    Those are three elite prospects.....as Seth said, those aren't the guys that get blocked by mediocrity. And, Buxton was up because of injuries, and Kepler wasn't really up, was he? We have no idea why Berrios was not up, instead of May making a spot start. But, again, you are talking about a top 20 prospect....... Guys blocked by mediocrity are the RP and 4th OF and DH and SP types that have upside, but who are not elite. I don't think we are having the same conversation here.

    AA has a much lower percentage of AAA/AAAA/MLB players. It has some, some elite guys, but most lineups have 2-3 guys. But, facing a AAA lineup has much fewer weaknesses and is a much better test of a pitcher's ability. I read here all the time it doesn't matter, and yet, the Twins and most other teams actually do promote guys to AAA before sending them to the majors. It's a super convenient argument.....doesn't matter that they are in AA, they can always promote them from there.....and also, can't promote him, because he's not even been in AAA yet. The same people say those things all the time here. AAA matters, no matter what people here keep typing.

    I just don't want anyone in AA that should be in AAA, because some random guy that is older gets the spot. That's my main concern with any of these signings. If Kepler is in AA to start, I'll be very disappointed. If any of the young RP that are supposedly going to be up this year are in AA to start, I'll be somewhat disappointed.

    Half the players who were better than Suzuki last year switched teams after Suzuki did.....so, ya, catchers are available every year.

    I have been opposed to the strategy, because it is not the path that most MLB RP follow. So far, it has produced a couple months of 1 pitcher, in a mutli year strategy. The other reason I'm opposed is that once the RP get here, the Twins try to change everything that made them good in college, and try to make them starters, and then they sit in the minors for multiple years (increasing the likelihood they get injured before ever pitching in the majors). it is 100% clear that some of these guys would never be starters, yet they kept trying to make them starters. Also, weren't a couple of them hurt in college, heck I think one had already had surgery. Until they trust the young guys, and what made them successful, and let them come to MN, it is a failed strategy.

    But what is "holding his spot", #4 level starter? Or better than you think Berrios will be? Because those are two different things.....

    Ah, got it. I agree......the opinion is wrong, I have no issue with the trade, other than they are aiming low again. But, sometimes that's the only target available I guess.

    Opening day roster is the roster for 6 weeks or so....how many games do inferior SP start in 6 weeks? Yes, depth is important, but the issue is that the old guys w/o options aren't very good, and the young guys might be quite good. I'd rather have less depth, and quality, than mediocre starters, with quality sitting in AAA adding no value to the MLB roster. When do Berrios and Duffey come up if no one is hurt for long, and the other two are "adequate" but not good? Even if someone is hurt for a week, the guy that comes up is sent right back down in your scenario, right? The team you's listed looks pretty "meh" to me. One elite player, 4 years into a rebuild (who was already in they system). one. One very good player at 2B (who was already in the system). No great SP, no great RP.

    How is Sano being jerked around? By maybe moving to the OF? Position changes happen all the time, even with elite players.

    You really think they'll have 2 rookies in the bullpen to start the year? And why wasn't Rogers up last year, if he's ready this year?

    Every FA is overpaid......if you wan't overpay, you won't play. That will greatly constrict your ability to improve your team.

    No RP they sign is going to stop them signing those guys you list. That's a super big exaggeration. NONE of them need to be signed in the next 5 years, let alone a few "extra" million going to a RP for 2-3 years making any difference. That's not much of an argument at all. There are other good arguments..... If the plan is to really go with youth, I'm ok with that. But, I have a question: Now, Rogers didn't come up in September....how is he magically ready now? None of those guys came up in September, what will have changed between then and April to make them ready? If they didn't think they were ready then, why would they think they are ready now.

    I don't have an issue with the trade. I would have liked to aim higher, but I can understand why they didn't.

    If Ryan thinks they are one LH RP away from being awesome......well, we will likely disagree on that I think.

    Except there is not a scarcity of resources for you. There are only so many good RP on the planet. Every one of them that moves to a new team this off season, is one less the Twins have to choose from. As for the last sentence.......name the failed starter other than Perkins the Twins have converted in the last decade to really good RP. This team was a .500 team last year, that had more good luck than bad luck in producing outcomes. Not adding talent to that team (and if you are Torii believer, losing talent) is unlikely to make this a WS contender.

    As pointed out above.....they still have the #18 overall prospect from that trade. If he's a legit starting SS for years, it isn't even close to the top 25 worst deals ever.
