  1. 23.2 IP, 1.90 ERA, 15 strikeouts, two walks, and a 1.056 WHIP in Fort Myers. Batts didn't come out of nowhere, but he is a surprising bright spot this year as we get to mid-season.
  2. Rogers got hit a bit in his June 9th start, but then turned in a gem on the 14th, going eight innings, allowing one run, and striking out 8. Rogers is basically repeating the same numbers at AAA in 2015 as he did in AA in 2014. This is an encouraging sign, as there are some differences between the two levels, and yet those types of players are the ones he will eventually face in the big leagues.
  3. Three innings pitched since the last update, with five strikeouts and four walks. Strong season so far, with Fort Myers in the near future.
  4. Ortiz is in a bit of a slump, but still a strong .774 OPS. And he has now walked more this year than all of last year, so there's something. And he is now getting ample time in CF, and although he committed his first error of the season, this might be a huge trial run for 4th OF status for Ortiz. The Twins need to see if they have any depth beyond Rosario-Buxton-Kepler so they can consider what to do with Hicks and Arcia.
  5. .649 OPS vs. RH and .872 OPS vs. LH. Granite bats left-handed . . . It is slow going at Fort Myers for him, but he is learning and hopefully he will keep progressing and emerge as a top 25 prospect for the Twins by next year.
  6. .916 OPS in the past week. Maybe, just maybe, he is coming around. He has a .706 OPS for June. Top-ish prospect Nick Gordon also was slow out of the gates (not this bad, but bad) at the plate, but he is getting it together too. What is clear is that 2016 will mean a return to Cedar Rapids to start the season.
  7. Kepler added two more triples tonight. He is having the best year for Twins prospects. I think Arcia has to be traded as well. You don't mention Travis Harrison or Danny Ortiz, but I think all three of them could be shipped off (most likely together with a couple vets in a couple of trades). A 2016 OF of Kepler-Buxton-Rosario-Hicks is pretty enticing.
  8. There are at bats out there for Sano. Both Mauer and Plouffe clearly need more days off. Plouffe is straight up a .751 OPS guy (likely not updated from tonight's game on BR yet, but it is weird to see such identical offensive numbers) and that's good . . . but it is not worth keeping Sano down. And I don't think I need to say much about Mauer . . . A roster (playing time to be worked out) of Buxton, Mauer, Dozier, Vargas, Hunter, Sano, Rosario, Pinto, Suzuki, Arcia, Escobar, and Hicks is possible (with Vargas, Rosario, Arcia, and Hicks splitting time in some fashion).
  9. I have been saying it for awhile. Not sure how this is even debatable. I could not care less about what Arcia is hitting in AAA in the first place.
  10. The only things I know I would do are the promotion of Sano and Polanco in the next month or so. It gets hard with any kind of trade speculation or injury issues about calling up pitchers like Rogers, Duffey, and Berrios. And they keep trying to ruin Lester Oliveros by starting him (what the hell is that about anyway?). I wish that both Suzuki and Pelfrey were tradeable.
  11. "Stats don't matter" makes it seem like they don't indicate in any way how a player is developing. Gross false dichotomy. I am actually alarmed by those saying they aren't alarmed! Stewart looks to me like a poor man's Kyle Gibson and wouldn't be in my top 10 prospects right now.
  12. I don't understand how anyone wouldn't be concerned. This is straight up nowhere near elite pitching performance. His prospect stock has dropped significantly in my view. After last year, there were a lot of excuses being made for him. I bought those excuses, foolishly.
  13. Seriously? He likely ends up being a 4 OF down the road unless the Twins unload Arcia and Kepler. But he isn't one now. One bad mistake . . . sheesh.
  14. I wouldn't buy into this year early at all. What the hell? Tossing prospects or other under-25 guys away for one slugger right now seems a bit silly. Especially when Kurt Suzuki continues to be the Twins catcher. And the second part about relief help . . . what in the hell? Try out the guys you have before trading away some of them for one dude.
  15. I have a hard time actually figuring this out, other than Polanco stays up, Oliveros comes up, Pinto comes up. I think I wait on Buxton and Sano, at least through July. I just wish there was some way that Kurt Suzuki was tradeable.
  16. It would be totally ridiculous to keep Tonkin at AAA. He has to get the real extended look with the Twins for the rest of the year so they can wrap up his case one way or the other. No onto Lester Oliveros . . .
  17. Anyway, this is good. Stauffer has nothing left. He is probably best off not playing anywhere at all the rest of the year and then come back somewhere next year on a minor league dealing to see if some arm rest has helped that velocity problem.
  18. The Twins think they need 13 pitchers because they never ever use more than 10 position players in a game, and usually it really is just 9. Of course Shane Robinson is back to his usual terribleness, so the fact that they don't pinch hit for him by his third at bat is a problem.
  19. I would just recommend that we see Jay start in the minors before ever simply putting him in the top 6-10 in this system.
  20. August 1. Sano, Buxton, Meyer, Polanco, and Zach Jones arrive.
  21. Three games started and four games finished for Rochester this year. Weird usage of a guy who could be a good-very good setup man in the majors right now. Oliveros is delivering a 11.3 K/9 rate and 2.7 BB/9 rate. Not sure how this Duensing and Stauffer nonsense continues.
  22. It isn't clear that I am putting Jay in the top 10 here. That isn't a slight, necessarily to him or the drafting of him. We will say Jay at 11 and Cody at 20. The system is still loaded, you know.
  23. A temporary move might entail the rest of the 2015 season as "temporary" here, with bullpen time with the Twins possible.
  24. Clearly, going old would entail adding at least two old FAs, but that is another story.
  25. Some possible formulations, and a correction, part two: (Plouffe could be traded out and Escobar, I guess, would be on the roster). Anyway, the Old, Old, and more Old: Suzuki Herrmann Mauer Dozier Escobar Plouffe Sano (no way not there in 2016) Santana Arcia Hicks Hunter Rosario Schafer/Robinson/Vargas Hughes Santana Pelfrey/Milone Gibson May Meyer (has to be there in 2016, somewhere) Thompson Boyer Duensing Stauffer Fien Perkins (some shifting in the bullpen could happen with Thielbar, Tonkin, etc.)
