  1. Well said. The funny thing about Appel was many scouts were saying he was not only a #1 or #2, but that he could be in the majors the same year he was drafted. In fact, I can't remember who it was...Law maybe suggested that Appel could be more signable if the team agreed to put him in the majors by July 1.
  2. I would definitely have a stat guy in AA taking these metrics down. BA, slugging, etc. by pitch type. Guessing we already do that.
  3. He has a cannon. I give you that. He has not looked as fast as this 5 tool guy I have heard about for years. But his routes and angles have been at times terrible. His DWAR over basically a full season is +.3, and that is at a premium position. Meaning he probably gets more than +.3 credit simply because he plays CF. His UZR in CF was negative in both 2013 and 2014, -12 in total.
  4. He has played 23 games. If I was to project the last 10 games it would be even more ridiculous. I was responding to the notion that we needed a hard and fast rule on BA in 23 games. The fact is, he has 11 extra base hits in 23 games. That is really, really good.
  5. I was irate we didn't take Appel. I am slightly less irate now.
  6. I have not seen superior defense out of HIcks. He should be superior to Arcia in LF or Hunter in RF, but compared to the average OF he has not lived up to expectations defensively.
  7. I am not setting hard and fast rules for his BA. On a 162 game schedule, he is on pace for 21 HR, 21 2B, 35 3B, and 35 SB. That is elite.
  8. Dunn was the type of guy that either walked, k'd, hit a HR or 2B. Not a lot of slap hits the other way or groun outs to short. I have made a similar point in the past, that Sano may profile as that type of hitter versus say a Miguel Cabrera, that is going to hit .310-.320 while hitting 35 HR and 120 RBI. He just isn't going to be that type of guy.
  9. I think it comes down to Terry's view on his offensive development. Because you could argue that he would be an above average defensive CF and a menace on the basepaths right now. If he keeps hitting in AA anything like what he is doing right now, I think he is up by about July 1 at the latest. On a side note, when Buxton is up it becomes pretty difficult to see how Aaron Hicks gets reps on this team. So it was telling to me that Rosario got the call over him.
  10. In a month he will have about 50 games at AA. If he has an OPS that starts with an 8, I could see him up.
  11. When will Buxton be called up? He is ripping up AA (.880 OPS, 3 HR, 5 3B, 7 SB). We have seen Terry move position players quicker, like Santana, Vargas, Arcia, and Hicks. We have a need in CF. And I think they would love a little extra buzz this year. I think after the super 2 deadline he is up.
  12. I think he has sort of figured out low A. He needs to be promoted. Clearly his two pitches are good enough here. Maybe a higher league will force him to mix in other pitches. 8 starts last year in CR. 36.2 IP, 3.19 ERA, 44 K. 11 BB. 4 starts this year in CR. 27 IP, 1.33 ERA, 38 K. 3 BB.
  13. If he sticks at 3B with those numbers, the oWAR will be much higher. Dunn was a corner OF, then DH and 1B for quite some time. Sano does have 5 errors already this year though.
  14. He only has 7 BB in his last 3 starts (15.1 IP). 19 K's. If he stays in the 4 BB / 9 range I think he is going to be a really good pitcher. I am encouraged by the lack of BB's the last three starts.
  15. I think we have to be careful about the negative Dunn comp. The guy hit 462 HR, 35th all time. 40th all time in BB's. 135th all time in slugging, 150th all time in OPS. 6 seasons of over 40 HR. 10 of over 30 HR. 8 seasons of over 100 BB's If Sano put those numbers up at 3B, he would be 15th all time in slugging for 3B and 6th in HR's. If that is his floor, we should be in for a good ride.
  16. Outside of different results, I am not sure what makes him a 2.0. I haven't heard a peep about attitude or work effort. I hope he has changed. But we should promote him. Buxton is on fire at AA. The window of reps is not huge here.
  17. I get it. But the flip side is by the time we have enough evidence, we may have Buxton, Arcia, and Hunter in the OF. It seems like a recipe of giving up on another talented player too early, who could play well somewhere else. I would bring him up. I am OK with giving up on Schafer or Robinson.
  18. Here are his splits so far: RHP 56 AB .286/.349./.464/.813 LHP 27 AB .296/.424/.556/.980 http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=hicks-001aar&type=bgl&year=2015
  19. He is 25 now. + He gets one more shot up here to see if he is part of the team. + His window for playing time could be 60-90 days based on what Buxton is doing in AA. + The guys he would be replacing are not good and have a zero percent chance of being a solution here. = bring him up.
  20. I also thought that was odd. Not like a big league player going to low A for a start.
  21. I am guessing you are aware why he is not in my book.
  22. I think it shows the depth we have.....but the high end guys are starters, CF, 3B, and SS. And my gut says Arcia or Vargas will lock down DH for a long time. As an FYI, you don't want to draft on need at 6. But if you have guys that are graded about the same I would take a corner OF or catcher over say a CF or SS.
  23. I don't think the K's and BB's are that weird. It tells me that he is not going to be a Cabrera type player. He will profile more like Adam Dunn. He has a good eye at the plate, but when he offers he really goes for it. What you see a lot of are K's, 2B's, and HR's.
  24. What is the depth at catcher and corner OF?
  25. May, Pelfrey, and Hughes have a better ERA and WHIP. But when you look at guys under contract, performance, and future with the club Milone is the obvious candidate. I don't neccesarily think the contract piece should be as big of a factor, but it is.
