  1. Wallace AND Harvin would have been a fantastic combo. Oh well.
  2. The Cedar Rapids rotation matches its position player roster in excellence. That is going to be a fun team to watch (esp. for JC). And if Bard is legit (still have some question marks, but we'll see) and Salcedo and Boer can pitch as well as they can, the Fort Myers rotation is going to be excellent as well.
  3. I assumed that Achter would be with him in New Britain. They're like Watts and Pugh round two.
  4. Maybe this means either Escobar or Clement have proved satisfactory as a last-resort emergency catcher? Or maybe they are going wild and rolling with Colabello?
  5. Tonkin should be in New Britain.
  6. Harvin's 531 YAC (out of 677 total--an ABSURD ratio for a WR) made Christian Ponder a bad QB instead of a terrible one--which he was even with AP. I am not sure that people are really understanding how vital he was. Now if the Vikings are really going to make Ponder the backup or something, then maybe it is a different story. But I am pretty damn concerned about AP producing at 80-90% of his 2012 output and no Percy Harvin around if indeed Christian Ponder is going to be the QB. There's just no recipe for success there. They will NOT return to the playoffs next year.
  7. Good article and a great insight into the kind of character the Twins drafted last year. Both he and Berrios are *really* impressive in that regard.
  8. He has to start out in New Britain, right? I hope they don't bother with keeping him in Fort Myers to begin the year. There is no point in doing that.
  9. I would love the Twins to draft him. He is more likely than not to be picked in the first three, but who knows?
  10. Colabello the dominant Italian so far.
  11. I think it is now a given that Hicks will be a Twin out of the gate and that Gibson will be in Rochester. We'll see if I am wrong.
  12. Spot on about the proper use of Gibson!!!
  13. Berrios in 2015 is not out of the question.
  14. Look, a better way to approach the whole damn thing is probably in terms of figuring out the division of the 162 starts. This is more important than who, what, where, and why. So here goes: Worley 30 Correia 25 Hendriks 25 Diamond 25 Pelfrey 18 Gibson 15 Harden 14 DeVries 5
  15. I prefer Ramirez given the need for a RH bat. But both are better than Clete Thomas, who is an embarrassment.
  16. I like the question you raise. We always see top 10 or maybe top 20 lists for each team, but only done on a national level (and they suck--look at the Twins prospects list on MLB). I would really like to see how the top 30 lists around the league by local bloggers compare to Seth and company. There is something to be said for depth in the system as clearly those lower on lists can suddenly break through in a big way (Polanco, Vargas, Pinto, Herrmann, etc.).
  17. Yes, national writers are not going to be as good as Seth.
  18. I like the list but of course disagree about placing Buxton there yet. I also am amused by the Luke Bard love. I don't see that at all.
  19. Back to the original issue, I do see that Benson could be a 5 or 6 hitter. That said, I do imagine that he will be traded no later than 2015.
  20. Yeah, I would be hella on board with a Hicks-Mauer top of the order. Other than that it just seems like it would have to be Carroll-Mauer. But Gardy's choice might be something like Mastro-Dozier-Mauer. Hicks-Mauer-Willingham-Morneau-Doumit-Plouffe-Parmelee-Dozier-Florimon is actually a formidable lineup. If Hicks is down, I would honestly just put Boggs in there at leadoff. Yeah.
  21. And the "start-skipping" crowd . . . this is someone coming off a big injury, so I don't know if messing with routine is such a great idea vs. a 50 total innings limit over several starts in Rochester.
  22. Yes and hopefully there are two WS championships by then! I am really not sure why there is *such* dispute about the benefits of not playing top prospects out of the gate this year, instead letting them develop (in Hicks' case--there CERTAINLY are a few things he can work on at the plate in AAA, and in Gibson's case--his innings limit) for a month or so. If the Twins had won 80 games last year like I predicted (!!!!), then I would be singing a different tune, I think (esp. with regard to Hicks). That said, Cole DeVries and Brandon Boggs/Wilkin Ramirez are decent replacements for a MONTH.
  23. Have you forgotten how god-awful the starting 5 was last year for the first 6 weeks? This is a significant improvement already. And (to all): fair enough about Diamond. Then it seems pretty clear that Worley-Correia-Hendriks-Pelfrey-DeVries (with Deduno as the 6th) should be the way to go. Hopefully Correia is the 5th best out of that group.
  24. And, yes, the Twins would have control of Gibson for another year. That doesn't mean much given his age, but I would hope that he is here for the long haul, so there is a slight added benefit from chilling and starting him slowly in Rochester, limiting his innings there.
  25. First, I would like to see Gibson pitch a season from April through September for once. There might be some value in that. Let me approach this from another angle, then. I think it would be good for this team to have the future making up a majority of the roster starting after the trade deadline. Gibson is a part of that future. Imagine what a Benson-Hicks-Arcia OF and a Plouffe-x-Dozier-Parmelee IF (with Mauer, Doumit, and Herrmann) would be like to see with a rotation of Gibson-Diamond-Worley-Hendriks-X (I guess Correia?) and a bullpen with Thielbar, Tonkin, Watts, Pugh, etc.?? Wouldn't it be better to see the makeup of the 2014 roster together in 2013?
