  1. I would offer three years to Dempster if he is still around after Sanchez, Jackson, and Marcum. If the Twins really miss out on all four . . .
  2. Thanks, everyone. Some takeaways: it has happened enough to not make it so terribly out of character for the Twins to do again, and some of those cases are pretty hilarious! Guzman!? Given that Hicks isn't going to have to worry much about defensive adjustments, I think he is the guy with the job to lose in ST.
  3. All four of those pitchers are either clearly below replacement or at best replacement level. That means there is no use spending anything on them when Sam Deduno or Cole DeVries could produce the same results. A team CAN have too much pitching when most of it is bad. There is no reason not to try to "overpay" on a one-year offer to Marcum (say $10 million plus incentives) if TR is really stuck on one-year deals (which he shouldn't be).
  4. Does anyone have easy access to a list of players that the Twins have promoted straight from AA? I believe Hicks will be the newest addition to that list (I will explain more in a later thread or blog post). I know Mauer spent a tiny amount of time in 2004 . . .
  5. Dickey would easily be worth the money, but he is not worth the prospect(s).
  6. Exactly. Boston, for instance, wouldn't give up any established pitchers. It's hard to see how anyone else would either given the point is clearly to win in the next 1-2 years with Mauer. I still think 3 top 10 prospects would be required, including a no. 1. In the above scenario I asked for a SS, SP, and 3B. I think they could sweeten the deal by agreeing to pay the entirety of Mauer's 2013 season and then letting Boston deal with the rest of the contract. I guess they could switch out Bogaerts for Iglesias and Webster for Barnes.
  7. Mastroianni is not a great CF. He is good enough as a backup. With Willingham and Parmelee in the corners, it could be pretty bad. CF is going to matter a ton defensively. Hicks has been MLB ready defensively for awhile now.
  8. Rather low to talk about Greinke's mental health history (by the way, if you AREN'T anxious and depressed given the world we live in, something is wrong with YOU!) and "fat 15-year-old girls." All for R.A. Dickey
  9. Did ANYONE have trading both Span and Revere in their blueprint????? I do know that I heard one or more commenters say that throughout the last several months. Of course, one hears just about anything and everything around here. I have to re-think things now, certainly.
  10. Kepler should no longer be below Harrison. Given that I believe Sano will end up at 1st, Harrison is either going to DH or, if Arcia is occupying that spot, be traded down the road. Down the road, though, not anytime soon.
  11. I am sure Hicks WILL play center, but he might end up being best in RF if Benson can get it together later in the year.
  12. The Red Sox are the only team I would consider and that's because of Mauer-in-Fenway. Bogaerts, Webster, and Cecchini.
  13. Dickey is not coming back to the Twins. I guarantee you that.
  14. I was not aware that ERA was the end all, be all stat. The guy barely strikes more people out than he walks and it's all going south. Dempster had a rough 2011, but 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2012 were all very good.
  15. I was assuming that Arcia would be up too. Anyway, a lot depends on Berrios and Kepler, then on people who we don't really know a lot about like Bard. And again, if Rosario stays at second base that keeps him very high on the list.
  16. Pelfrey is bad, but not as bad as Lannan. That is pretty clear. He just looks like a mess out there with a career 1.59 K/BB rate. Good god.
  17. There likely are idiotic GMs out there. If they were all rational, Lannan would barely make more than a minor league contract. Why? Because he is bad. Not Chone Figgins terrible, but bad. There is no reason to bother with this guy at all. DeVries and Deduno would both be better in 2013.
  18. I think that Hicks 2013 would be better than Revere 2013 overall. So this makes the trade, in terms of 2013, a Span-for-Worley swap. A lot is going to depend on the next move the Twins make. If Dempster, Jackson, or Marcum are signed by the Twins I think the team could be in for substantial improvement. Last year after that horrendous start and the pitching meltdown they were really a 75-win caliber team (remember: the pitching was terrible, Plouffe was not utilized properly for awhile, Carroll was in a big slump, Morneau was coming back from a host of injuries, and Parmelee was up and down in a ridiculous fashion. It is possible that a Span/Revere - Hicks/Parmelee swap is actually a good switch for 2013 offensively. The pitching is already better and should get substantially better with just a bit of spending. A plus-.500 team seems reasonable. What that means for the division solely depends on the Tigers and . . . the Royals . . . ?? The other two are not going to succeed.
  19. I wouldn't read too much into Dempster's limited time in the AL last year. Dickey means one top and one near-top prospect, probably. I would rather just spend the same amount of money without depleting the system.
  20. Giving up would mean trading Revere for prospects only. It would also involve trading Morneau for prospects.
  21. And Span? Well no, of course, but the next move after trading away Span was not one that furthered the punting at all.
  22. Not sure if you guys are aware of a potential BIZARRE change in the NFL, but it involves having like 4th and 25 or 30 at their own 30 or something after a touchdown or field goal. It's completely strange to think about a team punting after having just scored. The Twins have just scored and cannot be said to be punting. They are bound to now get Dempster or Marcum, or they could even get both if they go up to 25 million to spend. The 2013 team is already a bit better with Worley than Revere anyway.
  23. Can I have a pipe dream: Hicks, CF Mauer, C Willingham, LF Morneau, 1B Doumit, DH Plouffe, 3B Parmelee, RF Dozier/Carroll 2B Florimon/Carroll SS Diamond I fear a Mastroianni-Carroll top of the order. If Mastroianni is the starting CF, I do think the slowsters top is still the best (Carroll, Mauer, Willingham .. . )
  24. Lord. Michael Bourn is out of the question. And why on earth would the Twins want him?
  25. Even a ridiculous thing like jumping Danny Santana two levels would produce better results than signing Figgins.
