  1. I think you mean Nick Senzel, not Scott, no? Also, on the substance, why not lefty Joey Wentz? Are you down on him, or are the Twins? A lot of people have him going before 15. Would you take Lowe over Whitley if Lowe were available? Would the Twins? I'll take my answers off the air. Thank you.
  2. ugggh, this is either going to be bad (sent to the bullpen) or terrible (injury), isn't it?
  3. Yikes, other than Wade and Cedar Rapids, one of the most depressing days in the Twins system.
  4. WANT. Where did you hear the Twins are interested?
  5. Easy, the Padres. Perpetually having top picks but never having even decent teams for much longer than the Twins have lacked decent teams.
  6. This was good. Thank you for a nuanced, carefully reasoned take.
  7. Eric, Seth, Cody, Jeremy, Does anyone know what is going on with Nick Gordon? How severe was the concussion? Are we talking Morneau/Mauer level (severe), Buxton level (medium), or very minor? Anything you are hearing would be great. There seems to be very little info on this and it has me quite concerned. He was having some error issues in the field (he's 20, so not a huge deal), but he was starting to really hit. It would be a huge bummer if this turned into a lost season for him.
  8. Seth, you made the right call. Has to be Wade over Palka. Here is why: 2016 BABIP: Wade: .356 Palka: .446 Not only does Wade have a higher OPS, Palka's is being heavily fueled by luck.
  9. This is the heart of it, right here. It is unreasonable not to agree with this 100% imo.
  10. Agreed, he deserves some more starts. So put Gibson (who has been dreadful) in the pen for a few weeks. See if focusing on a few innings brings him back up to his norm. Or trade Nolasco and he can get those deserved starts somewhere else. Throw in a C or even B prospect and get him off the books. I'm just so sick of losing with veterans. If we are going to lose, at least do it with the young guys who have the chance to struggle and learn and reach their potential. That way maybe we won't have to lose with veterans again in 2017.
  11. My biggest problem was not necessarily with them sending him down (although as you see below, that is a problem for me too), but pulling him when they did during the game. It made zero sense and will probably mess with his confidence, which is the last thing he needs. But in addition to that, why can't he pitch for the Twins now? Really, why? Because Milone and/or Nolasco might have to go to the bullpen? Who cares. Milone, Nolasco and Terry Ryan's ego are the only ones who care. And I frankly don't give a crap about any of those three things. Sorry. What's best for the Twins over the next couple years is to give Meyer a chance to be a starter AT THE MAJOR LEAGUE LEVEL, where he can struggle with the difficulties of it and show that he is or is not ready to be a starter. That's all I care about. Not some 5th starter's ego, and certainly not Terry Ryan's. A quality GM wouldn't care about those three things either.
  12. Serious question. Did Jose Berrios show himself "near ready to pitch in a MLB rotation" when he gave up 5 runs in 4 innings on 2 BB and HBP on April 27th, or when he gave up 5 BB in 5 innings on May 2?
  13. Turns out the answer is hitting a bomb in his first AB of the game.
  14. Here is what I don't get about Buxton. I understand that the majors are a step (maybe a huge step) up from the AAA and certainly AA. I really do get that. I get that pitch recognition matters at the MLB level more, because the pitchers are more precise and the average pitcher is coming at you a few MPH faster. But its not like Buxton went from being a .800 OPS hitter to being a .680 OPS hitter. He went from an .867 OPS in the minors last year (and .872 in the minors for his career) to a .555 OPS in the majors. He went from being dominant to being terrible on the offensive side. It has to be at least partially nerves or trying too hard or something he's doing different at the major league level. Otherwise it doesn't make any sense. Or at least that's what I'm going to keep telling myself.
  15. While I am absolutely thrilled with Turner's hot start (more so than any minor leaguers other than maybe Meyer and Stewart), I think it is a little early to say he has figured it out at the plate (just as it is a little early to give up even temporarily on Murphy). Give it another couple of weeks of the same for both and I'd support calling up Turner in a heartbeat.
  16. All you haters are going to eat your words when Pat Dean and J.R.Graham start dominating.
  17. Actually, I checked this on Baseball Reference, and you are correct. It may just be a SSS then. But he could still be a decent long reliever.
  18. Great article. The obvious solution is to move Milone to the pen. That takes advantage of his great splits going through the order the first time.
  19. Umm, the guy is starting for literally the third game of his career, and the biggest question mark for relief pitchers who transition to starters is obviously whether they can maintain their velocity later into games, so yeah, throwing 94 on his 93rd pitch is a BFD. The rest of his line wasn't great, but he recovered from a bad start, an indication (albeit just one data point) of having the mental fortitude to be a starting pitcher. And again, I'm not sure if you fully grasp the importance of this key point, but this was the THIRD START of his career. He now has a 3.60 ERA with 17 Ks and 7BBs in 15 innings. Not bad for a guy who just turned 22 in his first full year of professional ball (at high A) transitioning from a reliever to starter.
  20. Oh, hello there Alex Meyer: http://www.milb.com/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2016_04_15_rocaaa_bufaaa_1&mode=gameday So far 6 Ks, 0 BBs, 2 Hs, 0 Rs in 5 innings. 42 strikes, 22 balls. UPDATE; 8 KS, 0 BBs, 3 Hs, 0Rs in 6 innings. 57 strikes, 30 balls. Probably done for the day this early in the season. But man, talk about putting yourself back on the map.
  21. Fangraphs actually ranked him pretty high at 12. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/evaluating-the-2016-prospects-minnesota-twins/ But that is the only place I've seen him anywhere near that high. This is what Fangraphs said about Wade: To mean that report just screams sleeper. The makeup, the defense, the BB/K rate.
