  1. Bernier is a strange move since I just don't see the need for an extra infielder given that Dozier is perfectly fine and Jamey Carroll is on the roster. Happy for Herrmann and Colabello though. I originally wanted both to be up with the Twins at the beginning of the season.
  2. Blerg. Mauer is not going to be traded. It is time to finally just admit that. Everyone. And that is the right thing to (not) do. It is time to admit that . . . Anyway, I don't really care how great the return is, but I would try to trade off Duensing, Fien, and Burton hoping for an adequate return (really if one minor leaguer out of the three ends up being a productive big leaguer, that would make it fine by me--I would try for hard-throwing A-ball pitchers). There are replacements available in the system and middle relievers are easy to find anyway.
  3. Darnell isn't going to be ready yet. So . . . is Albers going to just hang out in AAA for 3 more years and waste away like Slama . . . ?????
  4. Albers, Worley, and Hendriks in that order. They probably should have already been going with a 6-man rotation for Gibson's sake, but whatever.
  5. Not sure what to say other than I hope they trade Morneau to move on with their lives. They can even sign Morneau in the offseason again if they want to do so. If Willingham were healthy, he would be gone too. Not sure what they are doing with regard to Colabello, but with a bloated bullpen, this is what is going to happen.
  6. It is at least pretty mistake-free right now and that includes moving around a bit before settling in at short, where he appears to be good. Would like for someone who has seen him to comment on it.
  7. While he has simmered a bit in the past week, Williams has an OPS of 1.062 over the past 4 weeks. Clearly, he needed to repeat--not sure who would have argued against that . . . but now he has been pretty dominant and there is room for advancement up the Twins system with fill-in help at every level above him.
  8. Mejia has been hitting well and still maintains a strong OPS of .772 for the year. He has been a pleasant surprise and will now be on all prospect lists that stretch beyond 25 players, I would think. He is someone to watch in the future.
  9. Herrmann finally homered for the Red Wings and posted an OPS of .678 over the past week. His ISO numbers are still very low for the season, and that is a discouraging sign. He should still be on track for a September call-up. If the Twins are smart and trade Ryan Doumit, however, Herrmann could be up for good in August.
  10. Note: a possibility is trading Morneau with one of the names above (ex. Walker) either this year or next (Morneau accepting qualifying offer or some other 1-2 year deal) to make taking Morneau more palatable for whatever team is interested.
  11. The OF/DH/1B/Bench 1 spots by 2015 and 2016 are going to mean an interesting battle if the majority of these guys pan out. With Arcia-Hicks-Parmelee now, it isn't that impressive and I am not counting on Arcia to be a decent enough OF. Anyway, the Twins will have Buxton in CF and Hicks in RF. Remaining will be 4 spots for Arcia, Ortiz, Walker, Kepler, Vargas, Harrison, and D. Hicks. And possibly Sano if 3B doesn't work out. Then there are guys like J.D. Williams who could make a push, too. Sano sticking at third is damn HUGE for the future. That is a very important thing and it must be something the Twins have to focus on in the offseason and spring training. Hopefully he does too.
  12. I agree. I really don't understand the waiting with him here.
  13. Williams has gone off in the past week, with a .538 batting average and 1.400+ OPS. He hit a couple of triples in the week. His season OPS is now at .861 and he is flourishing in Buxton's absence. I have to wonder how much longer the Twins are going to keep him down in Cedar Rapids.
  14. Even though Mejia has had problems in the past week, his 2013 FSL numbers are very similar to his 2012 GCL numbers. The Twins may have found something here. He should finish out the year at Fort Myers and then they can see about New Britain next year.
  15. Herrmann has only one hit in his last 16 at bats. He is really struggling again. I see nothing other than a September call-up in the future this year (Pinto to AFL).
  16. I would rather test the market for Burton and Duensing.
  17. I imagine Wiccans only watch baseball if it is played out in the woods at night and with wands.
  18. What the hell am I saying? I would gladly play SS for the league minimum.
  19. Defense is going to be the priority at SS when the offense has Sano, Buxton, Rosario, Mauer, etc. An OPS around .700 would be a luxury. I think James Beresford might be the guy at some point next year. But I am not complaining, at all, about Florimon.
  20. The Twins needed to find a way to DL Willingham awhile ago because there is likely something wrong. I think he is still going to have value, because I can't imagine that this BA is going to stay so low. If that comes up, the rest pretty much looks in order, aside from the expected decline in homers. The return is not going to be great. It might be good enough though. I already blogged about this.
  21. Pelfrey might have been worth something if he was in EST until mid-May or so building arm strength. Now there is no value to be had for him. People thinking he can be traded are not being realistic in the slightest. And signing him next year for $4 million? Wha????
  22. Great job! It's important that these players get attention. Minier is exciting.
  23. Willingham being traded would help this out immensely. Wait on Morneau until the last possible moment at the deadline and then see . . .
  24. Have to wonder what that is about Herrmann. The Rosarios are both impressive.
