  1. I'm not doubting he has the upside to be #4, just the injury history makes me question that high a raning. It seems like Javier has been injured for much of the season the past 3 years. Kiriloff was just one year with a discreet, albeit substantial injury.
  2. A good list, but giving Javier the #4 spot at this point, after so many injuries and missed seasons seems a bit ridiculous to me. Happy to be proved wrong.
  3. What an ass hole.
  4. Duran and Alcala should be switched and most of the AAA pitchers and Arraez are a bit too high. Do appreciate the love for Balazovic though.
  5. A little strange to discuss Kepler's shortcomings and underperformance of expectations without at least mentioning how his Babip. has been exceedingly low year after year despite at least decent LD drive and hard hit rates. Not saying it necessarily means he will break out and improve (there may be other reasons his babip is so routinely low), but it is a very noteworthy fact we should be discussing.
  6. My offseason plan: (1) Trade a 10-20 level prospect for Justin Smoak - $8 million 1 year option (2) sign Eduardo Escobar, Asdrubal Cabrera or Marwin Gonzalez to a 2 or 3 year deal at about $10-12 million a year. (3) Sign Jeurys Familia, David Robertson or Adam Ottavino to a 2 or 3 year deal (Robertson only 2) at about $10-13 million a year. (4) Trade or non-tender Grossman - + $4million (5) Sign Corbin, Keuchel, Ryu (4-5 year deal), Charlie Morton (1-2 year deal only) or AJ Happ (1 year deal only) for up to $25 million a year for Corbin, with progressively less for the others. At most that is $54 million added for 2019. I'd also like to see Berrios and Rosario extended. Versus RHP (1) Polanco (SS) (2) Rosario (LF) (3) Smoak (1B) (4) Sano (3B) (5) Cave (DH) (6) Kepler (RF) (7) Escobar/Cabrera/Gonzalez (2B) (8) Castro © (9) Buxton (CF) Versus LHP (1) Polanco (SS) (2) Rosario (LF) (3) Sano (3B) (4) Austin (1B) (5) Garver (DH/C) (6) Escobar/Cabrera/Gonzalez (2B) (7) Astudillo (DH/C) (8) Kepler (RF) (9) Buxton (CF) Others on the bench: Adrianza (to start - Gordon would ideally take this spot mid-season if he hits better at AAA) Starters: (1) Signed FA or Kohl Stewart if FA not signed (obviously prefer to avoid this). (2) Berrios (3) Gibson (4) Odorizzi (5) Pineda (if healthy) or Romero Relievers: (1) Signed FA (2) Rogers (3) May (4) Reed (5) Hildenberger (6) Drake (7) Vasquez
  7. If they spend $103 million this year that would be spitting in the face of Twins fans. I can't believe they would pull that kind of horse ****.
  8. I mean, last year Darvish was the #1 FA and they were seemingly relatively close, and this year they have even more $ than last year and there are more big name free agents to draw the big boys' attention, so it's not entirely crazy. I could imagine them getting close on Corbin (much less likely on Kershaw). My free agent starting pitcher preference for multi-year deals would probably go: (1) Kershaw (if he opts out) (2) Corbin (3) Keuchel (4) Price (if he opts out) (5) Kikuchi (6) Ryu (7) Morton (8) Cahill (9) Eovaldi (10) Happ - only on a 2-year deal though.
  9. Walker at age 23 in AA had a 34.8% K rate, whereas Rooker also age 23 had a 26.4% K rate. A 8.4% K rate difference is a lot. That being said, there is a decent risk Rooker has the same issues Walker did. We will have to wait to see how he adapts to his second go at AA or first go at AAA. Walker's K rate spiked to 38% in AAA.
  10. Time to promote Brent Rooker? In the past month he is hitting .302/.433/.583 (1.017) with a 19.2 K% and a 19.2 BB%. The Ks have come way down of late, and the BB% up. I say let him finish the rest of the year at Rochester, and if he does well there, have a call up.
  11. I still think Kepler is being undervalued. His defense (by both Fangraphs and Baseball Reference) has been a big positive this year (among qualified RF he's second to Mookie Betts in defensive value on Fangraphs), and he's been worth 1.5 fWAR (second most among Twins hitters now that Escobar is gone) and 1.9 bWAR so far this year. If you look at total fWAR (i.e. including defense and baserunning), Kepler is 13th among qualified RF. That's not too shabby. Also, and I think this is critical, he's always had a surprisingly low BABIP despite a pretty good batted ball profile (lots of medium and hard contact, little soft contact and on the lower side for infield fly balls), but this year it has been ridiculously low at .246 BABIP. That makes him 151st out of 161 qualified hitters. And most of the ones below him on that list are sluggers who hit lots of high fly balls that are caught when they are not HRs. This BABIP has to at least be somewhat bad luck. If he even just had last year's BABIP of .276 (itself still quite low), he'd probably be hitting around a .770-.780 OPS and worth well over 2 WAR at 2/3 of a season. I'm not saying Kepler has lived up to his potential, but I definitely think there is still a good chance he breaks out further. The BB and K rates look great, and his defense has improved a lot. And his numbers against lefties have improved. Once he gets even close to normal luck, he should be a well above average right fielder.
  12. Any update on Graterol's injury? Must not be too severe since I've seen very little discussion of it. Also, any word on how Wander Javier's surgery went?
  13. Since April 18th (one month), Rooker's numbers are .265/.306/.471 (.777). Since 5/7 (last 10 games), his numbers are .273/.313/.523 (.835). Good stuff.
  14. But i'm pretty sure if you look at his batted ball profile overall it doesn't suggest he should have a low BABIP. This year league average BABIP is .295 and batted ball profile is 18.3% soft, 46.9% Medium and 34.8% hard. This year (before tonight's 0-4, zero K game) Kepler's BABIP is .259, and he's hitting 15% soft, 41.6%, and 43.4% hard. And his infield fly ball rate (8.2%) is also lower than league average (10.5%). So according to his batted ball profile he should have a higher BABIP, not a lower one. Whatever he is losing against lefties, he should be more than making up for against righties. He's not. Kepler is just getting really unlucky.
  15. Kepler's BABIP continues to dip. He hits it hard. Dude is just getting ridiculously unlucky.
  16. Dude keeps getting injured. Unlucky as can be.
  17. Well some of us thought it was a bad idea to extend him in the first place, so this basically just strongly reinforces our prior views that he is a mediocre manager.
  18. Yeah, I thought so too. Not sure how they can get him then.
  19. Urbina is the third ranked international prospect for the 2018-19 period, according to MLB.com: https://www.mlb.com/news/2018-top-30-international-prospects-list/c-273511500?tid=151437456 His MLB.com scouting report says: Sounds like a great get, but probably pretty expensive. Here is a facebook-based video of him from when he was 15 (he turned 16 just in the last few days): https://www.facebook.com/BaseballAmericaMag/videos/10155483689823719/ From the video he seems to be well bulit but still lean and to have pretty athletic movements. But that's just me as a lay scout.
  20. Oh hey, look who is leading the league in fWAR for all pitchers: https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2018&month=0&season1=2018&ind=0
