  1. And I find your liking of Casilla fascinating. He has been in the majors for 6 seasons. His speed and his defense (this year) are all he brings. That's it. Has anyone mentioned Florimon at SS and Dozier at 2B, yet? I would like them to just try out the youth movement, get Dozier playing proper defense, and see what Florimon can do.
  2. Exactly. I posted awhile ago about dumping grounds for Casilla and Valencia. Sticking to the former here, I believe some relevant teams would be Baltimore, Washington, and San Francisco.
  3. Hopefully yes, on the two players part, and no on the AAAA pitchers. AA starting pitcher and AA middle infielder. Both of them HEALTHY and in the 12-20 prospect range for whatever team.
  4. I mean I know such pieces like Rene Rivera, Clete Thomas, and Michael Hollimon are so valuable to have hanging around . . .
  5. Damn, a lot of things to respond to. A lot of good thoughts here. So the top of the New Britain lineup: Hicks, Herrmann, Arcia, Colabello, and Bigley is on a roll right now. I personally would like to see them promote everyone except for Arcia (maybe that's ironic since he is the best prospect . . . but perhaps players like him don't need to bother with AAA). The other four certainly need to advance even that small step, see some closer-to-the-majors, pitching, etc. This is starting to look a little like the New Britain situation last year. You know: Dozier, Benson, Parmelee, Herrmann, and Solarte . . . . how did not promoting to AAA appropriately turn out there, again??!!
  6. Want to know more about the Perez situation. That must mean some sort of "he's a total jerk" thing, right?
  7. Whoa whoa whoa. That's being too rational.
  8. Yes, I agree that the best prospects are in AA and usually jump to the majors because they are that good. This doesn't, well, shouldn't really apply to anyone for Twins, not named Sano (and maybe Rosario, Arcia and Buxton). It certainly did NOT apply to Chris Parmelee.
  9. Top 100, I am sure. Top 50 is pretty close. Also, the AA performance so far might not have been noticed before the list was made.
  10. I don't think there was any need whatsoever to do what the Twins did to Parmelee this year (and Tosoni last year). I do think it does matter where a player gets at bats. If he is overmatched in MLB, he isn't going to improve for quite awhile. If he has already performed well at AA and AAA is at least a bit more competitive/like MLB it would seem worthwhile to give him time in AAA! People seem to forget that Parmelee was NOT great in the minors before that callup in September. He was a good AA hitter. Now hopefully he can be at least a good AAA hitter for a bit (until September, or August if Morneau is traded at the deadline) and make adjustments so that he is actually ready.
  11. Haha! Ulgh, this also makes me feel a little sick. Gardy was going with his "heart" again.
  12. Brian Duensing would have been ideal in that situation, but the damn fools have made him into a starter again.
  13. So the question now is: is there value in promoting quicker out of AA to AAA to get at bats there instead of at the lower level. I can't believe that Revere's time spent in AAA didn't help him become the batter he is today. Wouldn't Parmelee benefit from at least a few hundred plate appearances there?
  14. How about this: is the competition level higher/more like the majors at AA or AAA? An answer to that question seems important about what approach the Twins should have in developing players.
  15. Thanks for the information. It definitely seems different for pitchers and position players. But compare Trevor Plouffe and Chris Parmelee.
  16. I cannot figure out how anyone would want to sign Liriano to a multi-year deal. The Twins absolutely need to trade him away and let another organization deal with his inconsistency. It is troubling that $12.5 million is being talked about for someone who currently has a 5.30 ERA and a growing walk rate. Seriously???
  17. I think there needs to be a discussion about what these two levels are and what they mean for the Twins organization. How many success stories have the been from AA-MLB promotions in the past 10-15-20 years? This is an important discussion because it affects our analysis of minor league promotions and of development in general. From what I gather from some people here is that AA is the true prospect ground an AAA is leftovers and retreads. That seems ridiculous to me, but I want to be educated either way about this.
  18. Haha. Bobby Bo = brilliant somehow. Deferred weirdness
  19. Now I think I gather what you mean. I wasn't referring to your post. That would be interesting if the Tigers wanted to solve the problem!
  20. I don't know what you mean. Yes the Tigers did the Twins a favor with Oliveros and even Nelson. What are you asking for here. Casilla's numbers are readily available and I explained that he was good in 2008 and 2010 and for the second half of 2011 (offensively). He has been good defensively and poor offensively this year. He is likely making $2 million via arbitration next year. There is no way the Twins will or should overspend by $1.5 million when likely getting the same or better value in Florimon or whomever.
  21. And the Casilla defense continues . . .
  22. For a playoff team with a roster spot, they have some value. Casilla provides speed and Valencia provides good hitting against lefties. Think of how even the Twins had the luxury of having a defense-only catcher on the roster in 2010 in Drew Butera. Granted, I am likely not going through teams rosters to see if this same thing applies with 2012 contending teams, but I bet it does.
  23. Yeah, I think Valencia would be better getting away from Gardenhire, absolutely. I think that is the main selling point for him, actually.
  24. I still don't understand why Duensing was converted back into a starter. If someone says "out of necessity" they are uttering nonsense. Duensing was great in his role. Even a joker like Swarzak is better as a starter.
  25. Here are a bunch of players who could see a promotion in the second half. I certainly do not think all of them will and there are likely a few others who will be promoted, but it is my intention to point out some strong performances, even in limited time in some cases. A few of them are likely very soon (Rhodes, Roberts, Atherton, Bromberg) and many others are most likely early August moves if they happen at all.
