    I would argue that Ryan Dempster and Randy Wolf are the two most likely for the Twins to sign, and neither will garner more than 3 years (likely 2). They could probably get both for about $23 million a year for two years.

    That is a very good article, thank you. I think the Twins perhaps should reverse what they have generally done in the past. Instead of college pitchers (after the #2 pick) and high school position players, they should look at college hitters and high school pitchers. Gleeman has said that anyone who doesn't draft the BPA is "almost an idiot" and I understand the argument for taking the BPA. But I don't think it is clear, ESPECIALLY when we are talking about a high school player (5 tools or 4??) who the BPA is in the first place. God, just from the three college pitchers--which is the best? It makes me laugh when I hear BPA in a draft of so many players, especially when comparing HS and college players. When I say that "need" is important I am not talking simply about the current Twins, but about the organization as a whole, up and down. Good starting pitchers, catchers, and third basemen are almost nowhere to be found in a system that generally doesn't trade away prospects, so bringing in players to provide depth where there is none based on need is not idiotic.

    Greinke is getting 5 years minimum ($90 minimum) and probably 6 years and $110 million. And that's crazy. The Twins are more likely to go after a 2 or 3 year deal, as well they probably should.

    Chris Herrmann's updated statistics: 161 PA, .238/.284/.397 (.681), 12/0/4, 10/32, 1/1 This has not been a good start for Herrmann (it's official). I am not sure what is behind the bad BB/K rate at this point, but this is very un-Herrmann like after last year's performance. His power is something to watch, as he is on pace to really improve his doubles and home run numbers. But he isn't getting many singles, so the average is very low. This shift is very similar to what is happening to Aaron Hicks at New Britain, so perhaps they are both working on adding thing to their repetoires. Hopefully. I still think he could move up to Rochester eventually this season.

    True, Jlovren, but he is left-handed. Lefties are a different breed and the Twins have a dearth of them at the moment.

    "Asian guy" and offense to the Marquis de Sade now . . . but really a "nod" to him as though John endorses the actions of Sade? Really? Like . . . really? A nod? More like, playing on words and nothing more. Torture is obviously very relative of a term. LIGHTEN UP. FYI: I tried watching the film version of 120 Days of Sodom (Salo) once. Don't try doing that.

    Oh my. No. He has never been a good pitcher. Ever. Except he has kept his ERA done miraculously this year so far. Now that is no more. NOW is the time to say thanks, but we have other guys who will be a part of the future. Jeff Gray is not part of the future.

    Mustn't put words in my mouth. Yes, he did belong there given the Willingham situation at the time. But I was pretty clear in that most recent discussion that I preferred the Twins starting with Revere in LF and Willingham in RF. You made the claim that he is a "great hitter" which is what I objected to. I quickly pointed out that I like him overall, but I don't call him a great hitter currently. I mean you cannot honestly look at those minor league stats or his major league stats prior to this call-up and NOT call him a singles hitter, which means NOT a great hitter. But I am very glad that he is driving the ball to the right spots so far in this call-up. I want him to keep it going, meaning that he needs an extended opportunity to do so, clearly.

    Now that the blow up has occurred, time to DFA him and not care if some team is foolish enough to claim him. Time to go with guys who might be part of the future, namely Slama.

    Haha, watching the Brewers broadcast on MLB.tv and they just talked about how Go-Go Gomez (who, I swear if he would have been drafted by the Twins and developed the way they develop players, could be a good-great MLB player right now) on his rehab assignment took the low-A Brewers team out to dinners, including "Hooters, where we killed over 100 chicken wings" . . . nice to see the dude smiling after a minor career derailment.

    Yes, Rochester is the best place for him now. I just get it in my head that when someone is this terrible they need to be sent packing entirely. I mean a waste of money either way, right? But, yes. DeVries is next.

    With 13 position players there is a way to do this. Mastro and Komatsu are not top 30-40 (or more) prospects, so they can stay and fill-in in marginal roles (and probably do well in those roles--Mastro, albeit in a worthless game, just made a great play in LF). Hell that was, one would have thought, the reason for Mastro's signing in the first place. Anyway, if Morneau can play first a bit more, they can DH Willingham twice a week, spell Span one game one week, Willingham the next, and let Ben get one start in RF as well once a week. That way he starts 4 games and Span, Willingham, and others get rested. The same applies for Plouffe--play about 4 games a week. I think it is go time for these two. I am sure Revere will be fine, and Plouffe's four homers and plenty of walks are helpful for his cause. Plouffe and Mastroianni also provide emergency backups in the middle infield. If Plouffe fails, then Valencia can return. If he doesn't, then they have to figure out which one brings the most value in a trade (I know it won't be much, but perhaps a more or less major league ready Plouffe or Valencia garners an A ball pitcher with some good velocity--something). I am pretty pleased with the current makeup of the Twins roster in terms of position players (ride the Butera train until it "Mendozas"). The pitching staff, on the other hand, is in need of further changes. DeVries and Walters are likely not really good replacements, but worth it for now. I think Bromberg might be working his way for a shot this year, which is damn good for the poor guy.

    Yeah, they can do that. But they should have already done that. 4-game winning streak and then the game is in the hands of a complete joke of a pitcher. People complain about Mauer's $23 million, but there is $3 million here and $4.5 or whatever with Blackburn . . . FAR worse payoff. The Twins could be 18 and 22 without those two.

    DeVries and Bromberg on call. Marquis and Blackburn need to go away. The Twins have done a nice job figuring out their position players, it is now time to get rid of this garbage rotation.
