  1. I think Sano will be at Fort Myers all year and Buxton at Cedar Rapids all year. I don't think Buxton is going to catch up to him and will likely be a year behind. That means the earliest date of arrival with be Sept. 2014 and Sept. 2015, respectively. Most likely it will be June 2015 and June 2016, respectively.
  2. I am particularly interested in the MI defense of Beresford, Santana, Michael and Goodrum. Are any of the four real shortstops?
  3. Why is the "on paper" discussion even happening? Last year occurred and we can predict how this rotation compares to what actually happened last year. Even if Diamond regresses some (hard to imagine a "dramatic" regression), a full season of him is going to be better than last year. Some people are really under-valuing Worley, who is similar to Scott Baker. Hendriks is bound to be significantly improved as well. After that, it is pretty cloudy yes, but I think they actually have 5th starters now. That was not true for two months last year.
  4. Scott Diamond and Vance Worley are likely both 13-win pitchers. Even Correia could be 10-14 this year. Come on.
  5. It's better, but they simply added players and gave no consideration to anything relevant like statistics and whatnot. I like Angel Morales and wouldn't write him off yet (younger than Hicks and dealing with injury--due for bounceback in NBR), but it is dumb to have him so high. Kepler's low ranking is strange.
  6. ' While I think ownership is a greedy bunch, just like all billionaires (obviously) it is clear that Terry Ryan isn't that type. He has already improved the team. Absent the Correia signing, the Pelfrey addition is not a terrible idea. Looking back on this whole approach, I would have liked to take the Span money and moved that for Marcum and then signed Jurrjens. Marcum and Jurrjens, with the addition of Worley would have made me fully happy. Are you drunk?
  7. This is my top 20 (I am going to provide justification in subsequent blog posts): 1. Miguel Sano 2. Aaron Hicks 3. Oswaldo Arcia 4. Byron Buxton 5. Alex Meyer 6. Eddie Rosario 7. Jose Berrios 8. Kyle Gibson 9. Max Kepler 10. Trevor May 11. Joe Benson 12. Travis Harrison 13. Chris Herrmann 14. Nate Roberts 15. Adam Walker 16. Kennys Vargas 17. Niko Goodrum 18. Adrian Salcedo 19. Hudson Boyd 20. Matt Hauser
  8. It's a fairly terrible list. It's a joke to have Hermsen that high and it is a joke to have Kepler that low. Morales and Pressly don't belong at all either. Boer and Boyd scare me.
  9. I also wish I knew some of this. Fastest seems to come down to Benson, Buxton, Hicks, JD Williams, and maybe Santana. Power seems to be Sano, Vargas, Walker, Colabello and either Wilkin Ramirez (yes) or Deibinson Romero (yes) Best hitter: Arcia, Kepler, Sano, Rosario, Harrison Not sure about much else. I still want to know who is a real shortstop within the system and why the Twins move around players so much. James Beresford might develop into an OK, defensive-first shortstop. But he doesn't play the position enough at the moment to tell.
  10. The Twins rotation at the beginning of last year was completely alarmingly bad. I think people forget that sometimes. Correia may be bad, but he is not THAT bad. He is likely a 5th starter. The Twins didn't even start the season with a legitimate 4 starter last year. They were all bad, bad, bad. Starting the year with Diamond and Worley is in itself a big improvement. Also, DeVries and Deduno were much better than Marquis and Blackburn last year. Don't get me wrong, I want the Twins to pay Shaun Marcum the money he wants to come pitch for the Twins. That one move could significantly alter things chain-reaction style. Also, starting Kyle Gibson in the rotation for the Twins would be stupid. He should be on an innings limit in Rochester until June 1st. I would think, right now, that Pelfrey/Deduno/DeVries would hold down that spot in the rotation until Gibson is June-ready to go 5-6 innings. Until then, I would really throw Gibson 3 innings a game in Rochester and have Andrew Albers (lefty) be his personal reliever. This would keep Gibson at 30 innings and then he would have 100-110 for the Twins. The only reasonable rotation, barring any other additions, is Diamond, Worley, Hendriks, Correia, Pelfrey/Deduno/DeVries. This group is marginally better than the 2012 group as a whole and much better than the April-May rotation.
  11. Well I am sure that there are Indy league players who could make it to the majors if they were given the chance. And Colabello is certainly making the most of his chance right now. But, yeah, he is now in his prime. That's why I think the Twins might want to seriously consider him for the last bench spot this year.
  12. And the Cubs made decent use of him in 2011. 6.8 k/9 out of the bullpen in 33 1/3 innings
  13. Also, Ramon Ortiz would have been nice to have instead of Marquis last year to begin the season. Say that out loud to yourself.
  14. A bit bizarre, but maybe they are rewarding him with a chance. That team has been very impressive this offseason.
  15. Where Nick Swisher goes could keep this possibility open or end it.
  16. Keep in mind that the Rangers have been very, very close to winning twice now. They want a World Series immediately and are likely going to make sure they do whatever they can to win that in the next two years. Willingham is a cheap replacement for Hamilton and Beltre isn't going anywhere.
  17. Willingham and his contract might land such a prospect. I would be fine adding minor leaguers or Anthony Swarzak, et al, to the deal (better Twins prospects for lesser Rangers prospects) in order to get the deal done.
  18. And another potentially important thing is that Colabello has spent time at third base in the past. This was all in the Independent league he was in, but still. He appears to have been bad defensively there, but at least he would provide an emergency backup at the position.
  19. Colabello makes sense to be used in a reserve role for the Twins pretty soon because he is likely peaking now and isn't a "prospect" in the sense of climbing in skill level. I would prefer Colabello to Butera and Escobar on the roster, certainly.
  20. Yes, thank you jay for pointing that out.
  21. I think an average of 1 is the current situation if those five were involved (Correia and Pelfrey may combine for 1). Marcum could be worth 2.5 and maybe Hendriks/Gibson can produce 2. That way the 10 WAR might be reachable.
  22. Still probably my favorite thing on this site. I hope they push Buxton, Polanco, and Harrison to Cedar Rapids, actually. Time for a full season, and Polanco dominated at E-Town last year anyway.
  23. Is this really still going as a two-for-one deal? I said somewhere that the Twins should not trade X number of players for X-1 number of prospects. I like the ratio they have going so far this year: 2 for 2 plus an actual major league pitcher. As far as Olt goes, I would only make a trade for Willingham and see if Plouffe can play LF. I would assume that he would improve the defense over Willingham at least some and the Twins would be adding someone who has been pretty dominant offensively in the minors. It isn't clear that the Rangers are going to really have a spot for Olt with Beltre there now and Gallo there down the road. Willingham vs. Hamilton is definitely not a difference of 18 million bucks!
  24. Well if the AA comparison is true, then I believe we can say that Colabello has dominated that level and should move up to AAA. I do like his RH power bench bat potential for the Twins, though. Even a platoon role with Parmelee if the Twins do the right thing and trade Morneau at some point this season.
  25. Let us look for Shawn Roof and Joe Thurston while we are at it! Bring all terrible fillers back into the system and keep prospects down! Rochester has the following outfielders: Hicks, Arcia, Benson, Ramirez, and Bigley already. If Hicks is with the Twins, that still leaves 4 (that I can think of immediately--is Dinkelman still around?) outfielders.
