  1. Blankenhorn continues to tear cover off the ball. ETA at Fort Myers, May 1st?
  2. Yes, after I posted that I read elsewhere (Keith Law I think) that he throws both and sometimes they run into each other. Thank you for responding though Jeremy. Going to be a tough call between Greene and McKay (assuming nothing changes, which it almost certainly will). Does McKay have a decent chance to be a number 2 starter? I've heard he is unlikely to be an Ace.
  3. By "skeptical" do you mean you think he/his parents are lying about his age ?!?!?! I really hope not. Or (I hope) do you you mean that you are skeptical that he is being overhyped just because he matured early, and others will catch up to him, relatively speaking? If the latter, I'd just point out a couple of things: (1) he still throws the ball 98mph with ease in his 5th or 6th inning of pitching, which nobody but maybe a handful of 24 to 29 year old major league pitchers in their prime can do, and (2) IF YOU ARE RIGHT, that means he's ahead of his age cohort in terms of maturity and getting used to his adult body, making him more likely to make it to the majors quicker than a normal high schooler, which is all the more reason for the Twins to take him given their window of contention with many of their young players may start to close after 2021.
  4. Is it really a slider? I've heard in other places it is a curveball. What gives? Does he have both? see, e.g., http://www.minorleagueball.com/2017/3/1/14766552/2017-mlb-draft-profile-hunter-greene-rhp-sherman-oaks-california
  5. That is a hell of an exciting roster. Didn't realize Jay was on the DL. Bummer.
  6. I know it is only spring training, and stats don't mean much if anything, but man Park deserved to make this roster. He clearly put in the work AND performed. If he continues to obliterate the ball at AAA they better call him up ASAP.
  7. This is how I'd do it. For Righties: 1 - Buxton 2 - Mauer (1B) 3 - Dozier 4 - Sano 5 - Kepler 6 - Rosario 7 - Park/Grossman (DH) 8 - Castro 9 - Polanco For Lefties: 1 - Buxton 2 - Dozier 3 - Sano 4 - Park (1B) 5 - Grossman (DH) 6 - Kepler 7 - Polanco 8 - Murphy 9 - Rosario
  8. Good to see Gonsalves is pitching again. Hope that shoulder is ok.
  9. Gonna disagree with you guys here. (1) he looked like he bounced pretty hard on his right shoulder even if he was initially parallel to the ground. (2) Buxton is moving much faster there than you were in softball (sorry, no offense) or even than the average outfielder. Force equals mass x acceleration, and Buxton (de)accelerates more than the average outfielder when he hits because of the speed he is going, and he weighs about 30 pounds more than someone like Billy Hamilton. That being said, I am NOT advocating he take it easy or not dive for balls (within reason - gotta be careful at the wall). I'm just saying, there is reason to be anxious.
  10. Here's the video of the Buxton catch: http://m.mlb.com/video/v1243685283/mintor-buxton-races-back-to-make-great-diving-catch/?game_pk=510005 Yeah, that was amazing, but scary. I don't know if I can handle the anxiety of these types of catches for a full season.
  11. Seth, any word on Gonsalves' shoulder? Really concerned about that. Great to hear on Kohl Stewart looking sharp. Ynoa is definitely one to watch and someone who could see his prospect status shoot up by the end of the year. Will he start in Cedar Rapids or Elizabethton do you think?
  12. Yeah, uggh. Well, that sucks. All of that being said, let's hope we see him in the Twins' bullpen by July.
  13. Any word on Gonsalves' shoulder? So very concerend about that right now.
  14. I really really think Hughes should start in the minors or in the bullpen. Let's not just send him out there when he's not ready yet, and he's not. It isn't like Hughes never was a reliever before, and he was actually pretty good at it. His FB will play up there. My starting five: (1) Santana (2) Gibson (3) Santiago (I criticized them keeping him, but now that decision looks a lot better) (4) Berrios (5) Mejia Duffey, Rogers, Hughes, Chargois, Pressly, Kintzler and Haley in the pen.
  15. Seth, do we know why Thorpe was out for two full years? Was it his age and the Twins just being cautious, did his TJ surgery just not go very well, or was it something else? I'm very glad to hear he is back and at it, but two years is a heck of a long time, especially for a developing pitchers, so I just think we need to be very patient with him and have realistic expectations, especially in the short to medium run.
  16. First Kirillof, then Gonsalves (still hoping for him), now the coup de grâce. Goodness gracious what the hell did the Twins do that upset the baseball gods so?
  17. Watched the game today and must say Garver looks solid on both sides of the ball. He looks like a future average starting catcher, which these days is a valuable asset indeed. Looking forward to a Garver/Castro platoon, even if it likely won't happen until mid-season. Imagine having both a RH and a LH catcher on your 25-man who can each play average (for the position) or better on both sides of the ball. What a privilege that will be after the last 4-5 years.
  18. You are far from the only person to say this, but I don't see any indication he can't handle the position for at least a year or two, if not longer, depending on his weight control. It seems pretty clear Molitor and Falvine are going to try to keep him at 3B if it is at all pasable. Otherwise that is one more soft bat in every lineup (i.e., Escobar or Adrianza).
  19. Obviously Mauer should be platooned routinely. With Grossman and Vargas and/or Park, Mauer should almost never be hitting against lefties. I'd like to see a bench of: Garver or Murphy Grossman Escobar or Adrianza Park With Vargas at DH and Mauer at 1B. I know they won't do that, because it doesn't provide enough defensive flexibility in the outfield, but I wish they would. It would work better if we had a better defensive fourth outfielder like Granite instead of Grossman.
  20. I'm trying to remind myself it could be worse - this could be Berrios, May, or one of our pitching prospects that is almost major-league ready - but still this hurts.
  21. Yeah, I guess I don't know enough about starting pitcher arm care and routines. That's why I suggested 2B, since it would minimize the need to strain the arm, and obviously he wouldn't play there the day after he pitches. Just seems like a shame to waste his bat. Maybe he should be drafted by a team in the National League, ideally.
  22. I know this is insane but . . . what about Greene being a real two-way player? By all accounts he has the talent, the athleticism and the makeup to do whatever he puts his mind to. I'm just saying, imagine it is 2021 or 2022, and Travis Blankenhorn is your second baseman against RHP (he can't hit LHP for ****), but Greene pitches every fifth game and platoons at 2B against LHP . . . Just saying. I know the chances of this are less than 1%, but still . . . how cool would that be.
  23. Any reports on how his shoulder is doing this spring? Hopefully he has no lingering issues with it.
