  1. And what happens if Ben Revere gets hurt next year or is nowhere near the leadoff hitter he looks like he could be this year? It works the same both ways with injuries. I am slowly coming around to entertaining the Span trade talk, but not seriously until a month from now and then if only Ben Revere hasn't turned into a pumpkin. Other people undervaluing Span are undervaluing the leadoff position and ow important it is to get on base as the guy coming to the plate the most times in a game.
  2. Can you or anyone tell me where one finds comparative statistics by lineup position!? I don't understand how I am not finding those.
  3. I don't know why, with the presence of Jeff Gray, any position player would need to be sent back down for Pavano.
  4. Revere needs to keep this up for me to be comfortable with any Span talk. Capps might bring about as much as Span at the deadline given the need teams often have for bullpen help. I do have to wonder how desperate the Reds might get with regard to Span, however. That lineup with a good leadoff hitter would be pretty dominant. I would still rather see the Twins spend money to get pitching, than trading key components of the lineup and defense for it.
  5. It boggles my mind too. There are other players like Sean Burroughs if a lefty 1st base option was needed . . .
  6. I think Liriano is likely to have a very good-great 2013 with another team. And then a mediocre 2014. And who knows in 2015 . . . and so forth.
  7. Rob Deer's 162 game average: 633 PA, 544 AB, 120 hits, 21 doubles, 2 triples, 32 homers, 81 BB, 198K, .220/.324/.442 Trevor Plouffe's: 577 PA, 519 AB, 118 hits, 29 doubles, 1 triple, 23 homers, 45 BB, 127K, .228/.293/.419 Once his current pace settles a bit, the above numbers are going to be more in line with what to expect with slightly better average and few walks.
  8. I see no reason why Matt Capps wouldn't be viable trade bait for a team looking for bullpen depth heading into the playoffs. Teams always pick off closers to put into setup roles like that. Burton is more questionable. Duensing is also very possible.
  9. Wow there are a lot of things to comment on. About Sano and 3B . . . I would hope that if he isn't the Twins 3B of the future, that he is the 1B of the future next. And there is NO reason to move him over there for awhile yet as making that transition is nothing really to worry about. I am generally with Thrylos on a lot of these moves, though I can see why, if not promoting Herrmann, they don't promote Pinto and Koch at the moment. With regard to Herrmann, greengoblinrulz pointed out in my adopt-a-prospect Herrmann thread that Chris has now played a full season at AA with these numbers: 151gms 546ABs .260/.360/.397 29doubles 5 triples 12HR 67RBI 10/13SBs 84bb 112Ks That is worth noting, regardless of the decline in the BB/K rate and other issues. The power has increased. I would definitely like to see how he does at the next level and there is no worry about him being the full-time catcher at Rochester. And this also could allow for more movement with Pinto and Koch to move up levels as they deserve to do. I would keep Danny Santana at Fort Myers for awhile yet. Albers and Romero, I agree with promoting, but in the latter case the problem is that the Twins sent their two 3B down to Rochester! I would like to see some movement in the system and an unclogging of plenty of "veteran" has-beens (never weres) like Thomas, Roof, et al.
  10. I thought that it was the max too, although someone posted something saying that wasn't the case.
  11. What about enticing Mazzilli with Beloit instead of E-Town as would likely be the case?
  12. Well at least TD contributor Adam Pettersen should get some time at his actual position now.
  13. Chris Herrmann to Rochester. Matt Hauser to Fort Myers are the first two that come to mind. The other ones I definitely agree on.
