  1. The Mets are looking for players. Shipping Correia would be nice . . .
  2. I would spend on Gallardo in a heartbeat.
  3. The time to figure out the players who will fill in around Sano, Rosario, and Buxton started awhile ago, and yet the Twins have done little to figure it out. Willingham, Doumit, and Morneau do nothing for the future and I cringe when I think about all of them being with the team next year. Arcia and Dozier have made it, though Arcia is a borderline DH and Dozier at second base is a problem given Rosario. It would seem to me that Parmelee and Colabello need a full tryout, and it might eventually be a good idea for Plouffe and Parmelee to form a platoon (look at those L/R splits) together at first or in right. I would think that Escobar is going to simply replace Carroll for awhile in 2014. The pitching situation cannot be remedied by bringing in another Correia or Pelfrey type. Spending on Johnson, E. Santana or someone like that and then figuring something out around that FA signing is what I would do. Meyer and May need to arrive sometime next year. Hendriks needs to be pitching for the Twins the remainder of the year.
  4. He's Manny Machado lite. I think right about .290 with 10 homers and 35+ doubles a season for him.
  5. Well I don't want the Twins to repeat the mistake of 2013 and sign 5th or 6th starters at multiple millions of bucks. Go big (or biggish) or stay with those already in the system. Hendriks is still very young
  6. Well that "move Mauer to 3rd" crowd is going to need to move Sano somewhere by June-ish, so . . . But in reality, I would hope that Sano pushes Plouffe to where he should be--platooning *somewhere* with Parmelee.
  7. More Pelfrey talk. Why on earth will/should they re-sign Pelfrey instead of ACTUALLY just letting Hendriks pitch? Pelfrey has pitched as poorly as he ever has (really has been consistently bad his whole career), turns 30 in January and will have already fleeced the team for $3.5 million ($4 million minus the $500K for a just as good if not better replacement). There is no justification, on any planet, to resign Pelfrey at all. Gibson, Correia, Diamond, Deduno, Worley, and Hendriks can thumb wrestle in ST and the loser can head to AAA for awhile. Only one of them makes any real money.
  8. It's really troubling to consider that two of Morneau, Willingham, and Doumit are going to be around next year. Three is, of course, mindblowing. I would choose ZERO. Let Mauer catch 75, and split the rest (hopefully 75ish) between 1st and DH. There is no room for Willingham AND Arcia. There certainly isn't room for those two and Doumit. I would rather see an OF of Herrmann-Hicks-Parmelee with hopefully a healthy Mastroianni for platooning, and a Mauer-Colabello situation at 1B (with Parmelee and Romero being considered as well). I say let the youth (plus Colabello) get some time before Sano, Rosario, and Buxton join them instead of having all of these aging, depleting, decaying veterans who aren't going to be around after next year. The parts AROUND Sano, Rosario, and Buxton have to be figured out. Arcia and Dozier are the only non-Mauer players to secure something, and the one is a bit scary in the OF and the other is occupying Rosario's spot at the moment.
  9. Shooting for 2012 numbers in terms of games behind home plate should not be out of the question for next season. Sidenote: Is there some purposeful obstinacy going in here?
  10. It's scary to think that there is a short leash, but I think that had to do with the $9 million thrown at Correia and Pelfrey this year. Going forward, I have a hard time imagining much of a difference in 2014 performance between Correia and Hendriks. There is a $5 million difference, though.
  11. I don't think anyone is actually making baseball judgments solely on WAR. I don't even look up the stat all that often. But the attitude towards it from some reminds me of old people in the early 90s and the internet.
  12. Matt Hauser started out well this season and then . . . whoa. He is talented, though, and is probably a guy they want to see more of this year. Watts has already been and is probably someone the Twins already think of as near-ready. BJ Hermsen would get smacked bad in the AFL. Hauser and Dean, for sure. Maybe they push Kepler. Otherwise . . . Levi Michael. I cannot remember if A.J. Achter went last year, but he would be another good choice. So I can think of four.
  13. My apologies . . . I consistently forget that Beresford is an Aussie and will play winter ball there. I wish there was a way to get around that. Anyway, there is little justification for doing anything with Buxton besides starting him next year at New Britain.
  14. Buxton should not be in the AFL. What's the point of that? The AFL isn't a place for prospects like that since Buxton has nothing to prove. James Beresford? Something to prove. Matt Hauser? Something to prove.
  15. It's easy to forget how young Hendriks still is. He's 16 months younger than Gibson.
  16. I would start 2014 with Doumit gone and Pinto and Herrmann on the roster.
  17. A .320/.410/.450 Mauer catching is more valuable than the exact same stats as a first baseman, given the same amount of PAs. This is just not to be disputed. Yet, it . . . is??? Anyway, clearly there would be more PAs with Joe playing much more first base, and I would expect that his performance might improve, so that the stat lines wouldn't be the same. It's a tradeoff. I think the Twins should return to something like 2012 in terms of where Mauer plays and how often. Herrmann and Pinto should be capable of filling in (Doumit trade this offseason please).
  18. The WAR argument here cracks me up. How is this (positional issues) STILL not understood????
  19. I think he is going to be around for a few years at least. He and Pinto should provide a good LH/RH situation at C for the Mauer ease-off of that position.
  20. About that day thing . . . . nevermind
  21. I did not see the play. What on earth happened?
  22. While it may be true that Morneau is a marginal improvement over some current first baseman for teams looking at the playoffs, A: that's what teams are often looking for as they head into the playoffs, and B: perhaps Morneau is more than a marginal improvement over the last two guys on the bench for one or more of these teams (maybe true of all of them?). Someone would take him and the some 50%+ of the salary for either a decent prospect at the lower levels or a lower prospect at the higher levels.
  23. Revere slugged .363 at NB, so Santana still has that on him even in the absence of homers. Revere made up for that with a high amount of steals and Santana is . . . .getting there. At least Danny is in the damn middle infield. Another season starting at AA will be good for him. Beresford is ahead of him.
  24. I wouldn't send him to the AFL. That place is often for some players who we might have legitimate doubts about at least one aspect of their game. Not the case for Buxton. He starts at AA next year and that is fine with me.
  25. You do a great job with this affiliate.
