  1. I gotta admit, I didn't know AJ hit that well last year.....I'd certainly go that route right now.
  2. You could sub "free agent" for catcher there......every player has flaws. The job of the FO is to figure out how to put the best combination of flawed players together to win games. I would hope that they compare the catching options to each other, not some platonic catcher that largely does not exist.
  3. 17 wasted seconds. Ugh. And, they find a way to lose. Bummer
  4. Dozier and Plouffe had options. The Twins were bad when they were struggling. There were no other in house options. It is a very different time for this team next year than four years ago.
  5. All fair, I just don't see him as best for any role for this team, compared to other options (based on the players they have now, things can change).
  6. and he plays where in the OF next year? Rosario, Hicks, Arcia, Buxton, Santana OR Rosario, Hicks, Arcia, Santana (with Buxton up later) OR Rosario, Hicks, Arcia, FA placeholder while waiting for Buxton, Santana Kepler does what after July while Santana is the 4th or 5th OF?
  7. How does he prove anything playing maybe 1 game a week? I'm trying to be super practical here. It's hard to see how he "proves" anything if he is lucky to get 4 ABs a week. It isn't the end of the world if he's the utility guy, but I don't see what he's good at. As Parker points out, Polanco is no gold glove SS.....but which one would you rather PH with?
  8. I think the reports we got on his minor league defense were not all that good. I'm more worried about his defense as a utility guy than his offense. What exactly would you see his role as, and are you really sure there aren't better options by May or June already in the system? How does Santana get better next year if he plays almost never? do you trust Molitor not to play him a lot, even if he continues to be bad? And, of course all this changes if they make other moves, but we can only act on what we know right now....right now, I'd rather have Polanco. So you don't think having Santana up here makes it less likely Polanco is up here?
  9. They weren't competitive when they gave Plouffe time, they didn't have more than 5 better options in the OF and INF at the time, and Plouffe wasn't out of options at the time. The context of the TEAM is not the same. If they were not going to be good next year, and they didn't have a plethora of better candidates, sure, keep him up here. but should Polanco really be blocked by Santana? Or any of the actual OFers in the minors?
  10. You joke, but I'd rather have Punto on the bench than Santana. He had actual defensive POSITVE value at multiple positions.
  11. And his defense? shouldn't the utility fielder be able to field?
  12. Sure, he can stand in a lot of positions, but he was the WORST fielding SS last year. In ALL of baseball. Have we already forgotten the adventures on defense in the OF? He's a great athlete. That does not make him a good MLB player.
  13. He had negative value on the team last year, trading him for nothing would have made them better last year. There is little in his minor league career to indicate that will dramatically change, is there? Why are we worried about losing Danny Santana, when you have: Buxton, Rosario, Hicks, Arcia, Kepler Escobar, Dozier, Polanco, (even Nunez), Gordon, and some other guys in AA or even AAA that could be utility guys Where does Danny Santana fit in in HELPING this team win next year? Or are we punting next year also?
  14. Good point on Jay likely taking longer, seems so obvious when you type it up. As for Gausman, if they'd stop moving him back and forth on the rubber, and stop telling him not to use his best pitch (sound familiar?), he'd be better, I think. Some teams are good at things (Cardinals somehow turning "meh" hitters into machines at the MLB level), and some are bad at things (Orioles and pitchers, imo). I'm not alone on these thoughts on the O's.....If they O's would sell low on Kevin, I'd be all over that.
  15. He's not a SS, imo, and sending him to a team that will put him back in the OF is the right thing to do. There isn't room for him on this roster next year, and he's out of options. He should be traded. But, I'd guess they keep him on the roster because they are afraid to lose him.....just like they kept Aaron Thompson on the 40 man.
  16. I'd love to see Kepler up in April, but it's not going to happen. As for Jay, he's a college junior, he should move relatively quickly to the majors, if he's worthy of a top 10 pick....think Garza path. Still not sure how I feel about the pick, but we'll see. Gordon looks like a keeper.
  17. I love him as a person and a player.....but 34 year old role players that play the same position as the one player you can't move? Not a fan of the idea. I wouldn't kill them for it, I just wouldn't do it.
  18. Molitor thinks Danny Santana is a MLB hitter and SS......so I'll take that opinion with a grain of salt.
  19. I like this part of the list for its "they could be so AWESOME, or maybe no" aspects. I do think Polanco will be a 2B for someone in the majors, for multiple years. I do think Burdi will succeed in the majors for some years. Stewart? No idea. Gonsalves has a chance to be good, or maybe not. ABWIII......lots of virtual ink has been spilled on him. If he could just learn to walk.....
  20. That interview, man, that was touching/emotional/jarring. The young men that got to follow him were probably very luck to do so. You can hear why his coaches stayed with him every step.
  21. Ya, I don't see any near term future where universities become fixated on being universities, but a guy can dream..... And, it really is sad news about Kill. I may not have believed he could take them to the next level, but he sure seems like a genuinely good guy.
  22. Our opinions aren't problems for the Twins or their fans, the Twins not developing pitchers is, however, a problem for the Twins and their fans. ANY ONE of us could have traded Span for a MILB pitcher. The Twins need to be judged on how well they made that trade, because anyone can follow the process of trading for prospects, but successful teams pick the RIGHT prospects. This delta between following a process, and doing so successfully, seems to be a point of some confusion on these boards. I can follow the process for trying to hit a baseball (as could Drew Butera), doesn't mean it should be my job.
  23. Ready for blasphemy? I would love the u to get out of athletics, and run this place like schools in the rest of the world.
