  1. Well, sure, the Twins could go into the year with a loaded roster. Hicks Mauer Sano (RF) Park Rosario Dozier Plouffe Non-Suzuki Catcher Escobar With Arcia, Suzuki, Santana, and Vargas/Pinto I prefer trading Plouffe though.
  2. A real question is how much Plouffe, Polanco, Vargas, and Stewart could bring back in a trade. Trading Plouffe straight up is going to be worth a good MR type.
  3. Yeah. I am more interested in the "young catcher" route. The Twins are most interested in the AJ route. Throwing money now at a declining catcher on top of these other contracts is not going to happen. It's less likely than a three-team deal for Lucroy.
  4. I said a package involving Plouffe, for the record. That could involve some mix of Polanco, Stewart, Garver, etc. I just mentioned Plouffe because there is a likely hole at 3rd base for the Brewers right now.
  5. The flippant nature of these comments is something else.
  6. I think this is generally right. I have mentioned Greinke simply because he would likely really consider a comparable deal from the Twins. Gibson is then a tradeable asset to go along with Plouffe and Milone (Nolasco trade isn't happening). I have come to the conclusion that the Twins should be converting some of their next line of starters into relievers because A: there is little room in the rotation, B: starting pitchers are simply better than relievers, for the most part, C: a reliever with three plus pitches can be dominant, and D: I think spending money on relievers given all of this is dumb (Jepsen is *not* going to work out nicely in 2016). I know that *clearly* Taylor Rogers is a starter in this system right now (AFL???) but I can imagine him being dominant out of the bullpen, for instance. Burdi, Peterson, Reed, Rogers, and Perkins looks like an interesting playoff bullpen to me.
  7. Berrios will be an "ace" (even though I dislike the term because it makes for weird thinking). That said, I do think the Twins should make a run at Greinke. I mean . . . good lord . . . people around these parts are willing to toss $60 million at declining Matt Weiters, why not double that for Greinke and just trade for a younger catcher (signing Greinke would make Gibson easily expendable to go with Plouffe, Polanco, and Stewart)?
  8. Right. I just mention Plouffe because the Brewers have a hole at third. Plouffe, Arcia, and Stewart. Gibson would be another potential candidate, as would Garver (to give them a AA catcher back).
  9. A package involving Plouffe for Lucroy, or a package involving Polanco for Plawecki seems preferable than a 4 year deal at $15 million per for a guy with reduced arm strength, poor pitch framing, health concerns, and position concerns?
  10. I am not sure how that means anything. In fact, how does that do anything but support the concern that his defense is in decline?
  11. Are some people not noticing the last three seasons defensively for Wieters? I am confused that there is this much hype at 4 years and $60 million. That seems like a *crazy* thing to do.
  12. This is just not going to happen. And I don't think it actually should either. Willihammer's two posts above articulate all of this clearly.
  13. Even though Santana was never as a high of a prospect as Aaron Hicks, he always seemed to me to be on the same kind of development track. That means, don't skip nuthin'. 2014 would have been full AA. 2015 would have been full AAA. Now, if you look at career MiLB numbers and his career MLB numbers, they are close to identical: Minors: .276/.319/.399 (.717) Majors: .278/.309/.401 (.710) And I think that is what he is. If Escobar has issues this year or gets hurt, this is ok. Or if Santana is a long-term utility player, this is ok too. I actually think Santana could be a better defensive third baseman than shortstop or second baseman because there is so little time to do anything but react with instincts. And he has the arm for it.
  14. Didn't catch this earlier, but Felix Jorge turns 22 next January.
  15. Get him some time in LF and 3Bover winter and his speed makes him a nice super utility player who you don't mind starting for a few weeks if there is an injury.
  16. My Meyer comment above assumes the Twins don't trade multiple starters in the off-season. Like . . . three of them.
  17. Meyer and Chargois potentially coming out of the bullpen ahead of Perkins is a fantastic possibility. I do think it is time to just stick Meyer in the bullpen and call it a day. It's his best bet anyway.
  18. For what it's worth, the only players I am interested (and who have value) in trading in the org are: Trevor Plouffe, Kurt Suzuki, Tommy Milone, Josmil Pinto, Kennys Vargas, Casey Fien, Kohl Stewart, Travis Harrison, Levi Michael, and Danny Ortiz. Catcher, setup man, and top 10% starting pitcher are the only real MLB positions I would be interested in getting, anyone else being prospects.
  19. It's time to really get serious about converting some of these minor league starters into relievers. I mean this ranges from Pat Dean to Taylor Rogers, too. Rogers has multiple pitches and hits 92-93 with regularity. That could jump to Trevor May velocity in the bullpen. As a lefty. Duffey *might* end up there too.
  20. Are we really sure that Sonny Gray is even *that* good? Berrios could be better than Gray by 2017. Or at least quite comparable. And he's, what, 4.5 years younger? Look, the money is tied up in Hughes and Santana. You have to see if they can revert to previous form. Then there will be Gibson, May, Duffey, and Berrios. Any pecking order of starters that doesn't go like this seems wrong. All sorts of pitching matchups happen in the playoffs. Kershaw and Price have had some real issues in the playoffs. The key has to be to get there first. *Use. The. Young. Talent. You. Already. Have. And. Keep. Your. Future. Intact * - something does have to happen at the catching spot (but this is about pitching)
  21. Rosario-Buxton-Hicks. Any other OF is indefensible.
  22. I agree with you about the mismanagement here. Molitor continues to make bizarre mistakes.
