the Twins by being able to catch, play corner OF, and first base, and also potentially emergency fill-in at 3B and in CF. Perhaps most importantly, he is insurance on the roster for the Suzuki-Pinto duo to both be in the lineup for Gardenhire. The one offensive aspect to like about Herrmann's 2013 performance for the Twins was that his walk rate reminded one of most of his minor league career before AAA. His ISO-D of .82, and ISO-P of .121 mean that if he can strike out less and make more contact (true for every young Twins hitter right now), he will be a valuable utility player with a .675-.715 potential OPS.
  24. Ortiz's early 2014 statistics: AA: 43 plate appearances, .268/.302/.341 (.644), 3-0-0, 2-7, 2-0. Nothing that out of order here, just an early slugging drought. Predictably, Ortiz has spent almost even time in all three OF positions. Given the absence of anyone in the AAA OF other than some Parmelee time, Ortiz might finish the minor league season there and get a September call-up as a extra OF. That's looking ahead, but he is a pretty straight-forward 4th OF right now and the Twins seem to really like him.
