  1. One has to also be aware of the fact that if the Twins pick Molitor, he will likely get the job for two years, even if 2015 is bad again. By then, Dougie could very well be managing another big league club.
  2. 2014 final stats for Aderlin Mejia, split between New Britain and Fort Myers (in that order): 468 plate appearances, .273/.360/.318, 15 doubles, zero triples, and one homer, 54 walks, 52 strikeouts, 25 steals, and 7 times caught stealing. Mejia played all four infield positions this year, but profiles as a middle infielder in the long run. He is obviously a slap hitter with speed, but he does add excellent plate discipline and above average defense. I do like his potential and his age 23 season (hopefully starting at AA Chatanooga) should be interesting with regard to Aderlin's ability to hit for some power . .. or not. If not, his career is in trouble.
  3. There's actually no problem whatsoever with this firing.
  4. I will probably be hated for this, but I do think that the Twins should consider shopping: Kurt Suzuki, Trevor Plouffe OR Eduardo Escobar (not both), Casey Fien, Oswaldo Arcia (I think so, maybe), Eddie Rosario, Travis Harrison (he has no place 2-4 years from now anyway), and Tyler Duffey. I don't want to trade Arcia and Rosario, but something's got to give. I see minimal value in other guys on the roster for trades, and I do not think that the Twins should, in general, be moving prospects.
  5. Yep. Billionaires make the people pay. This is true of everything. And no one does anything about it.
  6. Just some grotesque logic here with regard to the "concussions can happen at any position" line. Good grief.
  7. I have to wonder how the dynamic plays out in general . . . like what influence does a pitching coach have on the decisions made by a GM? Worley should never have been allowed to go and the Liriano situation is totally disgusting. If I were the owner, I probably would have totally cleaned house last year. As in totally, save for some promises to Molitor, Brunansky, Glynn, Cuellar, and Johnson.
  8. By the way, this was also very entertaining to read!
  9. It is really hard for me to come to a clear justified belief on Terry Ryan. I agree with the main direction of this article, but then there is the youth movement and the development there coupled with some very solid moves by Ryan. It's like there needs to be a co-GM or something. A guy like Ryan and then a guy who never lets useless (prospect and talent-wise) pitchers take up so many innings.
  10. Interesting list! Things are shaping up a bit uniquely here.
  11. Honestly, they are 2/3 of the way there in terms of my "this would really improve things, and make me pretty much happy for the offseason." The third part is signing Ervin Santana (we'll say 2/30, or 3/39). I hope that the manager is filled with A) Dougie, or Dave Martinez. I would want Bruno and Molitor to be hired back and for the Twins to go completely out of the organization for a pitching coach.
  12. You are truly always someone I can count on to me more negative then me!
  13. It's a little exaggerated. I don't think I would write off Achter, Darnell, Oliveros, Herrmann, and Pressly. But, yeah 13-14 guys could easily be gone and it would be a good thing. There are certainly 10 guys I would not hesitate whatsoever to drop: Bernier, Burton, Duensing, Colabello, Fryer, Pino, Swarzak, Pryor, Thompson, and Johnson (Pelfrey makes too much money to not get a bullpen trial).
  14. With Hughes, Santana, Gibson, Nolasco, May/Meyer/Milone, the Twins would be properly set at the SP position for the first time since Johan was leading the staff with Radke. This potentially would guarantee two sub 3.80 ERA guys at the top, a wild card for that mark in Gibson, and even a return to "pre 2014 Nolasco" would be quite solid, with the Milone or the prospects doing something.
  15. At minimum, a starter getting a win means he went at least five innings. On this team, that is an accomplishment!
  16. Also, I am a fan of Bruno and Molitor. I was a fan of Steinbach, but this whole Pinto thing and Fryer nonsense has me really wondering. I would be happy keeping the first two, making Dougie the manager, and finding another pitching coach and bench coach.
  17. Bill Smith did do a lot to ruin this team, but the current state still falls on Ron Gardenhire. I do not understand how he gets *any* support. He and Anderson have run this team into the ground. Gardy didn't like Hardy. Anderson (and maybe Gardy) didn't like Liriano. Gardy didn't like Gomez. Etc. etc. How is there no accountability for this? There are players who are going to say great things about the manager. That benefits them in the short-term. The thing that Gardenhire did well during the playoff years was manage the bullpen. He was fantastic at utilizing Hawkins, Rincon, etc. He also had Johan Santana and others who led the Twins to successful years in weak AL Central times. The Twins were, ultimately, the Toronto Blue Jays, but in the AL Central. How a fresh start with a new manager and pitching coach isn't necessary is completely beyond my ability to understand the world. This was true last year. Now it is blatantly true.
  18. While I am astounded by Hicks' apparent disregard for time, I do have to wonder how much has gotten to his head! He has my vote, still, for being with the club out of ST next year. Hopefully Gardy is the one gone.
  19. It is really hard to like anything about this. I have been adamant for two years about this. At this point, giving him a relief role is fine since the Twins are paying him anyway. Ideally, the Twins could trade him while paying 80-90% of that salary in exchange for some player of C-level caliber right now (but hopefully under 22).
  20. Thank you! This was fantastic and really informative.
  21. Not sure why this is unclear. He is likely talking about how the Twins had no real view of building a championship team. I imagine he is talking about being held back in terms of winning as a team. The Twins only real close chance of excellence was in 2010, and even then the pitching was not built for the postseason.
  22. I think the Twins should prepare for the long term in the short term. Neither Hicks nor Santana are going to be Twins CFs in the long term, and Santana's long-term value is in the IF. I would want Hicks in CF, Santana at SS, with Escobar serving as an IF utility man until the Twins realize that they should trade Plouffe. If Escobar is the SS, then you simply decide on the best OF arrangement with Hicks and Santana included.
  23. Totally spot on, Seth. And this certainly is a difficult task. Some of these guys are just putting up ridiculous numbers. Oliveros' situation scares me given this SSS in the majors again.
  24. Yep, to me a no-brainer. I don't understand the Molitor thing at all. He didn't do the requisite things to deserve it. He can be a damn good coach, though. I had thought that Steinbach was the clear front-runner, given the bench coach thing. Dougie is the best choice though. Jake Mauer, Molitor, Bruno, and X pitching coach would fill out an excellence coaching group.
