  1. Do we know anything about the level of competition in that Mexican league? Colabello's numbers are alarmingly good.
  2. Let's say that the signings are over! Diamond Worley Correia (I guess) Hendriks Blackburn/Pelfrey/Deduno/DeVries/Walters The fifth starter here is A: holding down the fort for Gibson to join the rotation if the Twins are smart and really limit his AAA innings until June, and B: serving as a replacement in case Correia or Hendriks falters. Correia WILL falter, unfortunately. This is bad and is only moderately better than last year's April starters. This is terrifying.
  3. Adding Jurrjens would make me feel better about not signing anyone legitimate this offseason.
  4. Hendriks will be good enough in the long-term as a 4 or 5 starter and decent enough in 2013 to be a fifth starter. He is simply going to get better. He has the brains and has the capability to be Diamond-esque to some degree. The same CANNOT be said for Correia or Blackburn. Pelfrey is interesting to me to some degree.
  5. I don't mind scraping the bottom if they make one mid-level acquisition. Scraping and then going for just above the scrapings (Correia) is not good at all.
  6. A one-year deal is rarely wrong. But still 4 million? Weird. Anyway, I like adding Pelfrey sans Correia. Now I am a bit worried. Jurrjens is a good choice right now. The upside there is pretty substantial.
  7. Pelfrey is precisely the kind of guy the Twins should have targeted instead of Correia. Jurrjens too. Combined they almost certainly won't equal Correia 2013 salary and so it is a low-risk, moderate reward scenario. Signing Pelfrey, Jurrjens, and Marcum would have been a nice approach. Maybe it still happens . . .
  8. As Denard and Ben go, so shall Justin and Chris? Not being really serious, but I don't think that Parmelee is going to be starting as soon as Sano or someone moves to first base. Also, this would move Willingham to 1B, in theory, freeing up flexibility for either a 3B trade and a Plouffe move to LF or some remedy in the OF involving a trade or prospect.
  9. Is this a joke? The thought of adding another declining utility infielder is making me feel a bit ill.
  10. I like Olt a lot and I actually think the Rangers would go for that trade given the existence of Beltre. They also have Joey Gallo for the post-Beltre years. But I think the Twins should not be in the business of trading X number of veterans for X-1 number of prospects. I would look for Willingham to Texas and Morneau to Baltimore or something, and in that case, neither one before the deadline. Maybe Justin Grimm for Willingham? Schoop for Morneau?
  11. If they are serious about giving Blackburn a chance, why waste another $4.5 million this year?
  12. Yeah, I commented without looking and then looked and realized that Olerud slugged higher and batted lower. Everything else is pretty much the same. AND WAY CLOSER than the Dougie and Kendall comparisons bandied about over the past year+.
  13. Was the EXACT same amount given to Blackburn 2 in 2014 as what Blackburn 1 is making in 2013 REALLY NECESSARY? Couldn't they mix it up any other way!?
  14. Isn't the most apt Mauer-as-1B comparison John Olerud? By far?
  15. Absolutely trade him now or at the deadline. The Rangers are a good fit, but they might be cautious about handing Profar the SS job by trading Elvis away. They might make more sense at the deadline. Of course, if they would willing to part with Olt, then take it.
  16. Yep, just one comment on, I believe, all articles. Have to go to the forum and then it is fine, so it must be a problem in loading them from the front page. Anyway: Windows Vista. Google Chrome.
  17. I don't know the reason why the health concerns are such a big deal for Marcum. I understand it being a concern, but certainly not a worry. The Tigers made a mistake throwing that money at Sanchez. That might end up being a good thing for the Twins in the long run.
  18. 2015 mid-season: Buxton CF Hicks RF Mauer C Sano 1B Kepler LF Arcia DH Rosario 2B Goodrum 3B???? Polanco SS????? With Walker, Herrmann, Santana, and Pinto on the bench Harrison, Rodriguez, and so forth close. Something like that seems plausible. And rather amazing. Some of those guys are obviously involved sooner and with some veterans the team by 2014 should be very good offensively. And with the Span and Revere trades, the pitching is going to be substantially better. That said, given this minimum salary talent coming up, why on earth don't they spend the damn money to get legitimate pitchers right the hell now?
