1. I don't hate the guy, but signing him would be rather silly. He is having a good year this year, but he is on the downward slope, does NOT hit .300 hardly at all, and costs $4 million. Chris Herrmann will be the same overall for 1/8 of the price.
2. J-Dog, no "now" he isn't. Going into the season he was. That will change for some people. I had him at 50+ (51 here). But he actually isn't going to jump that much. Take from that what you will--either the Twins are really starved for MLB-ready pitchers, or there is actually more talent in the system than a lot of people know about. Last year's draft was big for that.
3. Guerra and Oliveros might be a nice mix in the middle-late relief role though.
4. I thought Guerra threw a bit harder than that in the past? If true, I wonder what is going on? Also, I wonder if there is a difference in velocity in April-May and July on previously?
5. Rhodes was having some issues and FINALLY Nate Roberts is ready to rock.
6. Assuming he has consistent success and doesn't drop below .800 OPS or go above 1200 OPS (what a range!), I would think he spends 2/3 of 2012 in Beloit, 1/3 of 2012 in Fort Myers, and so on until he is in Rochester by August 2014. I hate the idea of promoting to MLB from AA.
7. Sano is slumping right now. I wouldn't be surprised if September 2014 is more likely.
8. Nice. Adding his AFL numbers from last year (I forgot about that), and DeVries had a very nice year last year.
9. We have to remember that Diamond and Walters are true 4-5 starters, most likely. Thus, they have value, but just because they come in and are the Twins' new best pitchers doesn't mean they are 1-3 guys. That said, I like the confidence and demeanor both of them display on the mound. For what that's worth.
10. I didn't know that is what AFW stood for. That's rather touching. I am confused by all that bothers anyone.
11. E-Town is going to be interesting again this year.
12. The one-stop shop for prospect lists. I have compiled a master using 4 lists before . . . and that was a lot. Great work! And your brief analysis is correct. The (middle) infield has some potential if Levi Michael and Tyler Grimes get it going, Danny Santana continues doing what he is doing, and Eddie Rosario sticks at second. Third base is a big hole unless Sano stays there. Like . . . they got Jairo Perez and Anderson Hidalgo sorta playing those positions. But it is all about pitching. The system is full of guys who could be 5th starters and middle relievers. Other than that, injuries are causing major problems.
13. To be fair, the team thought that Danny Valencia was going to solve the damn problem. I doubt Joe has even been asked about playing third.
14. Herrmann is finally smacking the ball around. In his last two games he is 8-for-9 with 3 runs scored, 2 rbi, and 2 doubles. He already has 14 doubles on the year with his four homers. His OPS is up to .758 even with an abnormally (for him) low OBP. When he gets the plate discipline back (or makes it more prevalent in his approach), the OPS should jump up.
15. He is a legit candidate for the 5th spot.
16. Final standings:
1. Purdue 17-7 .708 41-12 .774 2. Indiana 16-8 .667 30-26 .536 3. Penn State 15-9 .625 29-25 .537 4. Nebraska 14-10 .583 34-21 .618 5. Michigan 8-16 .333 22-34 .393 11. Northwestern 6-18 .250 18-36 .333
Today's games: Penn State vs. Ohio State and Nebraska vs. Michigan State Purdue is the only team guaranteed of advancing to the CWS without winning the tournament. Michigan State is the only other team with a chance. The rest are going to have to win the Big Ten tournament and get an automatic bid. I don't see that happening. The Boilermakers are in a class by themselves in this conference. Next week I will give a final rundown of all of the draft-worthy players, but here are the guys to watch in the tournament (and CWS): Purdue: Kevin Plawecki Nick Wittgren (cut above the rest) Eric Charles Cameron Perkins Blake Mascarello Indiana: Sam Travis (the freshman will get drafted, but he will likely stay another year at IU) Kyle Schwarber Joey DeNato Penn State: Jordan Steranka Joe Kurrasch Nebraska: Michael Pritchard Josh Scheffert Chad Christensen Michigan State: Tony Bucciferro Ryan Jones David Garner Jordan Keur Torsten Boss That's a list of 18 guys who could be in the minors later this year (and add T.J. Oakes) I will be posting more after today's games.

18. Work fast, throw strikes, change speeds. That's the mantra. Twins pitching has generally had the first two down, but much of the time they don't change speeds effectively. Walters was confident in doing that tonight.
19. WHIP down to 1.157 this year and a 7.1/1.4 K/BB ratio. He was terrible in 2010. Without those numbers that year, he is not as bad as it sounds.
20. I am not "giving up" totally on this being a productive season in some fashion. I agree with gmarais that veterans are needed . . . just not fairly washed-up ones in the middle of the season. 1-2 starting veterans (throwing out Dempster's name again . . . though I can't imagine the Cubs not trading him this year . . . but that team is pretty dumb) in the offseason. Pray to Cy Young that Gibson, Wimmers and Stuifbergen are healthy by the end of this year, and that Bromberg and Hendriks take the next step, maybe add one AA or AAA pitching prospect in the Pavano trade that will hopefully happen, add Zimmer, Gausman, or Appel, see how Salcedo, Solimon, Darnell, Dean, Hermsen, Boyd, Williams, and Summers do this year. The Twins have guys in the system . . .
21. I know what the stats are. Clete Thomas has no future whatsoever with the Twins and rightfully so. Tosoni and Benson need to work out there issues at AAA and not be sent down to AA (after being with the TWINS last year, for crying out loud). Benson was great at New Britain last year. What else do they want from him there? Also, Tosoni played for Rochester tonight. What's up with that? They made the decision too late in the day or something?
22. Out of that Angels mix, the player they would move is Torii Hunter, not Trumbo.
23. Bumping this up.
24. How did HE screw the organization? You are not making sense. Furthermore, the organization knew damn well that the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, etc. would throw MORE money at Joe Mauer. You are insane not to realize this.