  14. Yeah, Koch should be promoted, right!? I mean they have to see what he can do against high-A pitching.
  15. Capps and Doumit are almost certainly traded at the deadline. Hopefully Pavano and Liriano can be too (but they might both just be not signed instead). I hope Jared Burton has a market at the deadline too. Not sure if he will, but the Twins getting something back for him would be nice. We'll see about trading Valencia for something as well. I think Diamond will stick at the back end. And Gibson is on pace to pitch this season yet, so there is no reason that at least by June next year, he isn't in the rotation. Maybe Walters fills in during that time. A Dempster-Hendriks-Diamond-Gibson-Bromberg rotation might be what we are looking at by this time next year. A Bedard addition would be nice in there. Hopefully the madness around Slama will stop and he is inserted AS SOON AS HE IS OFF THE DL this year. I would prefer a bullpen of Manship-Burnett (though he could be optioned next year if he isn't this year)-Duensing-Guerra-Slama-Perkins-Oliveros (get the walks down!). Chris Herrmann and Pedro Florimon might be up as well.
  16. Not bad. I would love the Dempster and Bedard additions. Unfortunately, I have to imagine only one of them will actually be signed. I disagree with those who think players won't sign with the Twins. Money speaks. And the Twins are not going to be as bad this year as last and not as bad next year as this. In the AL Central, that might mean the playoffs next year. A Dempster, Diamond, Hendriks, Gibson, Bromberg (we'll say for now) rotation is significantly better than the best rotation the Twins will roll out at any point this year. Plouffe/Valencia is interesting. I think if Plouffe continues doing what he is doing, the Twins are going to have to try to get something for Valencia. Something. I expect Plouffe to be playing third next year, and Carroll/Dozier in the middle. Doumit is very likely to be traded. Maybe Valencia sticks around as a DH, or the Twins play Parmelee/Morneau/Mauer at 1B/DH in a kind of rotation. Chris Herrmann and Pedro Florimon may be up instead of Butera and Doumit, then. I have to wonder if there is going to be a market for Jared Burton at the deadline this year. If they Twins can get anything for him, they have to make that trade. I also don't think much at all of Swarzak. Replacing those two I would have Manship and Slama.
  17. Ouch, that Rochester game is depressing.
  18. Given Manship is fine, I want Gray and Swarzak to be DFAed. They are both not good. Both have viable replacements (Manship becomes long man) when Slama is back and either Waldrop, Oliveros, or Guerra is promoted.
  19. He consistently spouts off about things which he clearly knows little or nothing about. He is close to the Rush Limbaugh of Twins commentary.
  20. Doumit is going to seek money and years. Chris Herrmann may be able to fulfill much of his role (so hopefully they get around to promoting him to Rochester very soon instead of stalling on him). Doumit may be a trade candidate. Plouffe is hopefully making Danny Valencia irrelevant. So RF is still a question mark. Benson and Tosoni were DEMOTED. The system has some OF depth, but the Twins strictly as the MLB team do not.
  21. Some things: bunting is always stupid with a guy only on first. But it is insanely stupid if A: one is down by 4 runs, B: Drew Butera is on deck, and C: if the batter can actually get a hit, esp. and extra base hit. Dozier is smarter than that. Blyleven calling that a rookie mistake is asinine. It's more like a freshman in high school mistake at best. Did Little actually send Plouffe, or did Plouffe do that on his own. I didn't see a wave from Little on the replay. Dempster is very good. Swarzak is not very good. He and Jeff Gray need to go away and I have said that since the beginning of the season.
  22. Soriano is making, a ridiculous $18 million this season, 2013, and 2014! So there is nearly $50 million on that contract. The Cubs are ridiculous like that. They are clearly my second favorite team (and that's a problem!) and they are actually thoroughly worse as an organization than the Twins will ever be. I actually like Soriano for an AL team as the DH and if the Cubs are willing to eat at least half of that salary, someone will want him (Texas, Boston).
  23. Soriano is making a ton of money through 2014, I believe. If they trade him, they are going to have to eat a LOT of the salary.
  24. Also, yes one really can hear way more from the crowd (and perhaps dugouts?).
  25. Yeah, the Cubs announcers do a great job. As is, unfortunately, Ryan Dempster. Which is why I want the Twins to target him in the offseason with some of that sweet, sweet money the Twins have saved this year and will be saving in the future with all the young players and their more modest salaries.