  19. Oh, and about all things Rosario. Eddie as a second baseman is a hugely important thing to consider. As an outfielder he is impressive but nothing special given the Twins depth there. At second he changes everything. Randy probably should have made it. It just gets crazy deciding on these guys at certain point. Again this is a good thing. Last year I STRUGGLED to make a list past 30-40. This year it was very easy and guys were left out. I don't think the Twins are getting enough credit for their draft picks over the past two years.
  20. Good comments/questions. I certainly did forget Pressly, but MLB.com is just atrocious. They have him above Kepler. Pressly belongs in that 35-60 mess somewhere. I am not going to demote Michael significantly after just one season. I tend to like guys with high isolated discipline because that can translate well moving forward. And I don't care that much that he is likely a second baseman and not a shortstop. Why care about that in *this* organization that has big struggles developing at both MI positions. With regard to Slama, it just seems ridiculous to put him anywhere. His case completely mystifies me, so I didn't put him at 20-25 like I was going to do. I did go high on Hicks and Arcia for that reason of being much closer than Buxton. Gibson is coming back from an injury though, so that is the main reason I have trepidation about putting him higher. May might be low, but I couldn't justify figuring out who to drop. Kepler? The upside there is ridiculously high. Berrios was totally dominant this year. But the most important thing to take away from this list is that no. 10 last year was Dozier or so. The Twins top 20 is vastly improved over last year's top 20, and not just because of additions in Meyer and May. Jorge Polanco could be put in the top 20 as well, but I was just cautious about that. Cedar Rapids is going to be the most interesting team to watch in the system this year. By far. I mean it is ridiculous: Buxton, Kepler, Walker, Polanco, Goodrum, Berrios, Bard, et al.
  21. I would offer Marcum the exact same deal as what the Red Sox gave Dempster. That should guarantee him, one would think. Add in an option year.
  22. Absolutely not. The difference between Sanchez and Dempster, Marcum, and Jackson is not that great at all. There's an extra 30-50 million involved for no real apparent reason.
  23. In part this gives others a list of players to make a smaller list from! I keep relievers down a little lower than many others might.
  24. This is under the assumption that no more prospects are going to be added to the system before the beginning of the 2013 season. So here are the top 60 prospects in the Twins organization: 1. Miguel Sano 2. Aaron Hicks 3. Oswaldo Arcia 4. Byron Buxton 5. Alex Meyer 6. Eddie Rosario 7. Jose Berrios 8. Kyle Gibson 9. Max Kepler 10. Trevor May 11. Joe Benson 12. Travis Harrison 13. Chris Herrmann 14. Nate Roberts 15. Adam Walker 16. Kennys Vargas 17. Niko Goodrum 18. Adrian Salcedo 19. Hudson Boyd 20. Matt Hauser 21. Josh Burris 22. Danny Santana 23. BJ Hermsen 24. Alex Wimmers 25. Levi Michael 26. Dereck Rodriguez 27. Jason Wheeler 28. Jorge Polanco 29. Tom Stuifbergen 30. Mason Melotakis 31. Luke Bard 32. Danny Ortiz 33. Michael Tonkin 34. Angel Mata 35. J.T. Chargois 36. Madison Boer 37. Matthew Summers 38. D.J. Baxendale 39. Manuel Soliman 40. Angel Morales 41. A.J. Achter 42. Corey Williams 43. J.D. Williams 44. Lester Oliveros 45. Josmil Pinto 46. Bruce Pugh 47. Chris Colabello 48. Dakota Watts 49. Tyler Duffey 50. James Beresford 51. Tim Shibuya 52. Deolis Guerra 53. Pat Dean 54. Taylor Rogers 55. Pedro Hernandez 56. Romy Jimenez 57. Tyler Jones 58. Logan Darnell 59. Matt Koch 60. Bobby Lanigan Once I got to 35 it became a mess of pitchers. There are about 10-12 pitchers who should differentiate themselves in 2013.
