  1. This is what I am talking about with regard to Anderson. Can anyone do a study comparing the Twins pitchers' 1st inning performance vs. the rest of the league in the Anderson era, or at least this year? I remember Radke having 1st inning issues as well. And then settling. Marquis and Blackburn, not so much.
  2. Whining about the number of OF? Who do you want called up? All of those players were used yesterday. Mastroianni is likely the guy sent back down, but it should be a reliever.
  3. Revere and Dozier are going to be Gardy favorites, and rightfully so. I would like to see Willingham DH a few times a week as well as Morneau, with Mauer and Doumit DH-ing the rest. A pretty consistent roster rotation could keep guys fresh, give the prospect Revere 4 starts a week, maintain speed and power balance, and basically keep the guys up, up (it comes down to Plouffe vs. Valencia . . . or Burroughs . . .). Develop every other prospect at Rochester, save for Hendriks (maybe).
  4. So anything going on in the actual game? Can't see it on mlb.tv thanks to Fox.
  5. Yeah, that is a remarkable similarity. Gardy is a little bit Homerish as well.
  6. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=21489259 Some good videos on Plawecki, Mitchell Brown, Chris Stratton, etc.
  7. Thanks for the detailed discussion. Very interesting. I could be convinced about Gausman over Appel and Zimmer, I suppose. I don't care as long as they draft one of them. Stanford hurt Appel's chances. Thanks again.
  8. The Twins will have all sorts of money by not re-signing Pavano, Capps, Baker, and Marquis. They are paying those 4 about $21 million or so this year. That with some arbitration upticks and the payroll might be at $85 million at most? Two things, though: One, the Twins have to commit to several years, and they won't do that. And two, players have to want to come to Minnesota to play. Greinke might be that type, actually, true. But he might get a 5-year deal.
  9. Defend Lew Ford, toss cousin under the bus. Nice!
  10. No mixed feelings here. I despise the mentality of "losing in order to get better draft picks" . . . . and that mentality is folly anyway when talking about baseball.
  11. Who would you rather have on the roster? Another pitcher? A fourth catcher? Mastroianni and Komatsu are there because they really aren't prospects or guys with futures for the Twins (and they bat opposite). There is no problem starting each of them once a week and bringing them in late in games to replace Willingham or Doumit when he is in right.
  12. I am happy for Dean and Leachman as both are interesting players to watch in the minors this year. Leachman could surprise people.
  13. Absolutely. And again, the AAA pitcher gets the job done (marginally) again. Pavano and Marquis the next two days . . .
  14. I am glad for him as well. I really want to see doubles and triples from Revere. I am not sure how the evidence doesn't support Revere being a AAA singles hitter though.
  15. The Brewers' announcers mentioned that a comparable pitcher to Diamond was Cliff Lee . . . that made me laugh. Note: they qualified it and everything, but I still found it funny.
  16. Yeah, it is just that theoretically other than OF depth, the organization has a bunch of MR types.
  17. Agreed. Joe will be sitting tomorrow, then. He's gotta get rest once in awhile.
  18. I don't mean they trade him right now, but hopefully he pitches well this season. Also, is there a way for someone besides the OP to change thread titles. Looking at this butchered spelling makes me crazy.
  19. One has to wonder if Alex Burnett is going to end up as trade bait, given Guerra and Oliveros.
  20. Rick Anderson, in part because the pitching is so completely terrible, but more in particular because has been so terrible consistently early in games. Something has got to be off with preparation and approach, and I have a hard time believing that each individual pitcher is having the same problem independently.
  21. Saturday and Sunday are both day games.
  22. Going forward next week, assuming the health of Span and Doumit, the following looks kinda nice: Span, CF Mauer, C/1B/DH Willingham, LF/DH Morneau, 1B/DH Dozier, SS (this spot in the lineup is where I think he belongs right now) Doumit, DH/C/RF Plouffe RF/3B Casilla 2B or Mastro/Komatsu RF Casilla 2B or Carroll 2B/3B or Revere LF/RF Gardenhire won't do it that way, undoubtedly, but I like it. One fairly optimal lineup for some of the time would be: Span, CF Mauer, C Willingham, DH Morneau, 1B Dozier, SS Doumit, RF Plouffe, 3B (let's just hope that he gets it going) Revere, LF Carroll or Casilla, 2B With speed and defense on the bench to come in late.
  23. I have been wondering for awhile if the author of Granny Baseball, the person who would go by "TT" is here at Twins Daily. It seemed like TT was one of the most frequent commenters on various Twins blogs . . . so I was just wondering.
  24. Pretty much what Travis just said for the 3 days, though I would let Willingham get the day off on Sunday and Morneau on Saturday. I know that means weakening the lineup 2/3 games with Butera involved and one big guy out each game, but it seems simply impossible that Pavano and Marquis are going to self-destruct--the law of averages will likely work against Drew and for Pavano and Marquis. "Man I miss the good ole' days when Cuddy could just slide from one position to the next on a days notice..."--M4Prez You mean between RF and 1B? Because he was effective in RF, adequate in 1B and terrible everywhere else. Trevor Plouffe could fill that role this year--I would think he or Willingham would be the emergency 1B, though it would be funny to see short little Carroll stretching at first.
  25. See now you're just saying stuff. Willingham's RH/LH splits are minimal. He still hits RH pitching very well. Unless you actually find out that in such situations Leyland more often than not elects to intentionally walk the guy, I think you are making WAY too much out of this, which is common for Mauer-bashers. I don't even want to list some possible explanations, but here you go: One, Leyland knows that Willingham hits RH very well. And that he is hitting extremely well, generally this year. Two, Villareal's fastball was damn good and it may not have mattered, at all, who was hitting. They were going to pitch to him. How often do flame-throwers intentionally walk anybody? I know it happens, but how often. Three, maybe since Villareal was indeed just called up, Leyland wanted to see how he dealt with the challenge (of, you know, pitching to an excellent hitter) and to give someone who has struggled a jolt of confidence. I am not going on. I doubt the Twins dugout gave a rat's ass about it.
