  1. Boom. Absolutely. The Twins best starts this year are ALL replacement level pitchers at the league minimum (I swear that DeVries is going to be marginally better than Pavano). Wasted money on replaceable players like that adds up. For the Twins it adds up to Mauer dollars without ANY productions, in fact, it adds up to losses.
  2. They trade Swarzak, Liriano, Burton, and Capps for whatever. 4 mid-high prospects is the ceiling, but that's nice.
  3. And outside of Dempster, it's cheap. $20 million for the entire staff? Dempster 12.5 Gibson .500 Hendriks .500 Diamond .500 Bromberg .500 Manship .500 Slama .500 Guerra.500 Robertson.500 Oliveros.500 Duensing1.200 Perkins 1.550 This depends on Burton and Burnett, for the most part.
  4. Add a FA like Dempster and the arrival of Gibson at the top of this, and there is a totally different rotation than this damn nonsense this year.
  5. What is going on in this thread? First people are incredulous about the stupidity of taking a player with 23 or so million bucks left on is contract given the past three seasons' worth of injuries, including some concussions. Second, saying that Sano is the 1st baseman is not a bad thing, because that is ideally where he will be if not at 3B.
  6. All four of tomorrow's starters are interesting, especially the "bottom" three.
  7. There then is a possibility that by June of 2013, the rotation is: FA strikeout pitcher (oldish, like Dempster), Gibson, Hendriks, Diamond, Bromberg.
  8. Again, Duensing is not a starter. Also, this is what should be in the books for the Twins this year: 1. DL Pavano after this start to rest his shoulder so he comes back and hopefully regains a modicum of velocity so he proves to be tradeable to a team like the D-Backs, Dodges, Rangers, Marlins, or Reds (or Orioles!!--God let's hope that a team like the Orioles has a miraculous season but needs certain players . . . ). 2. DL Blackburn for as long as he needs it, but hopefully he moves to the mop-up role. 3. Continue with Diamond, Walters, and DeVries for awhile. 4. Promote Bromberg to Rochester and give him some starts there. 5. Promote Hendriks 6. Promote Bromberg. 7. Trade Pavano 8. Roll with Hendriks, Bromberg, Diamond, Walters, DeVries/Manship/Deduno/French
  9. And there is Carlos Gutierrez and Tyler Robertson working to be the backups in this plan of mine. I always thought that either Gutierrez (bad on my part) or Perkins should be the closer, but then people argued about "high-leverage" situations. And now I say that this is rather silly because Duensing is the lefty setup man in high leverage situations and Perkins is struggling from poor usage. That 95-96 mph fastball FROM A LEFTY is valuable to end games. And he is signed long-term. They paid Capps a retarded amount. Perkins MUST be the closer of the future, right? To do that would be a GREAT move given his contract. Imagine a 'pen that is: Blackburn/Manship Slama Liriano Guerra Duensing Oliveros Perkins
  10. I cannot stomach some of these comments. My god, Slama has had a VERY LIMITED MLB time and you cannot judge him on that, so just stop. And with regard to option years and being claimed . . . . teams could have done that already . . . With regard to that . . . often too much is made about players being available to be claimed and kept on the 25-man roster and if they aren't claimed it supposedly means something bad about them. First, pitchers can get better. Second, the waiver wire is not really some open market on players . . . most teams don't really want to get deeply involved in such speculation from other teams when they have it in their own organization. Third, the guy is DOMINANT in AAA. How does that not translate in AVERAGE OR BETTER at the minimum in the MLB, man? I am almost a pacifist . . . but if I thought Twins baseball mattered in life or death way, I might Pass-a-fist at the person(s) keeping Slama down at this point. As stated from the get-go Anthony Swarzak is not good. Jeff Gray still holds on, but he still has no future here. Capps is not the closer of the future. Replacing those three guys with Slama, Guerra, and Oliveros is not insane, and in fact seems pretty good. Given things as they are and given that Nick Blackburn is going to be on the roster in 2013 because no other team is stupid enough to want him, why not make him the mop-up long reliever starting now? He probably is an upgraded Swarzak in that role. Swarzak can be traded for a low-A power arm.
  11. Yes, and he can be respected in the 9-spot. I ignored it because of the RF thing, but it is atrocious that the Twins manager doesn't (expletive deleted--can't I just say it?) understand OBP and how it affects the game. If there EVER was a dude for the 2-spot in baseball it is Joe Mauer. Not even close.
  12. C-Dog, I understand the point there. But, my god, really . . . some very limited LF time for Revere in the spring vs. some weird preference for RF for him? A manager who knows anything about baseball should say, "REALLY? No. Get back to LF, which is where you will be most of the time." I don't understand how such a stupid decision could be made there. And even all of that doesn't mean squat regarding the construction of tonight's lineup.
  13. David Bromberg and Liam Hendriks will be pitching for the Twins this year. How Bromberg is not in Rochester already is beyond my thinking capabilities, apparently. Gardenhire and Rantz are equally insane. This team simply needs to end the season with: Hendriks Bromberg Diamond Blackburn (I guess, $5.5 million reasons next year) Walters/DeVries/Manship What is there to lose?
  14. I didn't see it. I had no plans on watching this loss after work, but now I do. And I have been consistent regarding Swarzak . . . and Liriano is not to be used in mop-up roles. Just sayin'.
  15. Span and Morneau . . . then the Twins better get not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 top 20 Texas prospects.
  16. Miguel Sano will be the 1st baseman in 2015. That leaves one year between the end of Morneau's contract and the beginning of Sano's. Parmelee will probably work out.
  17. I think I am going to start drinking immediately to not think about this anymore. It makes me crazy.
  18. Haha. I think by July of 1989 I had become a pretty foul-mouthed 8-year old too. And I liked Frankie a lot, too. I may repressed that memory.
  19. Exactly. Doyle impressed them enough last year and in the AFL . . . so a few appearances in ST ruins that? That's insane and a pathetic way to evaluate talent. And it is just so self-contradictory. I guess the decision was between two of Doyle, Swarzak, and Maloney? Haha. Wow.
  20. Probably not. I assume they want to keep him around at least into next year and furthermore, TR probably is aware that the market is not going to be very good for someone getting paid $14 million NEXT YEAR, who is likely on the DL every other month, who is a mess every September, and who is a concussion away from retirement.
  21. For the past week I have been talking about DHing Willingham a few games a week to get Revere into LF to maximize the OF defense . . . ugh.
  22. Is Revere's smile brighter in RF?
  23. I mean, theoretically some ballparks it could perhaps make sense. But this is just stupid, flat-out. There is no excuse for something bizarre like this. How much has Plouffe even played in left this year, anyway? I mean . . . it's not even as though Plouffe hasn't played RF . . . this must have to do with what? Gardenhire's belief that RF is somehow bigger than LF at Target Field????
