  1. In fairness to the IP thing, other than WAR (of course), if there were one stat category that I could magically see for the 2013 season, I probably would pick IP for perhaps every one on this staff. That would be informative about how things went. Perhaps the same can be said for the batters and plate appearances.
  2. Exactly right and thoroughly addressed! Hopefully Chris Herrmann steps up and makes having a third catcher on the roster actually sensible. Because it is NOT sensible now.
  3. Hadn't noticed the WBC notes added in there. That's cool. Also, I really believe that your "prognosticationing" could be 100% accurate with that thing and where these guys are going to start. That would be an incredible feat.
  4. Maybe Bigfoot did it.
  5. I do not take these rankings seriously at all.
  6. Rosario as an outfielder is a good prospect. As a 2B, he is a great prospect. I do care about his slugging, but don't care as much if that slugging comes from doubles or homers. There is no disputing what Arcia has done. There's also ZERO reason to have him start in New Britain. I would be flabbergasted if they do that. What on earth is the damn point in doing that? AAA matters, even if some here are right and that it matters minimally. Benson, Hicks, and Arcia should all be in AAA starting in the OF. Full stop.
  7. It amazes me how so many people are wrapped up in instant gratification culture, though, and this applies to minor leaguers who arrive at the Show and are written off if they aren't good immediately. There is no way this kind of attitude existed 20+, 10, or even 5 years ago. Technology is warping our expectations in seemingly unrelated areas.
  8. Seconded.
  9. For me it is the brains here that makes me think Dozier can improve. He has always struck me in that way. He cares about improving and can learn from things. The Twins did him NO favors in 2012.
  10. I have been saying this for maybe months now: --Gibson should likely be on a 140-150 innings limit (really, obviously, pitches count more than innings). --Gibson should be STARTING ALWAYS this year --There are ways at AAA to limit innings as a starter --Gibson can pitch 3, 4, and 5 inning limits in AAA for a few months and the logistics for the Red Wings is not difficult --Then he can be promoted and pitch fairly "normally" for the Twins --And this stays within the innings limit. Addendum: even though the Twins are not the Nationals in terms of contention, I still would not want to see the Twins mimic the 2012 atrocity that was the Nationals org. That was one of the stupidest things I have seen in baseball period. There are ways to manage innings so that you actually have your best young pitchers ENDING the season with you.
  11. Also I agree with *some* that Dozier could be a .700+ OPS player, even in 2013. You couple that with a slight improvement from Carroll and some modicum of defensive consistency from Florimon and it isn't too bleak. I could almost not care at all about that situation--where I DO care about the MI is in AA, A, A-, etc. That's where it matters going forward with Beresford, Santana, Michael, Rosario, Polanco, and Goodrum.
  12. I really don't care too much about paying Carroll $2 million in 2014, even if he is (hopefully) forced into a full utility role. I actually wouldn't mind sending him back out to SS with Dozier getting a chance at 2B, and Florimon in the utility role. Escobar needs to get the stick going in AAA . . . having Escobar and Butera on the roster at the same time is frightening.
  13. Speaking of a September callup, I think that should have been Dozier's only time with the Twins last year unless he started to really heat up in AAA earlier than that. Of course you can rush a 25-year-old if they haven't been past AA by that time!!!! Dozier had things to learn and AAA would have been good for that. And even after the demotion how he wasn't a second baseman the rest of the year is completely beyond my comprehension.
  14. That looks about right except Hicks might sneak up further and they might move Rosario down a bit lower.
  15. Haha, exactly. Everything they did with Dozier last year was wrong. And it was *obviously* wrong, which is terrifying.
  16. Premature. He should spend all of 2013 at 3B.
  17. 125 is a ridiculous number. If they try that, he will be injured. I am happy if Mauer can up it to 80-85 and continue between 70-85 for the remainder of his contract. This would only mean a problem down the road in 2015 or 2016 and beyond if the Twins develop Vargas and company. The development of Herrmann and Pinto will help obviously.
  18. Saunders and Webb are the two.
  19. There is zero reason to really go after any other OF. Brandon Boggs was actually a decent acquisition. Wilkin Ramirez is another internal option. I don't really think much would be lost if Hicks waited awhile. Parmelee has to be worked in enough to matter though.
  20. Whoa. Thanks for this. It is definitely interesting.
  21. Willihammer with the hammer straight on the head of the nail above. Well done. The only question remaining for me is: how much whiskey do I need to drink to forget this whole situation?
  22. I am going down in June or July for a few games so this is very helpful for then too. Thanks.
  23. OK. I am flabbergasted. If the Twins had simply made the Revere traded even for Worley alone, signed Baker to the same incentive-laded deal, and signed Marcum to the same incentive-laden deal while still throwing the flyer at Harden, it would have been a big ass improvement over what actually occurred. Baker at 5.5 million plus 1.5 million and Marcum at 4/4 would mean 15 million HOPEFULLY for one year and some leverage in resigning. That's better than 8.5 million now for Correia and Pelfrey, plus making that $13 million automatically anyway. Marcum is OBVIOUSLY a lower health risk and is OBVIOUSLY a higher upside than Pelfrey. And then it's Baker vs. Correia . . . .
  24. And I swear if I hear one more thing about Carroll's 2014 option for $2 million, I may go crazy. Look at what Nick Punto stole from this team . . .
  25. Point is that the Twins are better served, since they bothered with Correia instead of Marcum (which is just ****ing absurd and a half) and don't seem to care at all about making a real decision to either commit to a sub-75 win season or hope for it (not trading Morneau), by not "Revering" or "Parmeleeing" or "Doziering" Hicks right now. I do see value in AAA experience (and I would have hoped for a bit of that to have come in 2012 for Hicks). Mastroianni and Boggs works for me for a month or two. It should for everyone. Let Jamey Carroll bat leadoff (with Mauer second, obviously).
