The thing about Palacios is SS long-term fit and which direction he goes if it doesn't work out--2B or 3B? The 3B route is highly preferable, even with Sano.
I almost want to put Taylor Rogers on the ballot just because he could have been top 6 if things didn't fall apart for him in August. He was cruising along at a solid pace in AAA. I still think big things could come from Jorge.
Boom Boom, I am lukewarm about Walker getting an opportunity this September. I mean, it isn't going to happen, but I don't know if I think it should either. But I will say that I think Walker could learn something from watching Sano and Mauer every day.
I would call up Pinto as emergency catcher instead of using a 40-man spot on Fryer again. I would call up Berrios because that should have been done one or two weeks ago. I would call up Beresford to reward him for toiling away in this system, and to show him off to other teams in need of second base help next year. I would consider Hamburger too. Making 40-man room is easy to do. Wheeler has no business being on it, for instance.
Like, what? Forget September, how is Vargas not up for this series? I don't understand your post here at all. He has been *batting* great (one key point in the article above!) even if the batting average is "only" .282. How about last night? Chris Herrmann pinch hit for Byron Buxton for Christ's sake! Vargas has posted a .908 OPS in the minors this season. How is he not on the roster as this team tries to make the playoffs?
Berrios seems like a quieter version of Sano--confident, intelligent, mature, and dedicated. I said awhile ago that it might be worth lightning in a bottle kind of risk for the playoffs to start Berrios. I don't think the current starters are playoff material. You know how this goes. The Twins could never put a rotation together even in the Johan days that was built for success in the playoffs. Berrios is exactly that type. Josh Beckett 2003 . . . etc.
This. I think this is absolutely in order. Obviously, that kind of money for a middle reliever (let's not set the bar too high) is terrible, but the money is going to be spent.
And with trades and other departures, there are going to be 10-12 spots if needed. Time to actually get serious about a proper 40-man roster now that contention is a real thing.
Other than O'Rourke, I want none of those pitchers around in 2016. Nunez and Robinson have to go too. Herrmann as well if the Twins actually find a catcher out there.
They have to want Pinto and Santana to get some at bats. One or both might be DL-replacements for the playoffs (you never know when Santana's speed could come in handy).
Dean and Darnell are getting it done. That is unexpected. I am not sure what to do about them. Dean hasn't been this good in five years, and Darnell is now pitching better as a starter than as a reliever.
