  1. I got some new shoes this week. I was having hard time getting the shoestrings in place until I got some new glasses. They’re the greatest spectacles in lacing.
  2. And now France swings like a pendulum do!!!
  3. By the way, I read that Hrbek turned 65 this week. I think he should receive more credit for his heroic efforts to prevent Ron Gant from getting injured in a horrific fall.
  4. The thought of Diamond hurling for three innings makes me want to hurl.
  5. Also raining cats and dogs here in Kansas. I just stepped in a poodle.
  6. Rocco hasn’t improved in terms of his willingness to use Durán in the seventh since he’s been installed as the closer. He’s been very consistent in how often he’s done it over the past three seasons — once each year. In other words, it’s wrong to imply that Rocco has used him in the seventh with any regularity and that he’s needed to improve in that regard.
  7. In both of Sands’ saves, there’s more to it than just saying he was the next choice because Duran wasn’t available. His first save was in the second game of the doubleheader. Not only had Duran pitched in the first game, but so had Jax, so he wasn’t available either. Sands was the best of what was left after using the top guys to nail down Game 1. in his second save, Duran wasn’t available but Jax was. However, I think Rocco played it more by situation. Jax didn’t get the save but he was the one who got the top of the lineup in the eighth. Sands then got the save by pitching to 5-6-7 in the lineup. I’d argue that Jax was the more trusted one.
  8. Concur. It's only May 17. As long as he stays healthy, it's very likely he'll be up by the All-Star break or sooner for someone else's injury anyway. Or even as an easy swap if Matthews isn't stellar. When you consider that SWR is being demoted, it's incredibly rare to have only had 15 days of IL time from any of their starters at this point in the season. I checked one time and on average, we're at something like starter No. 8 by this time already. At the most, service time is about No. 10 on the list of considerations.
  9. I sometimes drive through Mankato for work and I can't help but look for the Happy Chef.
  10. For big games, crowds would be huge. A couple thousand at times.
  11. Probably that a fly ball to the track, a double off the wall and a smoked grounder doesn't count as dominant. I'm definitely going to the pen.
  12. The Elkhart/Mishawaka area nearby was one of those hotbeds for Class A and above as recent as when I was a sportswriter in the '90s. Some of the area RV manufacturers were big sponsors. It's tailed off and a friend just said there's nothing here, but thinks there might be some C league teams about 90 minutes away in Michigan. Perhaps some D league teams in Indianapolis.
  13. Shirts are available on his Web site. It would be awesome to wear one to a game and see what conversations it brings about with people. https://kingandhiscourt.net/shop
  14. Never got to actually see him. I remember posters of him being in some nearby town when I was a kid, but we were always baling hay or something.
  15. What? I scrolled through seven pages of comments and no one has made an obligatory comment like, "Was your clue that he wouldn't buy anything that wasn't in the day-old bread section"? I guess I'll have to do it. Was your clue that it was Falvey that he wouldn't buy anything that wasn't in the day-old bread section?
  16. Did they just show Ryan flipping off the crowd when they were showing him "visualizing how he wants to release the ball"? And to be clear, it wasn't a vulgar expression. They just showed him extending his arm and flipping the wrist in his throwing motion, but it looked like he had the middle finger extended.
  17. Are you already campaigning for Correa? Caitlin Clark?
