  1. Why bother developing RP if you are only going to give shots to washouts? Give the young hard throwers a chance.
  2. No way. I don't get the dislike for Turner and Garver. They are good prospects. He is a good prospect, but I doubt he is likely as good add the other two. They have already been good against much better competition. Good pick, though.
  3. Every thread this is asked. In every thread I say that KLAW and others that have worked in a FO say this is not a good strategy, and not good for a career, since you may not be the one making the choice in a year.....
  4. Nothing prevents a team from drafting a guy.....even if he says he wants more money than they can pay. And no, there are no rules against this.
  5. Looking forward to seeing what Wade does when he moves up after June. Nice list. Thanks Seth.
  6. He is 29 and under control for a few years. Zero reason to extend him. None. I have no idea who he is now, or the next two years, let's hope he is good.
  7. I have no doubt about that. But given he throws one inning every three days or so....It will remain a tiny sample all year. So, sample size arguments don't hold a ton of water in this case
  8. Wouldn't it make sense to get those nerves out of the way in a lost season?
  9. I didn't say I'd do it. But clearly many choose that route. I would take the money for sure.
  10. Some people want to go to college? It is an awesome time. Probably the best time of your life in many ways.
  11. Btw, add Swihart to the list of out of position players that may be out for the year......I think maybe teams should stop putting guys that have no real experience out there in the OF.....
  12. Doesn't make it right or wrong.....we aren't in control of the Twins' future.
  13. And, the Fangraphs article is up: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/theory-and-implementation-with-byron-buxton/
  14. It cost them winning the WS, isn't that the goal? Or, is coasting to 85 wins and no playoff victories the goal?
  15. They have switched. The biggest difference in approach was the finish. TR never dealt prospects like Wil Myers (top 5-10 prospect in the game) for big time players, and never put a bundle of prospects together for a guy like Cueto. Ever. That remains my biggest complaint, they never finished. It's fascinating how the FO defenders talk about build thru the draft is the right way, but also defend the starting rotation being 80% guys they did not draft (at the start of the year). The issue, imo, remains the same. Not going big. Three mediocre SP =/= one great SP. Trading a bad OF for a bad catcher does not fix catching. yes, patience is needed. No argument. What we can't seem to agree on is any kind of timetable at all. Forever is too long to wait, 2 years are too few......other than that, there seems to be massive disagreement on how long (and whether or not it should ever be this bad this long).
  16. then I misunderstood your post. I thought you were pretty much saying to punt it...... It's a hard call, really, in your scenario. Lots of guys choose to go to college, for whatever reasons. Economically and for the good of their arms, pitchers should pretty much take the money. Colleges are notorious for not caring about the health of their players, and 2MM today is worth a lot more than MAYBE 3-5MM in 3 years. But, there are other reasons to go to college vs going to the pros. I don't know what I'd do if I was a team, and the player I wanted said they'd not sign with my team. Very difficult call.
  17. You can't punt a pick. What if 5-10 of the top players for next year get hurt, or just plain are bad? In theory, it might work. In practice, I can't find a person on the web that used to work in a FO that has said this is a good idea.
  18. Not a fan of tall pitchers. Terrible track record. I do suspect it is one of these players.
  19. It's only 4-5 years into the rebuild. What do you expect?
