  1. If there was a younger player, I'd be with you. But I just don't know who that is with this group and this FO. OTOH, they still have Lopez, Ryan, Ober and maybe Able next year.....
  2. Apparently I was wrong that they'd not do much today!
  3. They aren't winning this year, and they traded an expiring contract. That makes sense.
  4. This is what Fangraphs wrote last year about Mendez: Mendez came over from Milwaukee along with Robert Moore. He had an exciting contact and frame projection combo as a very young prospect, but he’s stiffened up as he’s matured and I’ve grown less confident that he’ll hit.
  5. I'm done with Larnach, and Bader can field, and no one else is likely ready unless they push GG, which they won't.
  6. Man, Fangraphs really doesn't like the targets so far as much as others, Mendez isn't even an honorable mention for them as a prospect for Philly....
  7. I'd much rather see Gonzalez this year than Kiersey....Or Martin or ERod if ever healthy. I hope they bring Bader back next year, though I think that is not likely.
  8. I'm at the following space: I like both prospects. I don't like the trade given where the TWins are right now competively. I don't like all the risk taken on. I would have wanted one more prospect (a good one) back to mitigate more of the risk. I'm 100% certain salary played a huge role in this decision.
  9. The A's included another pitcher, the A's pitcher has 2 more years of control, and costs a lot less in salary. All those things really change the equation here.
  10. Agreed. They moved Varland and Jax only after multiple years of clarity they weren't starters.
  11. I'd probably put him 7th or so, but the risk seems high to me right now. (not Tait level risk, as I think Abel can be a legit RP if he can't be a starter, though this FO waits A LONG TIME to make that transition.....). He's got some really good pitches, but that won't matter if they can't fix the control. I do like they went for ceiling over floor here, that's nice. But I'm not super confident right now.
  12. The A's included another pitcher in the deal.....this isn't one pitcher for one prospect or two. The A's RP has 2 more years of control, and costs A LOT less in salary for the next couple years.
  13. I agree his upside is higher, but so is the risk. I like getting Abel as part of the deal.
  14. I don't rank players..... But I read the rankings. Abel had dropped. By people that do this for a living. I'm guessing it's command and control. I'm not sure how arguing with me about those rankings does much? I'm just posting what others are saying.
  15. Not by the rankings. They've been middle of the pack since Ryan left. Mostly driven by lots of depth of good prospects, not great ones. Consolidating decent to good prospects into one good player with control would have been a good idea....
  16. I wouldn't include another player to shed salary. I might eat some, bit not fifty percent. To be clear, I do this because they aren't winning with this core, and signing and, old, guys to full in holes. I want them to go young..... I think CC is still capable of being really good. So there is risk here for sure... I also think the owners pocket the money....
  17. I didn't think the As did any better than Minnesota. Maybe worse even.
  18. If they get anything at all, it would be a win. He's very highly paid, and the goal is to shed the salary, nothing more.
  19. They aren't lowering ticket prices...... So if you decrease payroll, the money goes to owners. I'm not sure what you realistically expect.
  20. On some sites he's not even in the top 100... Or close to top five catcher prospect. For some reason people are ignoring that. On others he is! . The issue I have with the trade is that the twins are taking all the risk, and the reward doesn't help in the next two years while they have Ryan and Lopez. I'm not giving up on Abel, but again, he's lost a ton of prospect shine in the last year. It might be a good trade in a few years, but it does nothing to fix their biggest issues for the next three or four.
  21. There is another pitcher in the deal, and Miller has two more years of control, and costs a lot less in salary.. I'm not sure how comparable the deals are.
  22. There is also another pitcher besides Miller in the deal.
  23. Agreed! I think stuff will happen, but I won't be shocked if it doesn't.
