  1. Rogers was sent to the AFL to continue to start and stretch out those innings even further (to 200). He is going to be starting in Rochester.
  2. 1. Is going to turn around significantly this year. Mauer will post an OPS above. 800 this year. 5. Arcia is going to explode. Same thing, .800+ OPS. Mark it eight, dude.
  3. In no way, shape, or form should Pat Dean be added UNLESS he is moved to be a lefty specialist out of the bullpen.
  4. Murphy's upside is average catcher. They could have signed Soto instead for equal performance, though Soto has some power. Anyway, this Sano to the OF stuff because we love Plouffe is totally ridiculous. Why mess with the team's best hitter at this age? Plouffe is declining in value. Anything after this off-season is likely "selling lower" so why not just do the right thing now? Why is it, honestly, not blatantly better to have one of these scenarios: Rosario-Hicks-Arcia (with Robinson or Ortiz . . . as 4th OF, while waiting for Buxton and Kepler) or Rosario-Buxton-Hicks, (Arcia DH, Sano full-time 3B, while waiting for Kepler). instead of: X-Rosario-X (where there Xs involve some combination of Sano, Robinson, and Arcia, while Plouffe stays with the team). ????
  5. Yeah, I almost think Duffey should be number two on this list. The reason is because he was actually quite dominant while coming out of the "second tier" of Twins pitching prospects in 2015. That is the kind of thing that can happen with prospects, jumping from 15ish to near the top quickly (which is why long lists are valuable!). Anyway and regardless, this is a good article. Add Duffey and Buxton and there are 7 real things here.
  6. Yes, this is quite clearly *subtraction* isn't it?
  7. Well, defense matters too. Hicks is likely better than all three defensively.
  8. Sure. There's Dozier and there's about to be Buxton (more slugging than usual CFs). And Park. And Sano. I still think that OBP is more important than slugging anyway.
  9. This stuff about being a "corner OF" is way the hell overblown. If other sluggers are present, and you actually have a big-time offensive CF, one doesn't need to worry about slugging coming from the corner OF. I straight up do not understand. Rosario isn't going to be a slugging corner OF either. And neither is Kepler. All of them are likely to be solid all-around players who are above average offensively and good to excellent defensively. This "corner OF type" stuff just blows my mind.
  10. The Liam Hendriks situation is pretty illustrative. Stop throwing risky money around and start cycling through marginal starters.
  11. Darnell and Rogers have struck out enough guys to be successful, potentially. Rogers would likely see an uptick in velocity, and if used more simply against lefties, he could be a high strikeout guy.
  12. Yes, this is ultimately the issue. Aside from total leeriness we should all have about trading away CFs, this trade is clearly subtraction given other possible alternatives. I wonder if there was some waiting to see if AJ was interested in returning, and then given the writing on the wall about his return to Atlanta, Ryan was willing to make the trade . . . that the Yankees apparently have REALLY wanted for some weeks. Buxton, Kepler, and Arcia all have some question marks around them, especially with regard to good and solid production in 2016. But now, to me, it would seem all three of them have to be involved the entire season for any real hope (a bit less of a season for Kepler). Unless Mauer .800+ OPS happens (seriously that would be vital).
  13. Ryan was apparently devoted to non-subtraction, though, right? Even Thrylos' suggestion of Brayan Pena would work out better here. There just is no reason to give a Shane Robinson type 100+ PA with this kind of OF depth. Couple that with the potential addition of Sano as an OF defensively and yikes. A lot of subtraction so far.
  14. No. 2, without a doubt.
  15. Absolutely sure. They have to be thinking that Garver OR Turner will be ready in 2017. If both, they would deal with figuring out the best two of the three (my money is actually on Garver and Turner).
  16. I heard another rumor that the Twins could have semi-platooned Hicks with Arcia or eventually with Kepler to maximize the bejesus out of RF.
  17. I heard a rumor that there are other ways of acquiring a catcher than trading away one of your young players.
  18. I get the impression that when unexpected things happen, Ryan panics and starts making moves haphazardly. Clete Thomas hits left-handed . . .
  19. Fangraphs is all over this trade calling it a nice move for the Yankees. Highly dubious offensive potential for Murphy. This team has had an irrational hatred for Hicks for three years now. And it is IN LOVE with Plouffe. Haha, Robinson-Rosario-Sano as your starting OF, folks. Arcia-Rosario-Sano offers some comedic elements on the other side as well. Oh, the possibilities . . .
  20. What the hell is going on? Who cares about OF defense in Target Field? Your starting CF for 2016 . . . Shane Robinson? Now, it had better be Buxton. Good lord.
  21. Sidenote on Palka: the guy is just going to be a AA guy with power and speed right now. He was 29th or so in the D-Backs prospect list. This translates to 35 or so for the Twins. He is not going to be involved for the Twins in 2016.
  22. A grip, for everyone, is needed. 1. I like Plouffe. If there were no Miguel Sano, I would keep Plouffe for another year at least. 2. Miguel Sano is here and he has immediately shown that he is ready to dominate. 3. Moving Sano from a position that he has worked on *for years* in the minors to one in which he has never played is a *ridiculous* way to handle him when there is no real need to do so. 4. Plouffe, still with no. 1 above, is an above average player, but he also might be in the decline phase. He was good in 2014, above average in 2015, and probably will be above average in 2016 and even 2017. 5. From 4, certain teams are going to want him. The Angels are clearly one team. If the Brewers want to be remotely competitive any time soon, they are another. The list almost hits double digits just with regard to third basemen. 6. From 4 and 5, there is likely quite a bit value to be had for Plouffe and second-tier prospects (which, in the Twins system, borders on the first-tier for many, many teams). A catcher would be the highest priority. Or *two* legit bullpen arms. I would only try trading for youth, however. 7. No one is taking Nolasco right now.
  23. Depends on what they do with Murphy, Duda (could trade), and if they sign a new SS. Wright is always going to be an injury question mark going forward too. It's conceivable that they think of Plouffe as a younger version of Cuddyer, but in the infield.
